SYNOPSIS
I've gotten a lot of requests for a stats video since I uploaded my college reactions video ( • college decision react... ) so here it is! I talk about the stats that got me into Ivy League, Cornell, Dartmouth, Stanford, USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Vanderbilt, and more. Also, keep in mind that the quantitative parts of my college applications did not "MAKE" it. Stats are just one of the many factors that colleges will consider in the college application process!

Hi Iris! This video was super helpful. By any chance, could you make a video on how to self-study for AP exams and other tips and tricks for studying different types of subjects categorically (ie. how to take notes/review/practice for math, social sciences, history, etc)? I would seriously appreciate that, also because I've been wanting to self study for macro and micro since my school doesn't offer those classes :)

You inspire me as an older student to keep forging ahead. You will definitely make a difference in the world. The fact that you try so hard, it'll pay off. It's nice that you try to help others along the way and along their journey. Don't worry about Harvard...Stanford is a top notch school. There is no loss. SLS beats Harvard in rankings. I have a question- what would you say to a person who questions- is their best good enough? Trying hard without pushing yourself and burning out, how do you know you've reached your limits? What's the best thing to do if you keep hitting- mental study blocks? Maybe you could do a video about it. A video about how you study at Stanford...expert tips on being the best student you can be. Please respond...tyvm Iris!

I know I’m only 12 but I really want to get into MIT, Harvard, or Stanford so I can major in astrophysics. These are supposed to be the best schools for my major, and my dream schools. I hope I get in!

13 year old here, I am hoping to get into university of Pennsylvania (a lesser known ivy). Just work hard and shoot for the stars and I’m sure you will make it! Best of luck!! (Also spend some time learning about College Credit classes your school offers. They will save lots of money, especially if you are going for a more expensive school.)

When you Dual Enroll, you’ll count as a transfer when you apply to colleges? When I’ve asked other people, this was not the case and they said you’d still be a Freshman applicant. Can you clarify what you mean?

Hey Iris! A fellow South Asian here! I want to know if three AP tests are enough since they are very expensive here! They are like 10,000 rupees here so taking three would be 30,000 rupees which is 393 US dollar. I don't know if that's cheap or expensive, but in my currency, it's very expensive.

My questions are did you take both in the same year? And also how exactly did you study for those exams? What resources did you use? Hi Adeun! I took them over the span of two years, one exam per year. I mainly used the Barron’s prep book, but supplemented it with Google (I would just type in my questions and look at the top links). Oftentimes, the top links would be khan academy or mr. Clifford (another econ teacher youtuber). Hope this helps!

hey so i got a 5 on my macro exam last year (freshman year) and these are my favorite resources: -khan academy -ap daily videos -barron’s ap macro & micro textbook -fiveable honestly i crammed the entire course in april and still managed a great score so you’ll be totally fine self-studying this one :)

Hi from Singapore! I took the IB n scored 42 points. Currently I am an officer in the Singapore Army n i command a platoon of 64 recruits. This is mandatory in Singapore n Im kinda bummed becos it applies only to guys while The ladies get to go to college immediately. So I am on an enforced 2-yr gap year.

Aishwarya Subramanian my school had placement tests so I took them in middle school lol. I think you can take placement tests in high school as well. You can self study over the summer, pass the placement test, and take the next level. Vector calc and AP stats are worth it in my opinion, but don’t prioritize them over more fundamental math classes like AP Calc. Hope this helps!

You can also drop an elective and sub it in for another math class to get ahead if you can't skip

If someone with a regular age has a 4.0 gpa, is that equivalent to someone who skipped two grades and hence has around 3.5? Or will the one with the normal age still be considered superior due to his gpa. Im from Germany and all this gpa freaks me out xD

U we're good. Her sehcedule she mentions is the video is far from normal 99% of public Schools in U.S do algebr 1 in 9th grade and geometry in the 10th then algebra 2 in 11th somehow she did precalc in 9th it all really depends on the school some schools are different.

Is the college course in vector calculus considered equivalent to 1 AP subject?

