My process is very similar . Compressor , clean spray ( been using totally awesome at the dollar store ) , water rinse , compressor , silicone dry lube , compressor , wipe inside of wheels if they’re on . I ve never cleaned the chassis with anything other than the compressor .

Great video, I use to use WD-40 on my motocross bikes. Seeing you and a couple others use it on your RC cars made me want to try it. Works great and using the paint brush to apply is something I never thought of. Thanks man.

I use Air compressor weekly, work has a huge one, I use it weekly to just blow everything off best I can. I do agree the simple green idea sounds intriguing. The water hose part, not so much. I have $1700 in my RC, and that honestly just scares me

I’ve jumped mine and landed literally in a river. And pulled it out, used some QD electric cleaner on all the electronics. Good as new. Trust me these things are capable of receiving a spray down. Naturally I wouldn’t suggest holding the power hose directly on the ESC for an elongated amount of time. That’s just pointless. But spraying over it back-and-forth in sort of quick overflow of water. They’re fine. I get it though, if it makes your stomach queasy don’t do it lol. Thanks for watching my friend

So much excellent content on your channel. I dont know what video to watch next. Thanks for doing all the dirty work so we can reap the benefits. Fun fact wd40 was created for aerospace applications in the 50s to keep moisture off metal and it only took them 40 attempts to get it right (water displacement 40th formula)

I don’t put my cars through mud . But off road for sure . I go in this order . Leaf blower , tooth brush with windex sprayed on it , light brush and a wipe . I follow with a light amount of tire shine . I’ve noticed after using tire shine it stops the dirt from sticking and leaf blowing so much more effective . Using what I got but I like your style might try it out . Awesome vid. Glad I’m not the only nut that details their rc lol

Get some silicone dry lube spray and then blow that around at the end . Spin the wheel bearings before blowing out

Next time, try using a thin silicone oil on your tyres, by the following method. Power on the car, using the brush (1 with a harder bristle) apply the oil to the brush, push it against the wheel, and throttle it slowly up, to you get the silicone applied to your wheels. 1. It's a faster way to apply anything on your wheels. 2.Silicone is better for the rubber, and extends the life time of your wheels. 3. Do it slowly (throttle/wheel speed) depending on the thickness of your silicone oil, it can be a bit messy otherwise)

This was Gold man!!! I was looking for a video like this. I like my cars CLEAN!!! lol. I was wondering about the air compressor I have a 6 gallon porter cable pancake compressor, definitely comes in handy. I'm also a Mobile detailer . . . .. so I like my things clean. I am def. gonna get that simple green foam spray can.. that was an easy way to clean the car. I was stressing when you hosed it down with free flowing water, but yea I guess it is ok, since the components are water proof. Another awesome video. Thanks for uploading this one. 👍🏽✌🏽

I've been using this simple green foam for 2 years now and it always amazes me how well it works. I like the paint brush trick for the wd40. I usually just get a thin coat of wd40 and hit it good with the air compressor. Might have to get me a brush.

I have done the same for years. 2 hours before I go for a bash I spray all the plastic down and let dry. Mud, snow, dirt come off with ease if they even stick! I've switched to Blaster silicone lubricant spray. Soaks in better and claims good for preserving and protects plastics! And dust tends to not stick unlike wd40.

for years I've been using GT85 which is a spray-on dry lubricant with PTFE and then use either thick paint brush or toothbrush to agitate the dirt and clean it (I don't drive my RC through mud so it's not like I have heavy layer of dirt, more like light dirt or dust coating) the GT85 is better lubricant than WD40 and it also rejuvenates plastic and rubber so they really look like new with deep black and nice not too glossy sheen and protects them the best is it will evaporate and dry off completely so it will not attract dirt as it leaves a thin PTFE layer which lubricates and actually repel the dirt and help prevent it from sticking after it's cleaned I will also spray some GT85 onto pillowballs in axle carriers to give it some extra lubrication for smooth operation not sure though if it's available in US, I know it's quite popular in UK though the guy from the hobby shop said some RC racers buy the GT85 in barrels and just spray the whole RC car with it and then take a compressor to blow off the excess with the dirt personally I don't run my E-Revo when wet and in winter and would not hose it with water, yes the electronics are waterproof but the bearings are not so would not do that I ran it in winter few times but the plastic gets brittle when cold so it will break super easy the simple green and also the WD40 are not the best things to put on RC because they are both heavy solvents and degreasers so it will remove any grease/oil from places you want lubricated if it gets there....many ppl actually clean the grease from bearings using WD40 so they can oil them using some high performance bearing oil what probably would be safer is some car shampoo/prewash that is wax safe and spray it using foam lance and rinse it off and blow it dry with compressor if the car is very dirty afterwards I would spray it with the GT85 and just leave it to dry off

