to the peeps who are stressing: don't worry too much about your atar, all you need to do is try your best. In many cases even if you don't get a high enough atar you still sometimes can be accepted into the course you want to do, or you can transfer to the course you didn't get into down the track. PLEASE just know that your atar does not define you. Also no one talks about atars after high school. Good luck! from a 2020 graduate

For universities such as Bond and JCU you can apply for non-standard entry in your first/second year if you didn't get accepted through undergraduate straight after high school. Scaling was where I messed up in, my teachers never told me the specifics of how each subject is scaled differently. So I picked my subjects, did well in them, expected a decent/good ATAR and got way below what I expected. Hit me pretty hard tbh. Still got offers to uni so there’s that.

Scaling really isn't something to consider unless you're performing so well that even one mark more would make a difference (ie people aiming for ~99.5+). Scaling is there to balance out all the subjects and make them the 'same' difficulty. If you do an easy subject vs a hard subject it turns out the same because rhe easy subject scales low (but you do well) and the harder subject scales well (but you do badly).

I feel like I was forced and peer pressured into rushing my decision which led to dropping atar; I regret this so much and don't know what to do. I was ready to make my comeback, my personality struggled in semester 1 due to also of reasons that got nothing to do with school and I was ready to set it aside or work with it. I used to have trouble sitting down and doing my studies but I'm ready now. How can I sit in general and put in the most effort knowing that all of this could be towards my atar and could get a nice atar. Should I get my dad to call them and chat with them to let me back into atar? maybe I should do 4 stars instead of 5. I swear I feel ready to take that challenge on but idk because currently I have 0 c's and need 6 this semester meaning I need all 6 to go to yr 12. If I fuck up on atar then I'm DONe and I have to repeat the yr and I really don't want that. But taking risks pays off sometimes and what if this is the time I should take that risk, it might all pay off in the end. Or should I just do general even tho with all of the effort could possible go towards atar and just do a preparation 6 month course and a year long course to get into my desired course in medicine, but that'll take 1.5 yrs longer to get to where I wanna get, which is another 1.5 altogether 3 yrs to get to where I wanna get smhh atar is so much faster and all I wanna do is start my bachelor of surgery course. Idk give your opinion guys, please I need it.

Thanks dude, this video was very helpful and insightful. Im a year 12 student graduating this year (2021), but I struggle immensely with performance under exams - my marks are decent, but not as good as they can be, compared to my test and assignment marks - and considering that year 12 is overall 70% exam based, this is an issue. Do you have any tips on how to improve exam performance/under pressure performance? Thanks.

There are differences in a students ability to work hard depending on their natural intelligence. Higher IQ (above average) students always talk about hard work paying off and while this is true in every regard the ability to focus and enter a level of flow comes easier when you are naturally gifted allowing for less distractions and more concentration on the task.

Im probably not the person you were hoping for but I'm in a similar boat. My degree BSc(Medsci) required me to do a math, bio and chem course but I only do math and bio. This is because chem is not a prerequisite rather assumed knowledge. I think you should double check on your degree (varies with uni) which subjects is assumed knowledge and which is prerequisite. If you really don't like chem/math, my university of choice (usyd) allows you to take bridging courses which spams 1 yr worth of chem into a 1 term workshop so you don't fall behind (varies in uni as well). Tldr: check which is assumed knowledge and which is prerequisite

@@geraldiner2527 oh awsome! So basically what I did for English Atar is buy the good answers booklet, and literally model your essay paragraphs EXACTLY the same structure. Like, obviously don't copy the essay, but the structure is very important to copy. What I found helpful is going thru the good answer guide essays and highlighting; 1. everytime they link back to the main thesis (should be at the end, last sentence in that paragraph) 2. Everytime they use a quote (usually 2 per paragraph) 3. Everytime they link back to the topic sentence of that paragraph Each paragraph should be a new genre convention (depending on the question you answer) but should always be relevant to the overall question you're trying to answer in your essay
@b.l7491
@b.l7491 3 жыл бұрын
For example, if I was analysing a book, and say the question was : "How does text one represent ideas about indigenous australians" I would then structure my thesis statement first ( look up thesis builder it's helpful), for example -> "Text one uses characterisation, setting and context to subvert traditional ideas about indigenous australians." Then my three paragraphs would be on : 1.characters, 2. context and then 3.setting.
