Here is how I finally figured out how to do my laundry successfully by myself!

Hi!!! I am bilateral amputee, hip, and left below the knee. I use forearm crutches but just recently started walking on my prosthetics independently. I love watching different ways to try things. The web site to my accident is Killen Generating Station collapse.

Excellent composition on your educational video. Showing your previous attempts, suggests problem solving to the viewer. The progression shows the viewer it takes several times to meet the challenge. In college when I was adapting Outdoor Ed activities for different disabilities, it helped to demonstrate my troubleshooting as I was teaching the activity to a participant. Sometimes, when one is frustrated with a disability it is easy to fall into the trap of "I must be dumb. They knew exactly how to do it." Cheers

Good afternoon, Cairn. A good idea, Cairn, is that you use a crutch instead of the two, it can help and also get easier. He would have one of his free hands to pull the cart or take the laundry basket to wash.

Unfortunately the one crutch is not a good idea. It can damage the nerves in my armpit. I was advised not to do this by many medical professionals. Plus I do not have a residual limb to alleviate some of the pressure by putting it on the handle of the crutch. Thank you anyway though 💐

Put it in a mesh bag. Get one of those round sleds... then use a strap, rope, etc to tie over the shoulder, or ankle or crutch perhaps. Those sleds are domed and so the slide around on anything with ease. ALso, if you had a medium dog, I could see them pulling it.

I would have kept the wheelchair idea and secured the basket to the chair with a long bungee cord.

My wife (a leg amputee, too) told me yesterday to fold and put away the pram, cause our youngest child is four years old. May be we should rethink that ...

Use a trolley with bungie courts.or use bougie courts on the wheelchair

Nice tries! Nice idea finally! However you can use trolley directly as well with out using crutches or a single crutch, use the trolley like a walker :)

Thank you for your comment! Actually if I were to do that I would have to hop a lot and that's tiring and straining on my body :( And theres a risk of having it fall towards me and we both go down haha

That is a fantastic idea! But I do not think that would be a good idea for me. I'm lightweight and have a bad back 😓 great suggestion though!!

Hello Cairn, the first thing I want to say is how good they look in their vintage clothes. I love your videos. I can only use one arm and have a laundry basket with two handles that I can carry with one hand. Can you walk with just one crutch so that you have the other free for such a basket?

It isnt good for me to walk with one crutch it will damage my armpits nerves. Thanks for your compliment I really enjoy the fashion of the 40s and 50s. Why can you only use one arm?

@@CairnAtkinsonLeanonMe This vintage fashion is excellent for you, also with your perfect makeup. My shoulder is the result of an untreated, dislocated shoulder as a young athlete. Was narrowed down again, but not X-rayed. So a hairline crack in the capsule was overlooked. This caused cartilage to grow so that the bones rub against each other, which is extremely painful. Grinding off this mass would bring nothing, as this would come again. An artificial joint also harbors too many risks in my situation.

@@CairnAtkinsonLeanonMe Thank you. But with me there is nothing more to be done. Stiffening of the joint is already being considered. Before I have this done, I read my arm and shoulder amputation. I can't take this pain anymore.

I am so sorry it has to come to amputation. You will adjust and prevail! And you may have better quality of life without that pain. There are many arm amputees on KZfaq, have you reached out? Even Facebook has support groups as well. Hang in there 🙏

Good idea but I am satisfied with the wheeled basket. It rolls while I walk unlike how it would be with the wheelchair. Thanks for your suggestion!

Knee is great! Just was angry for an evening, I got lucky ! Other parts hurt and are sore but it's okay!
