Great review I love hearing from owners that have put some miles on their bikes much more valuable than a test ride review. Thanks! I am considering one of these for my next bike. As a side note I have a Ducati with 20,000 miles that has had zero issues.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! If you are considering one, I would highly recommend one. I just love my nine t. Best bike I've owned. As for the Ducati, I haven't had much problems with my Ducati. Just a little hiccup here and there. Glad to hear your Duc is behaving :)

I have no BMW bike experience. I've only owned Japanese machines. I have owned 5 BMW cars. One after the other. Not one issue arose in 9 to 10 yrs of ownership. That's 5 different model cars. I didn't need to use the warranty on any. No breakdowns, nothing. My Honda bikes have been the most reliable. My 98 VFR 800fi and my 2009 Fireblade were bulletproof. Again no issues at all. Having said that I would happily buy any BMW bike. Love where you live and the lifestyle you have over there Boris. Enjoying your vlogs man. Ride safe.

hey Boris, just a quick note from a long term R series lovers. My last R bike was a 2009 R1200R with the same engine you have. Great engines! But my R1200R had that silly looking little windshield up over the headlight. I was very shocked at how effective that was. Took all of the wind blast off the chest even at high speed, and just gave me a light breeze on my face. I just got back recently from almost 6 years in Germany, and I was going to buy the R nine T or nine T pure. But ran across a killer deal on a barely used 2016 1200R with all options. I couldn't pass it up. But you made mention of the wind blast at high speeds, (illegal high speed I think you put it lol). One of the things I had in mind if I got one, was there are several companies now that make a R90S cafe style fairing for them. Only slightly more windshield than I had on my 2009 1200R. I have seen one bike over in Germany that had one on it, and it looked awesome! When I spoke to the guy, he basically said the same thing about it. All the wind blast gone, and just a light breeze on the face. Might be something you want to look in to. Mounts on the fork tubes and headlight bracket. I've seen them in a very high dollar carbon fiber, and low dollar polycarbonate. If I did it, I would go with the polycarbonate in a gloss black. But that's just me. The cutouts on the side of the fairing are high enough that you don't have to lower your bars. Anyway. Good video. Hope to hear more about the adventures on your BMW. Bob back home in Nevada

Hey Boris, great review and I couldn't agree more with your overall praise of this bike. I just put a full set of Ohlins suspension (cartridges front, shock rear) on mine this week and I can happily and highly recommend you consider this before going with an aftermarket exhaust. The difference is immediately noticeable. If nothing else, replace the rear shock first as imo the ome rear is very stiff and you'll immediately notice a more plusher ride. Happy trails and keep the shiny side up!
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
kavik27 Good bit of advice! Thanks! I'll look into it. I feel if I ride a nine T with Ohlins, I might cave and get a new rear shock and eventually the front cartridges.

Hi Boris, first of, let me congratulate you for this nice and useful review. Then the question: I recently test-drived a 9T (scrambler) and found that there was a LOT of vibrations in the handle bar at certain speeds (above +- 75mph). Do you have the same feeling? I intend to buy a 9T classic (like yours), and it's the same motor. So I feel a little bit concerned about this. For everything else, the ride was a pure pleasure :) Thanks
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Well, thank you very much :) There is some vibration, since it is a twin, but I feel like it's smooth at that speeds. Anything over 85 mph for a long time can make your feet tingly haha! If you rode the scrambler and it had the off-road tires, that may be the case. Try riding the classic Nine T and see if there is a difference. I know that the classic Nine T has better suspension and brakes

Working with my local BMW dealer on a 2017 RnineT Pure that was a demo bike. 1500 miles with full factory warranty for a killer price. I currently own a Yamaha FZ6 and have owned all Japanese bikes previous to that so I'm a little nervous about the cost of ownership and shorter service intervals compared to the FZ6 (26k valve check intervals!). Is that a legitimate concern? Do things like valve checks/adjustments, for example, cost an arm and a leg at the dealer? I simply have no experience with the boxer motor or the brand itself. Any insight you could provide me would be most appreciated. Subscribed.