thanks... this is great info. I agree with you as well. I since moved on from this method of cleaning my rig. (while it works ok, so long as you know WD40 is not a degreaser) I instead now use the methods outlined in this video, and have added this video to the end screen popups in this one. It more alignes with your points, becuase they are very valid points. Thanks for sharing. Wd40 will soften tires in a short aplication, and will eat them in a long one. Crawler scene is using it, but they warn to clean it of, otherwise tires get shredded fast. So on a basher, silicone will be much better. Better still, a 303 spray on wax, supposed to work miracles on car engine belts, extending the life of rubber even after 1 dip. People on car yt say it can make 1 belt last a lifetime of a wehicle. Protects from UV too if my memory is correct. Bloody pricey in Poland

Yeah, being that it displaces water you’re definitely right it’s not the best for tires. I’m actually going to be switching to a new product this year pretty much all around for cleaning my rig and protecting it. Heard of cow RC. I’ll be making a video on the stuff shortly.

I use simple green and mine does not require water at all is mines a liquid. It cleans it spotless. No water required and simply clean afterwards 👊😀air compressor to dry 👍

Blaster or WD40 silicone spray is best for that finishing look. Is t greasy and dries flat but clean.

Yeah those sound like they would work great, I haven’t found the WD-40 to attract dirt or anything like that. And I honestly like the shine look after a good brush down. But again, those two products you mentioned I’m sure would work excellent as well.

WD-40 is a lubricant. It will attract and hold on to dust, and in some areas that can become an issue leading to degradation. Also, wd-40 will 100% definitely deteriorate plastic and rubber overtime and continued usage. If you really need your plastic to look shiny / wet look, silicone spray will probably be a much better option.

Silicon spray Will definitely work. However it doesn’t quite have as good anti-rust properties. And while you are correct WD-40 does have an impact on plastics. The impact on our plastics is particularly negligible in fact many say somewhat desirable. It helps to actually make the plastics a little bit less brittle which is a good thing. Now as often as this type of cleaning is done it doesn’t surpass that point of weakening… if that makes sense. Lastly regarding the attraction of dirt and WD-40 as a lubricant. I actually do not consider WD-40 to be a lubricant at all. While it does tend to showcase this benefit it actually absorbs water. someone should never use WD-40 as a grease or lubricant. Other things are used for that in the proper places. As far as WD-40 attracting dirt, it does… Like anything else… When wet. However if given the opportunity to dry than it really is a non-issue in the arena of attracting dirt and the anti-rust agent far outweighs its dust attracting downside. I do appreciate your commentary, I do actually have a bottle of silicon spray that does do a great job at creating that shine. I’ve just really been happy with WD-40 on the tactic that I provide/show here.

@@EastTactics everyone has there options. Water Displacement fluid number 40 is a petroleum based product. Which in and of itself will deteriorate plastic and rubber. And the oils left behind will attract and hold onto dust more so than other chemicals that are better designed and suited for the uses in radio controlled vehicles. Also the myth that WD-40 will make plastics more malleable and less brittle is exactly that, A myth. it actually will make them more brittle and several studies have been done, tested and proven, and even showcased in many videos on KZfaq as well. Why use something that’s not intended for that use, especially when there are specific products that are designed and intended for use as plastic that will react way better and yield way better results. WD-40 as a brand even makes and sells a wide variety of products that would be better suited for your specific needs. Get rid of the old blue and yellow. It old tech and Dose nothing well.

