I have so many uk hair salon horror stories but I guess I'll start here! I still can't believe how viral it went and how the stylist tried to jump on the bandwagon to not take accountability. It really is so hard to find professionals these days sighh.
Drop your horror stories in the comments below, let's have a gossip :D

You paid £260, she was an hour late and the press didn't even last?! You were definitely too nice in the review, I couldn't wait an hour, I can't stand when these services play with your time but if it was the other way round... Good thing I'm not a content creator, they'd hate me!

Tell me about it!! And I forgot to even mention she started making videos saying how she’s going to get clients to sign ndas before they post content 😅 literally crazy behaviour. If any stylist made me sign an nda I wouldn’t go! Clearly you’re hiding something in there lol

That’s a dreadful experience. Incredibly unprofessional. She could’ve texted you to explain she was running late and given you a discount. Can’t get past that. I get not showing frustration when someone is doing your hair though. Totally agree about the black UK hair experience, it’s unforgivably variable given the costs. Thanks for sharing ❤

I know exactly who you are talking about. I used to go her back in the day for weave in her humble little flat before she blew up and 5x her prices. Tbh She’s more of a weave specialist than natural hair care. Her prices now are completely obscene and not worth it. £260 for a Silk press is totally stupid

You handled the case with so much dignity, I can tell that you were not set out to bash her. I'm actually alarmed with the way that she responded in public in contrast to how she messaged you privately and I've noticed that this tends to be the norm where stylists hate accountability? She may have intended to use less heat on your hair because she didn't want to add any more heat damage so the healthier parts of your hair frizzed out more in comparison to your ends - but that still doesn't justify her putting the blame on you by saying that you 'asked for that'. The cut was not senior stylist quality. Such a horrible experience with how she dealt with your reasonable complaint. I was planning to go to her for a corrective cut but thank goodness I came across this video.

This story is wild 😭 Sorry you experienced that!, Not her making a video after being an hour late and giving you a choppy hair cut! Honestly this is also testament to how sometimes in your niceness you have to make sure you're completely direct and clear and not sugar coat because people will use your ambiguity against you. Eish!, Sorry girl.

I don't let these people stress me out. I started going to Aveda with my natural hair 15 years ago and never stopped going! I think I let two black salon press my hair in 15 years and they damaged it. Aveda in 15 years with white stylists and my current Polynesian stylist have never damaged my hair with heat, mechanically from rough combing or brushing or with colour!! I'm 42 and I have all my edges because they definitely did not rip out my edges or smother them in edge control. The rest of the time I do my own Afro-centric extensions, braids and twists. Maybe because I was raised in the Caribbean but I don't stand for foolishness just because they are black people. Do me right or don't do me at all! I have two black trichologists and their whole thing is hair care and scalp...they do no black hair styling at all!! They have zero styling products and not even a blowdryer!

This is why I refuse to let these people touch my hair. I live in the UK and I trust no one. I refuse to travel to London to pay for them to disrespect me like that. I'm sorry you had to go through that. The hairstylist was in the wrong. You were far too polite and forgiving. Don't feel bad at all. Please don't let these people stress you out. Eventually stylists like this will lose their customers....that's karma for them. Learn how to do the basics with your own hair so you have a backup for when hairstylists disappoint you.

Crazy. Unknown hairdressers will always be a gamble. Re Euro salon, used to work in 2 high end ones in my teens. They don't do afro hair and I wouldn't even ask, they won't even have the confidence to comb it, better they avoided than messed it up. It's not the same.

Thank you so much for bravely sharing your experiences with us. It's disheartening to hear about unprofessionalism in Black salons, and it's clear your experience resonates with what many face, including in the USA with some Black stylists. There is so much hair trauma from these experiences that can negatively impact Black women for years and even decades. From where I stand, it seems you tried to handled the situation with maturity and honesty. However, when an emotionally immature person feels threatened and their insecurities are exposed, conflicts can escalate, especially if that individual lacks of integrity and empathy. My prayer is for understanding and growth within the Black hair stylist community and for more reasonable interactions between stylists and customers. It's concerning to think that such incidents might drive Black women away from professional salons, potentially impacting the industry negatively. I truly believe that many of these challenges stem from deep-rooted issues of self-hatred and historical trauma surrounding Black hair. I pray that our community can work towards healing and creating safer, more supportive Black hair salon spaces for everyone. Thank you for sharing your perspective and adding your voice to this important conversation.

So I go to a white salon. Aveda and I always have a hair consultation. I also refuse to travel 2 hours regularly for a salon visit. Never in the 15 years of going to the white salon in the UK has anyone ever damaged my hair and they have never cut it uneven and they have never damaged it from chemicals. My last salon visit was 10 minutes down the road by bicycle or 30 minutes walk but I live in London. When I lived in Nottingham the Aveda salon was 15 minutes walk away from my flat. I had a junior level stylist and a director level stylist do my hair at Aveda...never any damage and never any weird cuts. My current stylist has left Aveda but I'm going with him. He gets it because he's Polynesian with curly hair.

Not sure if I’ve missed this but I would love to know which salon you’re referring to? I’ve been toying with going to London and do follow some so called luxury hair salons and silk press experts there. Thanks for sharing your experience - of course there can be the odd bad experience and it can go both ways, but the lack of professionalism and decorum from the stylist you described is alarming and not worth the test IMO.

You're brave, girl. I used to call hairstylists "demon barbers", but I'm now the demon client. Firstly, I about go to a salon once a year. Secondly, if I don't like how they're treating my hair and they are not listening, I request for the comb/brush or even pay for whatever they've done halfway and leave. There are some fantastic hairdressers out there, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.🙄 My hair is thriving and growing without their British treatment of my hair and their predilection to recommend or insist with unnecessary trims-cum- haircuts.

Firstly, 260$ for a simple cut and silk press in INSANE. Now add on to that she did not deliver at all + being a hour late and cleaning up when you're paying for a LUXURY experience. You were definitely really nice, I would have been LIVID. No offense, but black business in general have a big issue with customer service and because there's not that many choices available to us sometimes we just accept things because well "at least we have something" SMH

My hair was done by an Italian male hairdresser for over 10 years in a highend black hairdressers in South London. I don't require luxury, i require expertise and knowledge. If that happens to be in a luxury highend space amazing, if its a standard hairdressers amazing...but i won't be sold on just the looks of a location from soical media or otherwise...that has never ever turned out well for me...people need to name and shame these people 😅 i can't deal with BS...also you keep saying luxury salon opener...what is that based on? The location of the salon? The aesthetics of the salon? ....

I actually really like the choppiness of the cut, feels modern. But I totally get when you ask for something and you get something you didn't ask for even if everyone else thinks it looks nice. I had an issue with a terrible cut with a highend salon. But they ask me to come back to fix the cut with there top stylist and offered a refund straight away.

You handled it well, black women deserve luxury & professionalism that’s the whole point of difference in a £60 vs £260 silk press. I don’t have the time nor do I want to sit on the floor with an auntie doing my braids and having them to finish the next day. I want to pay to go in have an allocated time slot and manage my diary. You’re an influencer for a reason your not the first to do a review and won’t be the last people need to except there’s pros and cons to everything and you have to say your peace. Don’t stop the reviews ❤