She sure is pretty, and way better luck for you lol. What exhaust are you scoping out? I saw an aftermarket Akrapovic that tucks up right by the seat and shows the swing arm, looks sexy as hell. (I think it was a single muffler)
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
mitsu3kgto Definitely better than my previous pile... I'm looking at the Akrapović single muffler with the carbon tip. Cleans up that side and opens the wheel up more. The one that goes up to the seat, removes the rear foot pegs and I can't have passengers then :(

I tried to look it up but I couldn't find it on the news. I hope that they didn't die and they left the bike there for evidence. That's what usually happens when someone dies. You mentioned that one would need ABS, but since i bought a used Yamaha FZ07 in December without it i´m kinda worried now :D Im a beginner (its my first bike) and i will probably own it for a while so there is no way that i can buy another bike. I asked some people and some say its very important, whereas other say its not essential. So what are your thoughts on that topic? The lively way you talk, makes your videos very entertaining to watch :) keep it up. Also the nice weather...man, i wish i would live in a less rainy country.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Ruffy Puffer I have owned both bikes with and without ABS and I definitely prefer a bike with ABS. They saved me a few times so it's definitely a plus to have. I learned to ride without ABS when I first started so maybe a good thing so you can learn brake control.

+Curtis Pottorff Good question. The seat is not the most comfortable seat out there, but I’ve taken a few longer rides (3 hours or so) at a time and I haven’t had to complain too much. If you’re planning on doing super long trips on the Nine T, perhaps buy a comfort seat, but it’s pretty comfy from the factory, at least for me :)

love your bike and your video. I ride a 2014 monster 1200 and I'm at 20K miles on it. Only issue I've had so far was a leaking radiator @ 19K miles which McGraw extended warranty covered. Other than that it has been a very solid bike.

I have test rode 2017 and fell in love with it but my only concern was the tyres because they are not tubeless which means you cannot repair them on the road.What do you think??? Also the indicators are a bit small to see clearly but i kept look at them while riding because new 2017 indicators are so beautiful. I loved the exhaust sound, especially when it backfires when i let go the throttle. Brakes are great, especially rear brake suprised me, it may be the best one i have seen. Thanks for the video, drive safe.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
I'm not too concerned about the tubeless tires. So far, after 13,500 miles, I have had no issues with the tubes. Look on the bright side, if you DO get a flat, all you need to do is pull out the nail, replace the tube and you're good to go! Unlike a tubeless tire, you'd have to get a whole new tire. But thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoy the nine T. I know I love mine!
@8654ZuluFoxtrot5 жыл бұрын
I realize this is a 1 year old post....but....others will still be reading these comments just like I did. So, I've been riding MC's in SoCal since 1992 and I've had just 1 flat tire (which was on my police bike). I have close to 60k miles on my Yamaha FZ-09 and have had not a single flat tire. Long story short....unless you live is some really messed up area that has a crap ton of debris on the roads, I wouldn't worry too much about flat tires. This isn't a dirt bike or bicycle....it's a road bike.
@BorisOnBikes5 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. Avoid construction areas and after it rains, stay in the areas where cars tires are. I've had 1 flat in the course of 32,600 miles and it cost me about $40 for a new tube. Not a bad outcome.

When you did the valve check, how do you get the spark plug cover off without breaking it (like I just did on a camhead GS...derp). I don't mean the stick coil, but the plastic dust cover that is on top of the stick coil and and top of the valve cover.
@BorisOnBikes5 жыл бұрын
Very carefully. I did it very carefully. Lol just kidding. I let the dealership check the valves while it was under warranty. If they break it, they fix it!
@thereve5 жыл бұрын
Boris on Bikes lol well that’s one way to do it. The valve check is very easy on these, aside from that stupid cover. Free is free but when you’re freebies run out, basic maintenance is really simple on these. Just get some decent quality torx bits.

hi a question from holland. i'm getting rid of my completely customized harley rocker. looks really good but after finishing the rebuild of the bike and spending too much money on parts and labour my "needs" on a bike seem to have changed. yeah sure the bike looms great and is a real head turner but it doesn't give a me smooth ride, comfort and an easy to use and ride bike. So i went for a test drive with the r nine t pure (because the scrambler wasnt available). loved the way it feels and handles but hate how it looks. i really like the scrambler and the r nine t like you own. i've watches tons of videos on the scrambler and the original nine t. i went for a testdrive on the scrambler but i really didn't like the off road tires and the stearing is really different. the dealer said it couls be caused by the type of tire. im up to speed with the technical differnce between the r nine t ans te svrambler but i'm still make up my mind about which model to chose. on the scrambler i like the style and the bigger front wheel but the seat seems less comfortable and the tachometer and gear indicator are missing if you ad these you get to the price of an r nine t. but the seat of the r nine t and the stance are not how i like them. so this is becomig a long story. any advice on your side on the models? thanka in advance! like this vlog has been helpfull for me.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm sorry for the late reply, but it sounds to me like you already made up your mind. The Regular Nine T is such a great bike. It's smooth, quick, torquey, looks beautiful and sounds awesome. The Scrambler might have handled differently because of the larger front wheel and the tires as well. I'm extremely happy with my Nine T and I don't regret my decision one bit! Good luck and I hope you make a decision that will make you happy.

