Hey guy! So I wanted to clarify what I mean by “mixed” in this video. I mean not having to be biracial, grandparent being non black or great grand parent having to be non black for you to attain hair growth. Most likely everyone is mixed to some degree in America and elsewhere, but I specifically mean mixed in the sense of my first sentence here. Hope that clarifies any misunderstanding.

I have 4a 4b hair and when I straighten it it’s halfway down my back, I have so many people asking me what I am mixed with. 🙄 I tell them the father the son and the Holy Spirit because I get so annoyed. I take really good care of my hair that’s it, I don’t need to be nor am I mixed with anything. I have 3 young daughters and the only issue I have is they hate washing their hair so that is my biggest struggle. This video was helpful, thank you.

I do my daughters hair every day! One has tail bone hair and the other one has mid back length… they are 2 and 4 years old. I don’t do braids, twist etc… I just shampoo, detangler spray , and leave in. They both have thick hair and I use combs and brushes every day…. It’s important to mention my daughters are biracial… my husband is Italian and I am Haitian. All hair grows at different rates👍🏾
@CammyjOfficial

Hello. Thank you for watching and commenting. My daughters hair would suffer if I did it every day based on her texture. She is not biracial, her hair thrives best when it’s in protective styles. If I were to leave her hair out then it would tangle very badly (learned this through trial and error with her hair). And course not everything works different based on hair type as well. Yes I agree that all hair grows at different rates which is why length retention is the greater focus.

@lady Cinderella my husband did a DNA test and he is 86% African (western African) and 14% European. My husbands mother is a dark skinned black woman. We are all mixed with “something”, but 14% vs 86%? That’s a huge percentage difference in the “mixing”. The dominant genes 🧬 are African, and the vast majority of the genes come from Africa. There no doubt that my husband is black, even the genetics show proof of that. My daughter has lighter hair and a looser curl pattern, but guess what? My husband does not have that kind of hair texture on his head at all. My daughter hair light brown hair, but neither my husband nor I have light brown hair, nor do her grandparents on either side. My daughters hair texture is also very different than mine, and I was able to grow my hair down to waist length before. The notion that a black person has to be mixed in order to grow long hair is just not true. As have stated before, i know biracial people (black mixed with white) who cannot grow their hair past their shoulders. I also know people from Chad who aren’t mixed yet can grow their hair long as well. When I consider “mixed”, it’s referring to being biracial etc, and or having a split 30-50% or greater. Hope that makes sense, and my explanation add more clarification. Thank you for watching and commenting!

People also forget that the health of your blood is incredibly important when it comes to growing your hair out. You can’t avoid it. If you don’t have enough vitamin D or iron in your blood no amount of scalp massages will grow your hair because there’s very limited oxygen in your blood to stimulate your scalp. Even though my hair is incredibly healthy, the hair at the back of my head did not grow for a good 6 months because of my deficiencies in both iron and vit d. It was so so bad! So I put my hair in braids and started taking my prescribed supplements religiously. I was drinking green smoothies that were very high in iron and I was whipping up beetroot juices every day. At some point I almost had an iron overdose. 😂 Within two months my hair started growing normally again. And within a month I was growing a good inch monthly because I also incorporate Ayurvedia and yellow sulfur/MSM into my routine. In a good month I get about an inch and a half. It all starts from the inside guys don’t underestimate it. Btw I still do drink green smoothies because they’re very very good for you. Please incorporate them into your meals 😊

Definitely true info, my daughter just turned 3 and her hair is now waist length. And a key for everyone’s hair like you said is less manipulation for sure. We did not do the “cute” hair styles as she’s been growing up, she stayed with a lil fro and graduated to puffs as her hair got longer. Now, it’s definitely twists or several sections of braids. Hair definitely needs moisture first and then I llike to finger detangle first and then go in with tools. And I’ve told other parents that putting too much tension on a baby’s scalp for a cute hairstyle is not worth it. Less is definitely more and hair wash days/styling days for the kids won’t become a headache if you’re being gentle and not ripping their hair out. Thanks again for the confirmation and info!

Girl, my daughter is seven and her hair is butt length. I get asked all the time what do I do to grow her hair. I say the same thing, simple hair styles and gentle detangling. I keep my daughter’s hair in large twist 90% of the time. I am team finger detangle and detangle brush though. She gets web like tangles in her hair and I pull those tangles apart strand by strand with my fingers. It takes forever but it is worth it. I have recently fallen in love with the KAZMALEJE brush. I was skeptical but purchased it anyway. It works great. It acts like a wide tooth comb but it is faster. My other favorite is the ultimate tangle teezer. I am going to have to try that quench leave-in. I use SOULTANICALS Knot Sauce and it is expensive.