@@rockdblock1034 Im one of those youtube channels that have done the tests myself, and witnessed the evidence with my own two eyes. And both tests proved that it's not a myth, it does in fact help make the plastics more malleable and less brittle when soaked for a long period. Sure... in massive excess, like soaking it for weeks at a time it can and will weaken plastics. You are correct in that. but nobody who uses it (uses it to that excess). Also, im not disagreeing there are not better products out there. But WD-40 used to make plastics shine, less brittle, and more importantly keep rust away from all your metals is a Win product. It works fine, even if it attracts a bit of dust. but I've never had an issue with it attracting Dust either. just let it dry before your next bash. You can't say it does nothing well. Because its been great for me, and many who've watched my vids on the topic. Sure sure... perhaps its not the best... but its certainly not a fail to use.

Ok, so I finally got the bravery to blast my Arrma's with a hose (gently of course, like in this vid...) and thoroughly dried the truck by putting it upside down for about 15 minutes, then completely drying the rest with an air compressor.... How long do you usually wait before running the vehicle after washing? Thanks :)

Honestly… Every time I’ve ever washed it it’s been to put it away. So it’s always dried overnight or longer. But if you air dry it with a air compressor. Then you could run it right away.

Remeber bearings need to be cleaned and lubricated after several use. Most of the time, if your bearings are only oiled and not greased, water and cleaners can remove the oil and make those run dry. Yes the car is waterproof but bearing rust if those are not properly maintained. Your method is perfect only detail are the bearing maintenance, this also include the BL motor bearing. WD40 and 3 in 1 oil are not bearing lube, highly recomends proper bearing cleaning and oil or grease application. Is not a fun task but it save money in the long run Believe me.

Yes… As mentioned in the video, this process is not for lubricating the vehicle. Simply for Rust protection Plastic treatment, and a really clean look. I probably should’ve mentioned it more clearly that one still needs to go in and keep their bearings properly greased. While I did mention that WD-40 is not a lubricant. Thanks for the comment

I am curious to know how WD-40 would last in long-term situations because it is water-soluble so overtime would that not be able to separate and wash away from the plastic or does the plastic retain the WD-40 fluid? Maybe a good idea is for you to soak some plastic and let them weather like you normally would with the RC car and see what the results are overtime. Does the plastic remain flexible and less prone to being brittle and breaking? Especially in colder temperatures.

I have three videos in my library that talk about WD-40 and its affect on plastics. Doing a soaking actually does have an impact. I’ve soaked my rear wing mounts because I hate when those suckers break. I will definitely say that yes overtime providing a lacquer of WD-40 over the whole vehicle does actually help to make your plastic/brittle overtime. But not too much!. So yeah it’s good stuff

I haven’t had a single inkling of rust issues, with the tactics regarding WD-40. It really does work great. However, this new stuff that I found I’m hoping is going to continue to provide the same level of rust resistance, but also leave behind a higher level of both lubrication, and dirt resistance. I’ll be making a video on these products in the near future.

You never had problems with screws loosing up? WD40 is great to use to help loosen rusted bolts, never thought to use it to coat the entire car...great idea to brush it on, I think I will try a silicone coating just to be safe

I never have had problems with screws loosening up. I think it’s because the brush technique just coats the very top rather than taking the can and trying to spray directly under the cap of a screw to purposely try to get the WD-40 to sleep downward into the well.

Looks nice! 😎 when do you grease the bearings? do you add the grease to the outside of the bearings on each side of the wheel hub? before or after the wd40 treatment? I've always been a little confused about greasing the bearings.

I’ve changed all of my bearings over to plastic sealed bearings because they last longer in general on their own. As far as doing a greasing job for them. I would say once every six months it’s a good idea to at least look into them and see how they’re doing. Providing a very light coat with that brush over the bearings every time you clean it is actually not going to do much when it comes to drying them out. It’s when people actually try to spray WD-40 into the bearings that is a bad idea. Doing a regreasing of all of your bearings though is not a small task. And generally people do it once a year. The more concerning bearings that you might want it for sure look into with a critical eye are the bearings inside the motor and the center differential. Of course all the others too but just those ones are the most under critical load.

Hey u got any tips for the foam pad that goes in receiver box? I can't keep it in place after I redo my wires? Just scared when I hose it off water going get in receiver box.

I use the blunt side of a rectangular shaped razor blade (Because they’re so thin) to push the little foam insert fully into place first, then leave seated all the way down in place. Then I use a saw motion or like a back and forth gentle flossing motion while easing the wires downward. Naturally making sure the three wires remain in the vertical (thin) position. When all the wires are in I lightly push down on the top wire with my tweezers and gently pull the razor blade out. Let me know if that works out for you.