Boris on Bikes I have my sport classic that I bought from Copart with 13k miles. After I replaced a few damaged item on it I put about 5k miles in two month with zero issues. I know Ducati has a bad reputation on some of their models especially older ones but I am amazed at how trouble free my bike has been. That being said the RnineT was on my list of bikes to trade my 1978 BMW R80/7 which I loved. It's nice to see you enjoying you BMW, they are no doubt one of the most reliable and best packaged bikes out there. The price of admission is definitely worth every penny.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Ducati is a hit or miss. I have owned 4 Ducatis and 3 of them were not reliable at all. I currently have a Ducati 996 as a track bike and only thing that has gone wrong was the fuel line clips that attach to the gas tank got old and brittle after 17 years and cracked. I replaced the connections with aluminum ones and works like a charm right now. I'm overly happy with the BMW and did not expect this level of quality.
@TheTommyKay7 жыл бұрын
So reliability aside, would you say you are enjoying this bike more than the Veloce? Im asking because of all the bikes i have ridden in the past, BMers tend to be the most ''numb'' a lot of owners have told me that they feel kinda cut-off from the action.

TheTommyKay No idea what BMW bikes they rode but my MV felt so uneventful. I got bored of it the first month of ownership and all the issues made me hate riding it. My BMW is the total opposite. Even with my 50 minute commute to work, I am sad to get off and stop riding it.
@santo31203 жыл бұрын
Curious if you still your 2016 r nine t - how many miles on your bike now and how is the reliability? Any issues? Am asking because am looking to purchase a used one. Thanks.
@BorisOnBikes3 жыл бұрын
Hey, late reply but I still have it. Still love it. It has 58k miles currently. Still running strong, no issues at all, besides a cracked exhaust, but that was a faulty weld. Not bad for 58K miles. Also, the dealer only had to adjust the valves once in the whole time I've owned it. As long as you maintain it like recommended, the bike should be great.

That's a perfect bike, I love it !! Someday I'll buy it for real, it will be my next bike, but I have a question for you about the high of the sit and, how tall are you ? Hahaha thanks. (Weird question, I know).
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
ARBikes Not a weird question at all! I am 5'8" and I fit on it perfectly. I can flat foot at lights and ever when I stand up, I can get my butt off the seat slightly. It's not a tall bike at all.
@TRocksGarage7777 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way about the exhaust. I want the beauty of the single sided swingarm to be visible and undecided which exhaust to go with. Do I get the "S" pipe for the high mount or do I got with a short can like the Competition Werkes GP slipon? How do you feel about this?
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
The S pipe does away with the passenger foot pegs, so up to you if you ride passengers or not. Personally, I like the look of the high mounted exhaust. The Competition Werkes GP slip on, to me, doesn't go with the bike. Messes up the lines and the flow of the bike. True, it's shorter and exposes the wheel, but I'm not a big fan of it's looks :(
@TRocksGarage7777 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response. I already eliminated the rear subframe and have the hump on the back. I was undecided on the look of the CW slip on. Love the high mount but I think that the Akrapovic can is a little too long. I have the Tidy tail kit under the hump and with the high mount exhaust, the exhaust would extend past the hump looking a bit odd to me. From pictures I've seen it looks like it would extend 3 to 4 inches past the hump. Unless there is a shorter muffler on the market that I just don't know about. I will keep my eyes open.

Sounds like it looks pretty propper so far! Good luck on the exhaust search. I've also heard that Remus has nice exhausts with a carbon tip. ;)

Couldn't be more perfect. A fellow San Diegan, and reviewing the bike I've been researching. You mentioned your girl works at Cycle Gear. I went there a few days ago. And I went to the same BMW dealership you picked this bike up from, today. Haha. Drooled all over the different R Nine T variants and came back. Love naked bikes with a retro look. That narrows down my search quite a bit. This is the only one that comes close, besides some other scramblers etc. I'm seriously considering this bike. Is there anything I should look for, ask about, or keep in mind etc.? Subscribed. :D
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
+Binoy Nair Have you test ridden one yet?? If not, that was the deciding factor for me. I just love the bikes looks and the feel of everything. Best bike I've owned. And. Ow with the new 2017 models that have adjustable front suspension, it's even better than the 2016!! Do yourself a favor and just go ride it. (If you haven't already) Then tell me if you're in love or not. 😊