Technically yes since ap classes are essentially a substitute of college classes so taking vector calculus/multivariable calculus or whatever you want to call it would be most likely transferrable to your university So once you do get into your university im assuming as a stem major you start your starting math course becomes linear algebra

I don’t really like when people talk about how they take online classes. You are a lovely person💞💞💞but those courses are like $100-200 for each course😂 If anyone knows of a more cost friendly option that would be awesome. A lot of online schooling is for full year round enrollment. 😔 Also has anyone ever self studied for a topic and received any sort of high school credit by taking the AP test afterwards or a course test or something like that.

Yeah, higher education is unfortunately expensive, and I’ve never heard a case where u can take a test to get high school credit

my high school doesn't have APs so we do concurrent enrollment instead which is where high school students take classes at the local community colleges (we have three that we could choose from). we are enrolled as a high school student but i do have a friend who went on to get an associate's degree while still in high school. the classes do go on my transcript and give me a gpa boost like AP classes. I'm also from California so for some of the classes, I can transfer the credits if I choose to go to a UC. however, im pretty sure other high schools also do this although i am unsure of the costs bc my school covers up to 11 credits worth of courses per semester but we buy our own supplies and textbooks. some of the courses are offered online and you can be enrolled but not take classes every semester. finally, yes bc my school still has ppl who want to take ap tests, a lot of them self study and then register at another high school to take the class cus college board allows that. however, in addition to the ap test fee, the school can also charge additional fees (i tried taking the ap Chinese exam and the school wanted to charge me $400 for it so i decided not to). also self studying is a pain and my friends who do it usually just get 3s or 4s.

Maddie E. R. Hsu Thank you so much that was excellent. My school has sort of a similar thing but it’s for people who want to become teachers. I personally don’t want to become a teacher and it would not be worth changing my pathway. I’m on the Bioscience path. In order to take classes at a local college during the school year I would have to change. I’m also ahead a couple of core classes so I hope that when I am a upper class men that I can say that I want to take some classes at the local college because I have no more options. But the thing is what if I wait too long because when you’re a senior they can see the classes you’re enrolled in but they don’t really see the grade or stuff like that for your senior year. And I also go to a super small school so if colleges see that I wasn’t ranked in the top they might question why since my school is so small. So I’m trying to think of ways to get some more college credit to challenge myself and to boost my gpa. My school offers about 7 aps and about 7 dual credit options but the people who go to our local college will get 8 more credits than me. Just by taking college classes. See my predicament. I’m probably overthinking but I’m trying to strategize what I’m going to tell my guidance counselor. And I need a plan.

Anthony Reynolds I’ve been considering the price myself! I would recommend getting a couple of pre calc books and just doing every single page!!! You won’t get it added to your transcript because it’s self studying but you’ll get ahead and be ready for Ap in the Fall💗💗💗💗

I give you the opportunity to chance me for yale! 😗 International student, 1600 SAT, 5’s on all 5 AP’s i took (self studied), 800 on two subject SATs, glowing letters of recommendation (i guess), good essays (i hope), research at science uni nearby, choir for 4 years, dance team for 6 years, But a 3.3 GPA.😞 (Good luck with that⬆️.)🤔

I think you have a solid shot!!! You’re definitely qualified, it would all come down to your essays and how you take yourself as an unique applicant. The 3.3 GPA, though, is a bit concerning-how does your school do grading? Is it difficult to get a high GPA?

Iris Fu there are only about 60 students in my grade. My school has a percentage system out of 100%. So ig maybe i converted them wrong. we also dont get to choose the level of the subject its same for all😑.

Its not difficult to get a high percentage, but for the first two years i wasn’t sure of what i wanted to be and with 11 compulsory subjest i wasn’t interested in academics.

Damn girl, you raised the bar to high. Me being an upcoming junior with only 2 honor classes done, took algebra 1 freshman year, planning to take only 2 AP classes next year, and wanting to be accepted to a high ranking college.🙃🥲