Wonderful video, I love this. My hair type is different from yours (I am from India) but interestingly I grew up with many of these same tips! Consistent routine, wide tooth comb, detangling from the bottom first, simple hairstyles and I rarely do heat styling, or coloring. I have an oily scalp so I grew up washing it too much, but now with my 1 year old daughter I only shampoo hers once per week. Something that was alway routine for me was doing coconut hair oil, and my mother would massage that into my scalp as long as I can remember. It was so relaxing, and bonding time with her, but also conditioning it overnight, and stimulating good blood flow to the follicles. 🙂

It doesn’t matter what I put in it, when her hair dries it is so DRY. I normally twist or braid it up and leave it alone for 2-3 weeks because it’s a lot to handle. If only I can find a really good moisturizing product for her hair. You’re welcome! So the deep conditioning might be adding to the issues of lack of moisture. Depending on how often you wash the hair plus deep conditioning every time is could create hydro fatigue of the hair making it actually harder for the hair to stay moisturized. Definitely test out the products and see but also maybe consider cutting back on how often you do the deep conditioner. Hope this helps.

Hello 👋🏾! I totally understand! Wash day can become a task when doing multiple heads of hair!!!! Keeping it simple is the way to go. Yup, keep it braided up so it won’t become a daily task is what works for me as well! People think I’m kidding when I say leave the hair alone and do simple styles leads to length retention! Thank you for watching and commenting!!

I have 4 daughters but only 2 who need the whole routine (1 is a baby the other can basically do her own). But what I have found that works is if I do box braids in my oldest one day then the next week same day do the other. So basically offset their wash and style days so it's not a literal all day thing. This gives us all time to take breaks and eat etc throughout a process but everyone still is tended to (hair) at a timely manner. I'm a mom of 5 and those 2 girls alone could take as much as 12 hours put together. You're only one person mama. Make it work without wearing yourself out.

First time oh, I'm glad you take great care of your daughter's hair but it appears as if your daughter has long hair was born with long hair I would never do it tutorial on my hair or my niece's there went or any one of my family's here we were all born with long healthy hair it's just part of our genetics oh, it's kind of like you're saying oh I don't go gray and you know no one in your family goes gray it's part of their genetics.. but you should reveal the length of your daughter's hair for you first start doing a routine so people can have normal expectations, sometimes people that read these tutorials expecting unrealistic results so just be transparent but great information
@CammyjOfficial
@CammyjOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Hello 👋🏾. Thank you for watching and commenting. My daughters hair would not be as long or as healthy if I didn’t take care of it. Genetics definitely plays a part in how much hair she grows each year, but the state of her hair is due to it being taken care of in the manner I describe in the video. There was a time I couldn’t grow my hair passed my shoulders because I wasn’t taking care of it right, so even though my hair had the potential to be longer and healthier I didn’t have the right routine in place to do so.
@CammyjOfficial
@CammyjOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
And remember that even if you have the genetics 🧬 for something you still actually have to do something to reach that potential. I put a lot of time, energy and effort into taking care of my daughters hair so that it isn’t damaged, matted, tangled, breaking off etc. the care that I have put into her hair is the reason why it’s reached to where it has. She had the genetics to grow long hair but I as her parent actually had to do something to help it get there with a good routine so that way her hair isn’t breaking off and becoming damaged.

@baileysmooth97 I was thinking the same thing. I watched so many videos where people either have a different texture or they already had genetics to grow long hair. Thank you for addressing genetics because some people are out here selling treatments and saying it will male your hair grow 12 inches in a year, no matter who you are. My 4C hair grows about 9 inches per year but I love cutting. I've been cutting my daughter's since she was a baby and last year she asked me to stop. She tuned 10 this month and her hair is to her tailbone. We are black and her 3C hair is protein sensitive , fine strands, very dense and prone to dryness. It's a lot of work. Phew!

Hello 👋🏾 Laila! That’s exactly why I don’t push or praise hair growth supplements etc. Some people are super growers, and that has to be acknowledged due to genetics, but length retention is key. Hi there I just found your channel about an hour ago, lol, and I have been binge watching since! I really like your videos and I was especially attracted to this one because it was for your daughter. I have 3 daughters and honestly, we all have different types of hair. I've never really had any issues with our hair and always felt pretty comfortable managing our hair. Last summer I noticed something was really wrong with mine and my (then) 2 yrs old's hair. My hair was matting and shedding and my daughter's hair just got so dry and mangled and no matter what I did to detangle it would not stay detangled. I couldn't get it to hold any moisture or hydration and all I had ever used on her hair was coconut oil. We both have probably 3b hair. After doing some other research and watching videos I realized that we had protein damage! I have never had any issue with this but it looked like all the videos were saying to create a regimen with apple cider vinegar and a hair mask. Since we all use the same products, we all had the damage. I did the hair mask on our hair,. My hair really came out good, but it didn't seem to have a profound difference on my 3yr old. I actually had more damage than I realized and in March I had to cut my waist length hair almost up to bra strap or mid back. My 3yr old, her hair just still seems so dry and tangled and rough. Do you have any suggestions on how I can restore her hair? It's been a few months since the hair mask, should I do it again? I used the African Pride brand. I also started doing my pre poo on her hair to detangle before washing but it just seems like nothing is getting her hair back the way it was. Do you have any suggestions or possibly a new regimen? She's about to start school and I have to get an easier regimen. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello 👋🏾! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment on my video. I would firstly recommend you take your child to see a licensed cosmetologist to get a better idea as to best solutions. From my personal opinion (I’m not a licensed professional), I would say that you could try clarifying your child’s hair with a clarifying shampoo and also adding some deep conditioning (that isn’t loaded with proteins). That could potentially help remove any buildup and coating on the hair from the use of coconut oils. I hope this helps.

