Hey Guys! So the texture release done a number on a lot of us but I’m finally out of that mess and I know a lot of you wanted to know how I did it! I’m finally damage free and have zero intention of getting another texture release or similar treatment again but all will be explained in the video :)

I totally relate to your texture release experience! I think despite the texture release being marketed as a ‘temporary’ is definitely not true because from my personal experience that it definitely PERMANENTLY altered my hair texture. My texture is a bit different from yours (3c/4a), but I literally had the same experience as you with the first time it mostly going back to my original texture (I think the difference wasn’t noticeable) but after getting it done 2x a year for 2 years I definitely have significant damage from the treatment and am now in a position where my only option is to cut it off or grow it out completely…. And my hair is long! Not far from waist length 😅 I think the treatment should be only recommended to people who only want to wear their hair straight, as like an alternative to relaxers (even though it’s definitely some form of relaxer), definitely not for people who mostly want to enjoy their natural hair. And even then you have to make sure to go to a proper hair dresser and stay vigilant, bc damn this treatment is mostly recommended every 3/4 months… I don’t even wanna know what my hair would’ve looked like if I followed that advice 😂

Heat styling responsibly. Use bonding treatments/masques. Thanks for sharing your methods

Looks like heat damage, not chemical damage. The stylist used too much heat.

Love your transparency and thoroughness ❤ it is a struggle in London to find great natural hairstylists, had a few horror stories myself so I feel you !! Got myself a texture release and at this point if it breaks it breaks lol I'm tired and don't want to be a prisoner of my hair ! Keep the great content coming !

Ive been following your texture release journey and had one done last year. Definitely needs touching up, but now im scared after this because it's the roots that require it ends still okayish. You're hair will recover it and you still look great don't worry. Please share these hairdresser stories it's scandalous out there!

Here for the tea!! I’ve been afraid to go to London stylists because I’ve not actually seen any natural hairstylists, they mostly do straight styles.

Gosh I literally followed your texture release journey the most when I was looking to get it done. Did one round may 2023 and my hair did revert back mostly but I’ve recently noticed more straightener pieces at the back when wet. It blends easily into my fro though but to your point I don’t think I’ll do a second round so thanks for this video really helpful. I should add I RARELY use heat as in blow drying. I’ve done a silk press in Feb (which reverted back nicely). Funnily enough she was the one that noticed the looser curls when she was washing my hair

I've been following your channel for a while now, since you decided to transition from relaxed to natural, and I have to say, your hair grows so fast! I am going through a similar experience with a relaxer and am now transitioning to natural hair for the millionth time. This time, I am certain that I will no longer use chemical straighteners because they're just too complex. There's a lot that goes into it and I am just at a point where I don't want to risk damaging my hair due to user error or potentially a bad batch of product. So I am growing my hair and am going to get a series of hair cuts to speed up the process.

My hair gets damaged too easily.....funnily enough not by me!! It's weak because of my genetics but a lot of hairdressers do not know this and do not know how to consult and test for this before doing the hair care and styling. My regular stylist went on vacation and I went to this one lady who said that she had 25 years of experience....yup heat damage. My stylist I met at Aveda, and he's moved salons but I'm going with him because he knows my hair and has never damaged it. We also know that no one else, but him and I, is allowed ever again to put a flat iron on my hair. Lol! He can fix my wonky home cuts but he can't fix heat damage/chemical damage. Maybe I'll do a texture release or relaxer on short pixie hair but once my hair is over 3 or 4 inches...nope.

This is it!! Hair stylists need to be able to assess your hair type and know what it can and can’t take because everyone’s hair is different 🙈 but trying to find these specialist hairdressers is like a needle in a haystack haha

I have done the texture release on myself at home but I DO NOT blow dry or flat iron it. I stop at steaming it, because I just want it for manageability and I wait approx 6 months between each, so I have not had any damage so far. But I do use bond repairs regularly because I wear my 4C hair curly

i don't understand why you're saying the second texture release damaged your hair? i just watched your older video where you said it wasn't texture release caused damage, and that it was because you had heat damaged it by using straighteners on it constantly and not using heat protectant etc? and then you got another texture release WHILE your hair was heat damaged? can you please clarify?
@nucchi

I said my hair had very slight damage in the front from heat, no one could even tell it was there. When I went to get the texture release again, it straightened out all my hair all over. And after doing more research, this has happened to many people even on their first TR, so it actually wasn't the heat damage that caused it. My hair would've been like this regardless. Even the hairdresser that was doing the TR at that time said I can get it done and it won't make any of the heat damaged parts worse, as it apparently "doesn't alter your hair and it will just come back to it's regular state" - so it's not meant to change your hair at all but it did

Using more heat, several passes on already heat damaged hair will definitely make the damage worse.

Yeah mine didn't revert but thank goodness was only the top due to being a sew-in. At first I thought it was my hair dresser putting relaxer in and calling it texture release. But from your video, I've realised the fault must lie in the product itself and the marketability.

Great video! I personally do not recommend a texture release. After my second one in Dec 2022, my hair started to fall out. I’ve lost 50% of my hair density since. I had full, thick bra strap length hair before the treatment. It’s just hair and hair grows back, but it’s disheartening to see. This is the most damage my hair has ever seen. Not even in my 13 years of relaxing my hair did I experience this, so I’m telling everyone I know to stay away from it. It’s Apr 2024 I’m still growing and cutting out the heat damage. The density will probably take a few years to grow back

I had one texture release. I didn't mind it... But my hair looked too flat and I think I lost some hair. I waited and did hair Botox ONLY on the roots. I didn't trust that hairdressers wouldn't over process it. I'm now a straight hair natural and I'm happy. I use wigs sometimes too.

Texture release is a very light perm, when you do it, you are essentially changing the structure of your hair strand. Hence the reason the first go at it seems fine after you wash the hair, but doing it a second time will show you that the hair strands were permanently changed, you now have to treat the hair like permed hair that had long stretches between relaxers.

This just isn’t true . I’ve had texture releases multiple times and my hair reverts . Heat damage is not reversible though
@Quetzali19

@@doctorofletters8412I’ve had it multiple times as well over the past 5 years and it takes about 8-9 months for my hair to fully revert. My hairdresser, who is an Avlon Texture Release instructor, told me that clients with fine hair may think that their hair is damaged because it stays mostly straight after 3 months. This happens to me.