Boris on Bikes - Oh! I WILL test ride it. I was just shopping around yesterday. Went to Fun Bike Center next door first. Those Japanese bikes are great, but just don't have the look and feel I'm going for. And didn't wanna go all the way to GP Motorcycles on India St. during rush hour, cos I was initially gonna go look at the Ducati Monster, which I still might, over the weekend. But I just somehow felt connected to the R Nine T man. I kinda rode it vicariously through your video. Haha. It felt good. Most probably my next bike. Have you thought of doing any mods yet, considering how mod-friendly it is?
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
The Monster is a cool bike. My coworker had one for a few months and ended up trading it in for another bike. He just wasn't too happy with the 821. Still a great bike, just wasn't for him. I have thought about all the mods that I want to do to it, but I'm not very rich, so the small things I did already may have to do for now. Still plenty of things I'd like to do, but money is always the factor. Let me know what you think of the Nine T when you go try it out!

Boris on Bikes - I hear you about money being the factor. It always is. I definitely will let you know when I get it. Love your videos man. Cheers!!!

Hey Boris, how does the dry clutch feel vs. a wet clutch? Any problems with overheating in traffic or faster wear? Thanks.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Good question. It actually doesn't feel any different than a wet clutch. No issues at all. Only thing that is a bit different is the shaft drive instead of a chain, but you get used to it super quick.
@ssg444car7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I've read that the shaft drive gives more immediate torque.

I have the 2016 BMW R nineT Brushed Aluminium tank plus the single high Akrapovic exhaust with no baffle. Sounds great. I have issues with the foot pegs being in the way when stopped. Commuting everyday in Winter is ruining my bike tough - it's always looking messy and muddy. Yuk. I'm going to tour Southern England in the summer so I will post up some videos of mine then.

Thank you. I use it every single day as a commuter and it's great! It's comfortable, smooth twin engine, sounds amazing and gets great gas milage. Other than the small things that I mentioned that I experienced, the Nine T is my favorite bike I've ever owned!

hey man. im 23 soon and think its time to own my dream bike. im on the look out for an r nine t 2014 reg just outta warranty ( lower cost and i do a lot of maintenance myself). Also i have no aspiration to own one of these from new as , as far i can see, i dont see what can go wrong on this bike... no real electrics to give you gripe; a tried and test air cooled boxer ; shaft drive... as long as its well looked after i think this bike will last a long time(well probs only until e bikes take over). Anyway, my only potential gripe is that im an all year rider and am not familiar with how well the paint and finish on bmws hold up vs a UK winter . Loving your channel and your vids - i will be watching very closely to see what you can throw at your nine T
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
I wish that I can tell you how it is in the UK winter, but closest thing that I see to winter is a day of rain and 10°C weather. I have seen that quite a few people from the UK have the Nine T and they haven't complained about the finish going wrong. The BMW is a proper bike that is built with German precision, so I think that it will do alright in the UK. Also, here is a good forum to ask questions in. Many knowledgeable people all over the world here: www.ninetowners.com/

R ninet vs the new R1250R? To commute everyday what about the luggage? Side bags or top case for the ninet?Thanks in advance for your help
@BorisOnBikes5 жыл бұрын
I commute every day on my nine T. I do have a tail bag that works pretty well. On some camping trips, I custom mounted a pelican case to where the passenger seat goes and that worked very well! There are options for side cases if you want to go that route, or if you just want a bike that's already meant for luggage, the 1250 could be a better choice. Also, the nine T doesn't have cruise control or electronic adjustable suspension, so there's that also to keep in mind.
@raphael93075 жыл бұрын
Very nice and pleasing video ! I was just wondering how tall you are. I am a bit concerned about mine (6'1) and the low seat of the NineT...
@BorisOnBikes5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I am 5'8 and it fits me perfectly.
@peakrider48867 жыл бұрын
hey Boris. Can you or anyone else with a NineT tell me how they hold up to rain and crud? Because it's a naked bike is there any signs of corrosion on exposed parts and metal?
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Peakrider Good question! I've ridden in the rain a few times and hit up a few dirt/ mud patches and so far it's holding up very well. I did notice very little bit of corrosion on the brake lines where it connects to the master cylinder but just slight discoloration. I'll have to go ask the dealer about those issues. Everything else is holding up perfectly!

