📚 How I Recovered From GERD - A Patient's Perspective - www.amazon.co....
👀 www.gerdbegone.com - My new GERD resource website I will continue to build over the coming months!
A different kind of video today on my channel. For quite some time I suffered with severe acid reflux, also known as GERD. It affected every single thing I ate, and I had constant pain and heat coming from my stomach. After going round in circles I eventually did my own research and left a stressful work environment which aided my recovery, as well as the vital tips I am sharing with you today.
If these symptoms sound familiar I hope my tips will help. Please leave a comment if you need any support, I am here to listen and help!
You WILL get better. It just takes the right strategy, patience and determination to heal yourself from the inside out.

Thank You so much for this video as I sit here feeling like life is over. The doctors told me to double up on Prilosec and and Pepcid two days ago. I started it and it seems like it’s making it worse and I feel like something is just I’m my throat. I’m so sad over this😥. Now that you are healed, are you able to have a glass of wine if an alcohol beverage? I hope to be able to do that after I heal myself.

@@chrisgoulding8677 Yeah, unfortunately chocolate can cause reflux. This is a shame as it's my favourite food, but when I had GERD it made me feel worse. Have you tried an alkaline diet along with daily probiotics? Do talk to your doctor before coming off any medication, but adjusting your diet and lifestyle could really help.

@@quettaj Hey there. I know it feels horrible right now, but you will get through this. I can't tell you not to take medication, but diet and lifestyle changes are really the best way forward. Do talk to your doctor though, and go back if you get any new symptoms or any other urgent problems. Otherwise, an alkaline diet, probiotics daily and a reduction in stress can all really help. As for alcohol, I don't drink that often but when I do I have no issues. I can also drink lots of coffee, which like wine is very acidic and now have no issues. I hope you feel better soon 🙂

@@therachaeledit Hello! Thank You so much for responding 🙃. Yes I made a personal decision to stop taking the over-the-counter Prilosec. Especially when the ENT told me to double up on my dosage and to take Nexium at night. I was like absolutely NOT. I have made some big changes in my eating and I have noticed a difference. My stomach is still get hot from simple things but I know it takes time and you have truly inspired me given me hope I will get through this. I’m feeling much better than when I first wrote this message in desperate need of relief. I’m still on the road to recovery but I can feel myself getting better. I will see a GI doctor in January for safety measures. Anywho Thank You for sharing ❤️ I just subscribed as well.

Yes, I do! I was diagnosed with LPR about 4 years ago, however, I never did anything about it bc I thought my symptoms were related to my hypothyroidism. Now it all makes sense! You prob have LPR as well (the silent reflux). I'm going to start implementing these changes in my diet. Do you experience head aches in your nose/sinus area? I'm reading that LPR can cause this as well.

I’m in the process of recovering from GERD. I ended up getting a prescription for Proton-Pump inhibitors (Protonix), gave up on alcohol, cut back on coffee, eliminated eating spicy foods, and eating a cleaner, leaner diet with lots of greens and lean meats. I’ll never take my stomach for granted again. My doctor said that losing at least 10 lbs would help as well, so I’m working on that.😅 Feels good having a plan to meet your goals to become a healthier happier us. Hope all is well!

Hi Rachael. I had Gerd For years, It always got worse every time I had oily foods, sugary foods, carbonated drinks. What helped me was porridge and light fibre meals. The real healer came years later which was fenugreek seeds, small yellow stone looking bits. Mainly get them in spice stores in a packet. I put one steaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a glass soaked in water overnight for about 12hrs. In the morning drank the water and ate the seeds which had softened and enlarged. You will get stone grit like ones in there too, but try taking those out before hand if possible. Have for a few days. This did cure my problem, i swear by this as it balanced my digestive system and hope it works for others too. So anyone with Gerd please try this and let me know if it had the same impact.

stress triggered my acid reflux especially at night when i would stress about my body not feeling good. i’d wake up up with a HARSH tingling pain in my heart area (it was my acid reflux) but i had no idea. i was put on prilosec and pepcid and they only made my indigestion SEVERELY worse. eat clean. watch what you eat. take probiotics if you have low stomach acid and make your own food more often.