That helps. Got a question I never got my talion v4. Come to find out it’s not being made no more and when I called to see about v5 they have no info, so my question is what other rc is out there that sits low like the talion or typhon can go 70mph and can bash. Other than kraton 6s cause it only does 60mph. Thanks guys

Wouldn’t it be possible with the right ESC and motor combination, paired with the right gearing and tires, maybe some tweaks with the suspension in droop settings to get a Kraton 70+ mph?

Man, that stinks about the talion. But the kraton will do close to 70 with a pinion change, just be mindful of the temps. 17t and mine does 65. Heck, you can get anything to go that fast, with a little money, but I get wanting it out of the box. Nothing like spending almost $600, and then throwing another $200-$300 at it.

Good video. I do the same cleaning process with the simple green, water and blowing it off with air. But have to disagree about the WD40. It has its uses but its not a rust preventative. It actually degreases then disperses quite fast leaving metal exposed to rust. It is good at water dispersing though. Hence the WD. Not saying don't use it but don't rely on it to stop surface rust. I tend to use silicone spray on the metal parts and joints these days. Leaves a dry, clear film.

Here’s a guy that did a really thorough test of a bunch of products including WD-40 in the arena of rust prevention. While WD-40 didn’t win the competition. It had high accolades throughout. Hey man that’s awesome, becoming a contact creator is so much fun. My biggest suggestions are, stay consistent. Dedicate yourself to making at least one video per week. Make sure those videos provide some thing, entertainment, valuable tip, are unique perspective etc. Also… you only need 500 subscribers for Amazon to allow you to register as an affiliate. Don’t bother (if you’re interested in plugging products) bugging them until 500. Anytime you have an idea about a video concept or idea, write it down. In fact start a “video ideas list“. Once it hits paper, make it a reality. I use the combination of a shower curtain rod, and a modified selfie stick hanging upside down from it. As my versatile camera/iPhone holder for filming my videos. Getting close! It’s always nice to see unique angles and clarity. Your workstation is key. Buying a yoga mat of a color you like. Is a huge upgrade to your workstation. I could go on and on, but those are just a few tips

Nope… Especially with just surface coats here in there. My research found a guy who did a 15 month experiment with WD-40. Testing a whole range of rubbers and plastics. The only impact that was found after 15 months was on soft rubber, and it was only because it was literally submerged in WD-40 for 15 months. And all I did was make it expand slightly. However what components that he just coated, I received absolutely no effect

Ya the spray works great to. It just doesn’t do quite as good a job when it comes to That span of time (5 to 10 minutes) when you let it sit and break down the greases. But it still is a fantastic product that does the job.

That’s really weird, because they are supposed to be properly sealed up during the manufacturing process. My guess is the one you got was Defective when built. You definitely have a case to contact Arrma for them to issue you a new one. I know that the V4 has the BLX 185 and the V5 has the new spectrum ESC. But I am pretty sure that the spectrum is also capable of getting wet without frying

It most certainly would if you sprayed it and just left it. And/or you did a poor job drying it down when done spraying it with the water. However...(after drying it well) this is why I use the brush tactic to put a light coating of WD40 over the whole vehicle (gears included). WD40 draws water out of any of the tiny places you might have missed. WD40 is not a lubricant, and shouldn’t be use as such, what it does do absolutely great is prevent corrosion and rust. the light layer over the top of all the plastics the gears and the tops of the screws etc, creates a very nice shine, that drys nice (as to not allow dirt to stick) but also treats the plastics, and prevents corrosion and rust.

They’re not waterproof, you’re right. But they are pretty water resistant. They can handle the spray job that you see in the video. You’ll notice that I never hold the water directly on them to like douse them extremely bad. The spray level is the same level I use every time I wash my RC car and the fans never have issue with it. That said… There was this time my wife challenged me to try to jump a river LOL. And let’s just say that they were submerged for a good 30 seconds. Both fan stopped working! However, all I did was hit the electronics in the fans with some qd electric cleaner and it cleared away any mineral deposits that existed on it. Started working immediately. So if you do run into issue that’s your solution

Five or 10 drops of dish soap in a bucket of water. I would say the most valuable take away from this video is the wide brush tactic, Applying your anti-rust WD-40 over the whole thing. Beautiful shine!