When I test rode one of these, it had a decent amount of handlebar vibration. By the end of our 30 minute ride, my hands were becoming a bit numb. Have you experienced anything like this? Supremely nice bike otherwise.
@BorisOnBikes6 жыл бұрын
It did vibrate quite a bit but I didn't feel the same numbness after my test ride. Might just have been certain rpms that vibrate quite a bit? I do expect some vibrations from a twin cylinder tho.
@progpogs6 жыл бұрын
Could be certain rpms, could be you are looser now since you are used to the bike? I'm sure being loose and bar ends would be enough, just deciding if I like it enough for that price tag. Thanks!
@BorisOnBikes6 жыл бұрын
It isn't too expensive, especially for a BMW branded bike. Also yes, keeping loose up top might be the trick!

Kristoe 0503 Exactly that. The simplest mod ever! Remove the screws, the top plate slips off, pull out the baffles, put plate back on, put screws back in and you're done!

I just bought a new (to me, anyway) last week. I really wanted an r9t, but when I took it for a test ride I realized I'm way too short for it (and pretty much all sportier bikes...). I ended up with a Bonneville Bobber. After a few days of being bummed about not being on an r9t I've realized that I'm really happy with it. Good for all you tall guys, but I need something shorter lol

Thanks for the review, can you comment on passenger comfort? I went looking for a leftover '16 but by the time I got to the dealer it was sold. They basically had the '17 version of your bike for $16 k...it was beautiful but dayumn, it's spensive.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
Yes! My girlfriend rides on the back and she loves it! Not all hunched over like a super sport bike, more relaxed and seat isn't too bad either! We tried a BMW GS1200 and she liked the comfort, but on the highway, she does get a lot of wind buffeting, whereas the Nine T, she gets none! They are pricy, but they are great bikes. I mean, I'm at 14k miles now and have had NO issues whatsoever!
@desmoface7 жыл бұрын
Excellent. $16K is approaching S1KR territory, have you, by chance, had a chance to ride that one? Thanks again.
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
It is pricy, I will admit, but it makes me happy so it's worth it for me at least. The S1000R is a great bike. My friend has one and I have ridden in a few times, but I'm not a big fan on inline 4 engines. The Twins make me happy. From the torque to the sound, an inline 4 just doesn't give me that same joy.

Hi Boris i am planing to buy a 2015 R Nine T with 25000 miles on it. Just wanted to know if you have and issues with the bike maintenance wise after posting this vlog i am assuming you must have reached or may be closing this range on this bike, and if you would be kind enough to let me know what should i be looking for when i but it? Thanks
@BorisOnBikes4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerry. Just make sure that all the maintenance has been performed on it. I have maintained mine since day 1, and as of yesterday, the bike has just about 42,000 miles on it. Still has never needed a valve adjustment. Always was in spec. It has been out of warranty since about 30k miles and has been a joy to ride. As long as you maintain it properly, these boxer motors are pretty much bulletproof. Only thing that you would not know about is how the previous owner rode it. Replacing the clutch is a pain and will be expensive, seeing how its in the middle of the damn engine, but other than that... best bike I've owned. reliability and overall function of the bike. It's done everything I've asked from it, from off-roading it, jumping it on moto camping trips, to riding track days and long, all day trips. Hope this helps you with your decision :) Safe riding!

Do you recommend it for a new biker? Of course with traction control on it , also do you know what are the differences between the 2016 and 2017 model ?
@BorisOnBikes7 жыл бұрын
I honestly can't say yes or no to that question. It all depends how you feel on the bike. I mean, it is a 1200cc bike so it's definitely not a small bike LOL! I mean my first bike was a Yamaha R1 so I can't say NO, this is not a good first bike, but it is low and well balanced and comfy. As far as 2016 and 2017 difference, not too much. The '17 model has adjustable front forks, whereas the '16 does not. Also the gauge cluster is a bit different also, but other than that, they should be almost the same.
@sere4uall7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the fast reply , I have put down the payment for a brand new one :) Yes they have front forks adjustable . I love the looks and i just want to keep it for as long as possible. Also I added the tank with out the weld. Thank you for the videos ! You got a new subscriber :D

I don't think BMW makes hard bags, but there is Hepco and Becker and GIVI that make hard cases (I think) On my bike, I installed a Pelican case as a top box and that worked well for my moto camping ventures.