Thats basically my story, I can't believe what a failure the medical field is when it comes to GERD. I'm about 85% to 95% back to normal just from diet, low stress, light workouts, good sleep, elevating my torso at night, etc. I hardly regurgitate now. I do have bad days here and there, but nothing as bad as my first year was.

Trigger foods for me are: chocolate, coffee, tomato (especially processed), paprika, cucumber, ginger, fresh onion and garlic, a lot of different spices, cow's milk, spicy food in general, sometime even drinking tea bothers me (only camomile tea helps), cakes and breads made with yeast. I've been taking stomach resistant pills but it is not a permanent solution. My dad has a history of stomach ulcers and I really want to prevent getting them. I started to eat more bland food and feel better now, in combination with pills. I hope I will cure myself in some time and wish the same for everyone who is reading this. :)

she can go on a gluten free breads or organic corn bread, cucumber, green veges, eggs, any kind of meat but no spices and non acidic fruits, like banana, pear, apple, melon and water melon is great. She can't take any kind of sugar, sugary foods and processed foods. ( any thing in a box is processed food) I have done this for 6 months and I was much better but I don't have my gall bladder so with even other foods I get these symptoms.

I wanted to thank you Rachel! I am also experiencing horrible Gerd symptoms (chest tightness, bubbling stomach, hoarseness, headaches, teeth sensitivity and lump in throat) currently and it’s bringing me down immensely. I was having chest pains for a year and I did not know it was acid reflux until recently due to the addition of other symptoms. I was misdiagnosed with costochrondritis. I am eating a bland diet but I will be following your meal plan of mashed potatoes, cooked veggies and chicken. I hope to get better soon. Ive also been drinking chamomile tea. I plan to follow some of the advice from commenter peace and love. Thank you for creating this video, sharing your information and allowing others to provide feedback, information and their experiences.

I had my first case of acid reflux in May but didn't experience it chronically until July. Every single day since then, I've had strong acid reflux (the sensation of stomach acid being in my throat) and heartburn. I was prescribed 20mg of Esomeprazole for 5 weeks in August and found it helped earlier into the medication, alongside taking antacids. Upon the second week (early into this month), I found my symptoms were getting worse, to the point where I was vomitting everything I was eating. I cut out everything remotely harmful in my diet prior to this (high-fat, high-sugar, carbonated beverages, caffeine and low pH foods) to the point where I feel like I'm eating far less than I should be. I'm basically on a water and soup diet now because anything else just causes me to throw up. I had to be admitted into the hospital on the 6th of this month and was only injected with 40mg of my medication (esomeprazole), 800ml of water and given 2 antaicds; ironically, the same brand I've been taking. I was discharged 5 hours later, only to throw up my dinner 2 hours later that day and had to be admitted again. I saw my GP the next day and had my dosage of Esomeprazole increased to double (40mg) and was prescribed medication to help with the nausea, as well as Melatonin pills to help me sleep (since I had only gotten 1 hour of sleep at most.) Since then, my throat is constantly acidic (even right now) and I'm worried about burning my esophagus to the point where it may cause long-term complications, such as Barrett's esopagus and the likelihood of cancer. I'm also worried about taking too many antacids in case the calcium causes kidney stones (it might sound like I am overreacting, but even after 4, my reflux and heartburn persists.) Every single person I've spoken to or heard of who has suffered from GERD has all given different advice that I just feel lost and lonely. It doesn't feel like anyone, not even doctors, understand what to do with me. I hope to feel like a person again soon, instead of each day being spent trying to get to the next one. It feels like I'm living for doctor's appointments just to be told what to try next. I understand stress and anxiety plays a large role in GERD (doctors have told me so themselves) but it's hard to be happy and find pleasure in things when your throat and stomach is constantly on fire and nothing at your disposal helps.