No, I wouldn't say so. WD-40 displaces water however it doesn't have the ability to suck water from composite plastic. Nor in the years that I've used it have I seen any specific negative effects making my plastics more dry or brittle. In fact WD-40 is known to do the opposite with plastics. It actually ...if soaked in WD-40 for long periods of time can make a plastic a little bit more bendable and less susceptible to cracking and breaking especially in cold weather. That all said however WD-40 still has been up for debate as to whether or not it is good for plastics. I personally have liked it. But… This year I am actually going to be trying a new product that came across my table and I'm pretty excited about it. It's from a product creator that's actually been around for well over a decade and his products are toted to provide similar benefits as WD-40 but without the negatives. In other words instead of drawing out water from plastics or your bearings and displacing water, this new product im trying it still provides amazing rust resistance but also leaves behind a more lubricated residue that is good for your rig, it also makes future cleaning easier. The company is called COW RC and I'll be dropping a video in the next few weeks showcasing these amazing products. Here is a link to the specific product that will replace my WD-40 usage. What did? Spraying it down? Never heard of it. However since it did for you, here’s what I do whenever I have an issue with a potentialy water damages electronic. Let it dry out (hair dryer can help expedite drying) Then when dry... take some QD electric cleaner (pick some up if you don’t have some). Then hit the motherboard (or innards) of your electronics with it. It’s seems counter intuitive to spray a liquid on an already water damaged electronic, but QD electronics cleaner is a very interesting product. It goes in wet, but then hyper drys (cleaning away any hard water or calcium’s that might be shorting/!or otherwise blocking your electronics from working. Give it a shot... let me know the results. Also... for future cleanings be less dowsing, I suppose near your electronics. You might have a crack or issue with “what should be water resistant”

Be careful with glued tyres as it broke down the glue and they can sometimes come un glued, it happened with my outcast 8s, so I looked up wd40 and it said it could be used to break down glues, great vid again take care gav 👌✌

Every 3 months I remove all bearings. Remove both seals(new exacto knife)( two sides on seals front and back) soak in hot soapy water and shake in jar, repeat till clean. Then do the same in rubbing alcohol. Let dry! I use Super Lube ,on open bearings cage side of bearing put super lube in half the bearing only one side. Work in in that half,put your seals ( gently push back in) . Spin bearings in between fingers to spread grease all around. Run your truck slow (3mph) for a minute or two. Get the grease into the bearings don't fling the grease by speeding at first. I've had the same bearings in rc cars and trucks 5 years and better doing this!

Well not so sure high pressure water is a good idea. When I used to clean my 5000$ mtn bike I used a similar method. I found that my bearing would get degreased from the detergent and high pressure water causing bearing siezure . Also the rc vehicles are waterproof to an extent. If your blasting water from a nozzle your going to get water into places they don’t belong. When an rc car runs through water or submerged it’s not under high pressure.

The ESC (which are pretty well designed to be waterproof) is really the only component that one might consider to being concerned about. The receiver itself should be pretty locked away in a water tight box. That said, you’ll notice that I don’t particularly hold the water at high-pressure directly on the ESCFor any extended amount of time. There are certain parts of the vehicle like the front and the rear bulkheads and other areas that collet gunk, That focused spray can be noticed. But yeah you’re right I don’t recommend you holding water directly over the ESC and putting high-pressure directly into it. And also don’t forget this video has a very important step and that is to 100% dry the vehicle when you’re done. Not just pat dry it, but air blow dry it, which gets into those tiny cracks and crevices. I’ve had my vehicles for years and I’ve done this method countless times. Never any issues. Now to your point about water being bad for bearings you are absolutely right. And that is why one of the most important steps that I recommend during the cleaning process is again…a very thorough drying session and wd40. One could say that it might be very difficult to completely dry out your bearings because if water gets up inside them then It could be very hard to dry them and overtime damage the bearings so again you make a valid point. However the other step that I do in this cleaning process is brushing on a healthy amount of WD-40 over the entire vehicle and letting that dry. This not only is a great treatment for the plastic, looks great. But it also prevents rust on all of your metals, especially all the screws. The nice thing about WD-40 after it completely dries itself, is it doesn’t collect dirt. People think it does however that’s because they likely ran their vehicles while the WD-40 was still wet. Another important thing to note is that the WD-40 is not in anyway providing lubrication to the bearings. In fact the WD-40 is more likely helping to pull or draw out the water that might be in the bearings. Now in order to keep your bearings and the longevity of them in tact then one should buy bearing lube and at least twice a year if not more relube their bearings.

