Thanks so much for sharing your journey. I’m approaching my 1 year cancerversy. I’ve related to so many things you’ve said!! It helps hearing from someone that’s walked this road and can help guide those of us coming behind you 💗

For me, it was subsequent surgery and not the cancer that caused my hair loss. My carcinoma was surgically removed along with all my inguinal lymph nodes (just in case, but had not spread) and it seemed at the time, the only side effects after the surgery were both legs tended to stay quite swollen with lymphoedema. However, a couple of years after, I had to have several knee surgeries which didn't go so well (probably due to lack of lower body lymph nodes) with quite a lot of infection and over a month in hospital. Afterwards, I noticed my quite thick hair started getting thinner. Didn't fall out in clumps, just gradually seemed quite fine and "see-through" on the top. It has been that way ever since, about 10 years and never grew back thicker. But if that's all, I thank goodness it wasn't any worse. God bless you for sharing this with us and praying for you and all the commenters here that your health is stable and your future bright!

Welcome back! Thank you for your inspiring videos. I was diagnosed with HR-/PR-/HER2+ in December... itty bitty little tumor (2 cm). I don't have BRCA but I do have another breast cancer causing gene. I finished 6 rounds of TCHP 12 weeks ago and now just HP for a total of 18 rounds. Luckily the HP doesn't cause hair loss so it's growing back. I had a double mastectomy June 11th (OUTPATIENT!!) and two lymph nodes all of which were cancer free (YAY!). I have another surgery to replace my expanders hopefully in October. And of course... all this amid the CV-19 pandemic.

Congratulations. You are doing so well. Quite fast your surgeries . How often do you do your expansions ? Me every month. I see some women go once per week. I hope to have my exchange surgery by the end of this yeat.

@@chemt4684 I had two fills total, two weeks post surgery and two weeks later. I'm having them swapped out for permanent implants on Sep. 17th. Sounds like a pretty straight-forward procedure.

Thank you for the update sweetie! Your hair is gorgeous like you. My journey has just started, stage 2B triple negative breast cancer here just diagnosed Nov 5, 2020. Starting chemo dec 9, 2020 doing the same you did and doing genetic testing soon but double mastectomy is planned after chemo and I hope and pray they can save skin and my nipples as well for me to have implants. Thank you so much for doing these videos because it helped me not be in the dark to all of this new stuff but I’m learning as I go plus you have helped so much too.

Hi Nikki. Great you posted a new video. Been following your journey. I am 48 and now 1 yr after my last chemo. 7 months ago I had my healthy ovaries and f. tubes removed. Only tiny 3 scars. Almost invisible. But I am still doing my secondary breast reconstruction. Filing my expender. My boob almost normal size, I am so happy. When filling finished, then exchange surgery. Love your reconstruction. Looks like nothing has happened. The best of luck. Xxx

You are awesome and so strong, thank you for sharing your journey with us. I have been following you for a while. Also celebrated my one year cancerversary and just had my Total hysterectomy (preventative surgery) on Thursday, bounced back fairly quickly . But you really scared me with the reconstruction description as I had a lumpectomy and was considering double Mastectomy because I am also BRCA2. You have been unknowingly guiding me through the process and I am grateful for you! Try Watermans Shampoo and Conditioner. It is expensive but helps with regrowth.Best wishes and health! And praying that the lump is benign 🙏🏾💐🤍💜

Don’t be put off by the double mastectomy - even tho it was a long recovery, the reduction in fear of another cancer has made it 100% worth it! Plus I have a great pair of boobs, instead of killer tits 🤣😘 how are you coping with the hysterectomy. My doctor has advised an oopherectomy in about 8 years time. Even that scares me. Brca - the gift that just keeps giving 🙄🙄🙂

Nikki! So great to see you back and love this video. Your hair is beautiful! I am now just over a year post-chemo for my TNBC. I rushed too quick to dye it (was a horrible mousy colour) and probably need to lay off the dye to let me hair establish itself again. Thank you for the video, you are looking amazing and best of luck with the scan.

I'm going through telogen effluvium after being hospitalized and a lot of weight and blood loss. I wish my hair looked as good as yours. I've lossed about 70 percent of my hair, and I'm female as well. It's very depressing. I had such beautiful hair that people would tell me in line at the store. Now I have huge bald spots on top. I'm going to have to start wearing it back to cover the bald spots, which will pull on my hair more. I feel how you feel, and I'm sorry to any woman this happens to. It makes you feel ugly.

I too was diagnosed with breast cancer August of 2017. I had both invasive lobular carcinoma (primary tumor) and invasive mammary (ductal) carcinoma (microcalcifications were a mix) and I too had a double mastectomy. I was 36. Since you did the one and done surgery, did you too have the allergen implants that were recalled? That’s what I had. Actually having an ultrasound on Tuesday to check for rupture due to some symptoms and a few lumps in my non cancer breast. If you did get the recalled implants, did you get them removed? Thank you for sharing your story ❤️❤️❤️

Hi hun. Sorry for the late reply - I don’t have time to check this with a toddler 🤦🏻‍♀️ I didn’t have the recalled implants as far as I know. However, they do think I have the beginnings of capsular contracture so I may well have to have them replaced. I hope you are still cancer free 💕💕💕

Hello 😃 just wondering why didn’t cold cap during treatment, my wife cold capped during treatment I helped her on every treatment she had really good results THANK GOD🙏 she going in for surgery for a lumpectomy next week then radiation then Tamoxifen. It’s been tough but I’ve been there every step of the way holding her hand she’s a fighter 💪 can I ask you what is the difference between a lumpectomy and a mastectomy when it comes to preventing it from coming back?
@gettingwiggywithit3500
@gettingwiggywithit3500 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. I wasn't given the option of a cold cap at the hospital - the hospital only had one and it was in use during my first treatment, so i chose not to and embraced the bald look. I don't think there is much difference as long as there are "clean margins" (area cut around the tumour). I was offered a double mastectomy because I carry the BRCA1 genetic mutation, which meant I had an 85% chance of getting another primary breast cancer, but having the double mastectomy DID NOT reduce my chance of secondary spread. Due to my cancer type (triple negative) I have a 25% chance of secondary spread within 5 years... after that it is unlikely to spread. But i know for different cancers these statistics are different, so best talking to your wifes doctors about the likelihood of secondary spread and timescales.

#Gettingwiggywithit I see, hospitals should really offer it more to patients it just sucks a they don’t God willing it gets better in the future. Well your hair looks beautiful now you look really good 😊 we had to rent the caps trough penguin cold caps and they were not cheap but it was worth it thank God! Hope all is well with you now like I said my wife goes in for surgery next week God willing everything goes good🙏

My oncologist wants me to have an oopherectomy (ovaries and Fallopian tubes) at some point before I’m 45. But our family has no instances of ovarian cancer (unlike BC with lots of cases of BC at very young ages) so I’m really not in any rush for that surgery. The temporary menopause I went into after chemo was enough to put me off rushing into surgical menopause. Hot flashes are no joke!!!!