Girl yaaassss to keep it simple! I wear my hair in four sections all the time and just doing the banding method as my protective style and then on top of that I wear hijabs to keep moisture in. People think you need to have multiple sections to see hair growth, but my hair is growing more effectively with four sections rather eight--because eight sections actually caused me more breakages because one side of my head my hair is more fragile than the other side. I also use simple products will maintain moisture as well. I don’t even use the LOC method anymore, because all you need is a oil moisturizer lotion by either motions, bronner brothers or African Pride. Beautiful hair.. 😍 🤩 . But know that it is genes. Genes genes. You either have it or you don't. Sometimes youtubers have to say it aloud for people not clever enough to know this. Of course you need to take good care of your hair but like clear skin, height, etc... genes or good genes how ever you want to call it play 95% of it. A part from that you have a gorgeous little girl like her mama.
@CammyjOfficial
@CammyjOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Hello 👋🏾 GK. I discuss genes and the role they play in this video. Genes will dictate how long an individuals hair can grow within a year. Some people experience more growth (8 inches or more a year), other experience less (6 inches or less a year). In any cause, it doesn’t matter how fast your hair can grow if it is constantly breaking off and in a damaged state. My video addresses that. In the end I state that no matter how fast or slow your hair grows you should focus on length retention because that’s what’s going to keep the length that you grow each year. Trust me when I say, I’ve met plenty of people with the genes to grow long strong hair, but not the knowledge to retain length and take care of it, and therefore they end feeling “stuck” in their hair journey. I’ve met people who say “I can’t grow my hair past my shoulders”, and then they switch their routine and realize that hair growth was never their problem, it was the fact they couldn’t retain length. Hair growth and length retention go hand in hand and rely on one another to reach certain length goals (if people have them). You can have growth but no length retention. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Hello 👋🏾 Gillian. Thank you for watching and commenting! Yeah I’m going to have to say that in every video going forward with my daughters hair. Her hair texture is totally different from mine and my husbands. Her hair color too. My husband and I have dark black colored hair and her is brown with natural light brown/blonde highlights. Genetics do their own thing.

We are all pretty much mixed, but I know what you mean. But you would be surprised--there is no ONE typical hair texture for African-American/Black hair.

Thank you for sharing. I've been finding it a struggle in trying to find products that will work for my daughter mid back length hair which come to a stand still in growth. I've tried sooo many products from nexxus, paul mitchel, curly kids, mixed chicks, etc and really nothings good. I'm going try out what you use.

Hello 👋🏾! Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes it can be hard when you’re figuring out what works. The products I use are affordable and water based which helps with moisture and length retention. Please let me know how it works out for you.

Im sorry but its all genetics. I have 2 children from the same father btw. I did the same exact thing with my son hair i did with my daughter. Her hair just grows way faster than my son. My hair grows pretty fast too. But my son’s hair just don’t grow as fast as my daughter. So i tell people when they ask my how i get my daughters her so long. ITS GENETICS!
@CammyjOfficial
@CammyjOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Hello. I address the genetics and stated that even if you are not a super grower you can still focus on length retention and retain the length that your hair typically grows. We all know that genetically some are predisposed to faster growing hair and that’s fine, however, if there is no actual hair care done then the hair will not be healthy and suffer from a lot of breakage. I am sharing my tips that helped retain my daughters length and also products that contain moisture and styling tips that promote length rendition. I also stated to work with what you’ve got and to focus on personal hair growth because no two heads will grow exactly alike. I know people whoa hair grows fast 💨, but it’s always breaking off because the don’t take care of it as they should and therefore do not retain any hair length at all. Thank you for watching and commenting.

WRONG. It’s way more than genetics. She literally addresses THIS in the video. I’ve been a hairstylist for 20 years and I can tell you, it ain’t all genetics. You have to learn HOW to take care of your hair, period. I see people with long busted stringy hair all the time. Your hair can grow all it wants but that don’t mean it’s gonna be healthy and thrive! Your daughters hair grow fast, but I’m sure you’re taking care of it and doing something to keep it healthy which is what this video is about 🙄

Hi 👋🏾 Dawn. Thank you for watching and commenting! I agree that it’s more than just genetics as well, but genetics does play a big part in how much one’s hair will grow. I do know you can be blessed with genes and still not take proper steps to maintain your hair from becoming dry and breaking off as fast as it’s growing.

I agree, hair care is key, but people getting obsessed with waist length hair when it may not be in the genetics isn't a good thing. We are 10+ years into this natural hair movement, some people have done all the necessary things and still haven't seen their hair past the shoulders. Oils e t.c are not going to magical change the natural growth rate from the scalp, there is no proof that this can happen.