so your trading dirt for rust. i dont care how well you think you dried it water will be stuck in places, particularly the heads of screws. then you cover it in wd40 ensuring dirt will stick EVERYWHERE. all this seems like a horrible idea, if anything what you wanna use is something like blaster dry lube. whatever you do dont use something that will attract dirt (wd40)

No, you’re wrong. WD-40 doesn’t attract dirt anymore than water attracts dirt when it’s wet. It is completely possible and quite easy to completely dry your vehicle when using high-pressure air. The WD-40 applied afterward in a manner that I do it, has prevented any rust from creeping in anywhere on my vehicle. I don’t use WD-40 as a lubricant at all. I like it because it’s good for the plastics (particularly in this application as it helps to make them less brittle) it also provides a very satisfying shine. I would never recommend anybody take their vehicle to the track immediately after cleaning with WD-40, the same as I would never recommend anybody taking their vehicle to the track immediately after cleaning their rig with water. Dirt will get stuck all over because it’s wet. However after implementing this cleaning process there’s always a minimum of 24 to 48 hours before I’ve taken my ring out again. And it’s completely 100% dry, rust free, and pristinely clean. I would have abandoned this method years ago, if I felt like dirt was excessively attracted to my rig, I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it either if it was the case. I feel like every comment you make on my videos I have to defend you shooting holes in my overarching goal of helping people. That’s fine. I still hope at least a few of my videos have been helpful for ya. Still I appreciate your comments and enjoy The challenge.

I dont care what you say, covering your car in oil to rprvent rust isnt the smartest whens theres better options. Also doesnt matter how well it dries over a period of time, its important to get it dry quick. Those black oxide screws rust FAST

@@dirtrider88 right, while blaster dry May work great and might even save a step of difficulty in regards to quickly keeping your vehicle dry to prevent rust, you’re forgetting that this video is all about giving some tactics on taking your vehicle in from a dirty bash and transitioning it into a clean rust free state. Everybody agrees that you should never let water sit on your vehicle for any amount of time. That’s why this video promotes the idea of immediately after washing it, applying a brush down coat of WD-40. The WD-40, while sure it may be a wet rust prevention agent will immediately protect all metals and screws from rusting. And then, it simply dries within a few hours on its own. Once dry it does not collect dirt. So again there’s 1 million ways to do it, but the way that I present here is a solid solution. Especially when one of the main points that I promote in this whole cleaning process is taking a hose and powering off all of the huge chunks of mud or really dirty dirt and debris that can be splattered all over your vehicle especially after a rigorous bash session in wet conditions mud etc. So to that end you’re already going to be completely soaking your vehicle irregardless if you want to use a dry agent to implement your rust protection. Dry spray or not, if the pre-step to its application is completely soaking your vehicle it really doesn’t matter if you use a wet agent that also is one of the best rust preventing products on the market… WD-40. Most people after a rigorous bash who need to clean their vehicle with a power down spray dry it off immediately with a multitude of tactics, where the best one is high pressure air. Nobody goes through the process of doing an extreme cleaning on their rig and then 20 minutes later takes it out bashing again. It always is going to sit overnight at the very least before they take it out again. So it really doesn’t matter if you use a dry rust prevention agent or a wet rust prevention agent so long as the vehicles gonna have time to dry, Before it’s next to use. Now if I was the type of person Who liked to do a super extreme cleaning on my vehicle and then an hour later take it back out and bash it again… then sure I would absolutely invest in a dry spray rust prevention agent like you recommend. Long story short neither of us are wrong. And I appreciate the heads up on a quality rust preventing agent that is also dry. Perhaps I’ll actually look into it next time I make a purchase.

@@EastTactics my only argument left is that im pretty damn certain it will help keep dirt off your car, or whatever else you wish to put it on, and it lubes stuff. you method may work very well but seems like a teflon dry lube is better.
