In this video I'll show you how I clean my RC's after getting them covered in mud!
When cleaning your RC, take extra care to protect your electronics, especially if they're not waterproof.

Brilliant 👍 what a chore that must have been to go get it so muddy to show us how you clean it 😂. Got a very similar mini blower and they are amazing for at the house. I am lucky enough to have a compressor at workshop but having that blower is so much handier to do at home👍

@@DoURC getting muddy is a tough life but someone's got to do it 😂. Especially the bearings. I went through a set in ftx Apache and mjx 16208 in couple of months of light use and used gt85 after clean but since the little blower I have had no rusted solid bearings in any of the rigs I have whether it be crawlers, bashers etc without gt85( the ones that get used constantly ) but will also use gt85 after blower if putting a rig away for a bit.

@DaddyDaughterRC-sw2zb Yeah proper drying definitely makes a difference. 👍 The biggest way I've found to save money proper mudding is going brushless. In my TRX4 I was going through brushed motors monthly! I fitted a brand new holmes hobbies crawlmaster think it was, broke it in 20 mins! 🤣🤦 This brushless HW Fusion has been through way worse and still all good. 👍😁

@@DoURC I agree totally. Both our FTX Gladius have the HW Fusion 1800 now and conformal coating on the switch.

U have a lot of confidence to do washing in your rc in&out. One day try to have one in a mud pit, good luck👍

It goes through a lot worse in the mud and water tbh, so a little wash with a hose is like a holiday for it! 🤣😁

Nice! Much needed video, glad to know you do it the way I do it, without the pre-poodle and pre-river treatment ;) but the hosing, we are spot on. A normal hose is great, nothing close to high pressure washing as it can get into parts that don't like water. Last but not least, WD-40 is "water dispersal" and works great for pushing water away when it reached inside of places that should not get wet. This is much better than not cleaning it in fear that water might damage the RC. I got an Axial Wraith a week ago and it had super dry AND glued-in track dirt, literally the fine sand you find on buggy tracks (the thing saw some racing for 10 years...) and it became almost part of the chassis... I do not mind a dirty RC but this was beyond my threshold. Old dirt had become so structural that "MY" dirt would have just piled on top of it. Unacceptable, I had to do it a complete service... which meant completely disassembling the Yeti to single parts... insane... 3 days of work but now it's in shape. Also found out it was RWD because the front shaft pin was not there... intentional? Not sure. Buying used RCs is awesome. The deal was great, I cannot complain.

Thanks very much 👍 Yeah, obviously if your RC isn't waterproof then you're risking it doing mud or water runs anyway. Also people need to be aware no matter how much you clean and dry it, something will break sooner or later, as bearings etc don't last forever and unless you're stripping it down, all the bearings inside will still be wet. The GT85 stuff I think is better than WD-40 at water dispersal, it's what people use on bike chains etc. But I just didn't like the fact I could see it coming off in the water etc so stopped using it. 👍 Yeah I totally agree, not cleaning it can be far worse long term. It's just about being sensible, if you're worried, then don't get it wet and dirty in the first place. 👍

@@DoURCwell said, I totally agree. The cleaning is for US the people to avoid taking home something that is a mud ball (=wives won't allow it ;)). Repair and upgrades are part of the fun, it's ought to happen that something will fail eventually, it's physics. But in the meantime.... gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas.

@reezoshideout 🤣 Totally agree. If I put it that muddy into my wife's car I'd have bigger fish to fry! 🤣😬 Definitely, imo maintenance is worth it to have the fun. It's like having a fast car but not driving it fast, as it uses loads of fuel, eats brake pads and tyres! All part of the experience! 🤣👍😁

I love it i just put a power wash like 1000 psi that is powerful hose i put like 1 feet away from my rc car but if my rc car was waterproof its good.

Thanks very much 👍 Yeah, obviously if your RC isn't waterproof you wouldn't get it this wet and muddy in the first place. 🤣👍 I've found the main thing is you don't want water sitting on your electronics for a long time, so blowing the water off really helps, or you could just leave it upside down after each run to dry. 👍

Ha😄 Love the kicking the water at it part! We don't "do" mud like you - (does anyone?😄) but I clean ours in much the same way. I do have a compressor, so I use that on about 30 psi. I also use the air line to clean away dust etc, and to blow though the motor (stock brushed item) periodically. Your rig looks good though, especially considering what it goes through!😄 But, what's up with that central skid plate?😳😄

🤣 I try to get it as clean as possible before putting it in the boot of my wife's car. 😬 Yeah air compressor would be the best bet, but I do like this little GT Power blower. 🤣 Yeah the skid plate has seen better days. 😬

Very cool demo. I have a vacuum/blower combo thing that works great for this and around the house, but the one you use here has a much better blower function. Added to the list! ☑

Thanks very much 👍 Yeah any type of blower should work, the more powerful or concentrated the air the better, especially for around the esc and screws and links etc. 👍

I’ve added the bearing kit to my TRX4M and the FCX18 LC80 comes with bearings. It’s been suggested that I avoid water with bearings, is that a concern on these trucks?

Water will destroy bearings over time. If you use rubber sealed bearings there'll last a bit longer. Imo bearings are a service item though, it just depends how you want to use your rig. My bearings still last 6 to 12 months depending on usage. 👍

Can you get the FCX18 LC80 wet like the TRX4

Kind of, its not really waterproof like the TRX4. Main issue I've found on the LC80 is the power switch, as once it gets wet it stops working. I deleted the power switch on mine, so it powers on when you connect the battery like the TRX4M does. 👍

This washing method is not recommended. Use isopropyl alcohol and then a strong blower or use contact cleaner spray and then a blower.

Then don't go mudding with it in the first place. 👍 You can still wash your RC if it's not waterproof, but you need to avoid the electronics and dry it well. 👍