Your problems started at the start of this pandemic ( just like mine ) and got worse a couple of months later ( just like mine ) since then I’ve had an endoscopy and ct scan, apart from some gastritis, which is causing the reflux, there is nothing too serious. So I’ve now admitted to myself that this gastritis problem is down to the taking away of my optimism for the future. I am now avoiding any news ,of any description about COVID and hope that my problem disappears. Best wishes.

Im 38 years old and have been dealing with these symptoms for about 20 years. Its been so long that im actually to the point where i thought it wasnt anything serious anymore... untill i saw your video. It started with intense heartburn followed by prescriptions from the doctors, which only covered up the problem untill i couldnt afford the medication anymore. 90% of the time it happens for the first meal of the day and it feels like the food is lodged in my esophagus. I cant even take a sip of water to wash it down because it increases the pain ten fold. I am going to stop making excuses and start your eating advice tomorrow. If i keep on like this ill be in serious trouble before the time in 50. For some reason ive never cared about it till now. Maybe this is my midlife crisis haha. I had CHRONIC indigestion when I was a vegetarian. When I went vegan it went away for years but over time it's crept back. It seems to come when I go through a prolonged period of eating spicy foods. I'm addicted to chilli but I think it's permanently damaged my stomach and when I eat it for a few days in a row, it seems to trigger the indigestion, but then it stays for months and gets set off by literally anything. Really pisses me off. I think 'ill take a chance on this', then regret it the entire night. Fatigue as well. It's annoying cos you wake up feeling groggy most days when you get it. Waking up bloated and groggy just shits on your day before it's started.

I had GERD for months. Then lost weight like 25 pounds from regurgitate food and not being able to keep it down. I went to Dr got acid reflux pils along with TUMS that helped but still had issues. Eventually I found a DR on KZfaq who said eating watermelon and cucumber helped and it did. I haven’t had GERD issues since I lost the weight so I recommend losing weight and that helps fix it for good. I went back to eating what I want but not as much. I eat healthier now. You all can heal from it just by changing what you eat and how much you eat. Smaller meals help as well.

Hi Racheal, I must say a wonderful video. The things you have told are very simple that one needs to follow. You just need to remember that your stomach will take time to heal itself, hence you need to stick to the diet for atleast two to three month. For me following the same diet and routine as you gave me results in about two months. But still I mostly avoid spicy and junk food.

Thank you so much for this Rachael, and thanks to everyone for your really helpful comments. I've been experiencing acid reflux on and off for months but it recently got worse. I was prescribed omeprazole which seemed to dry out my throat, so I abandoned it. I must say my diet about 6 weeks ago wasn't helping either - chocolate, red wine, really spicy food, bingeing on crisps etc. Bad move. And then I developed a really dry throat which really freaked me out. I stumbled on the acid watcher book and I've been following the diet for 13 days now and was put on a month's course of lansoprazole which works better than omeprazole for me, but I definitely don't want to be on it for too long. You are so right about lavender oil Rachael. I swear by it and use it every night. It's so amazing 🙏🏽. Someone in the comments mentioned papaya/paw paw. Its great for digestion and so soothing too. Ginger is supposed to be good for you and had been using it a lot, but it dawned on me few days ago that it might be aggravating my throat symptoms so I've given it up for now. Did anyone experience extreme dryness in the throat? If so how did you get rid of it? Would love to hear. Thank you ❤️
@therachaeledit
@therachaeledit 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Georgie. Urgh omeprazole made me feel awful and actually much worse rather than better. The theory is that it’s not that people have too much acid - rather our stomach acid is low/weak. So when you eat acidic/processed/greasy foods your stomach basically can’t handle it. As I’ve said to others eating a plain alkaline diet and taking probiotics daily really helps! Managing stress is also key. I hope you feel better soon and thanks for stopping by 🙂

Thank you, Rachael. Just over a month in on GERD and want to go the natural way, but still feeling sharp pains after I eat. Truly appreciate the tips, especially the Chamomile tea since I can't do coffee or caffeinated tea in the mornings. And, I am realizing smaller meals. I will be buying the book. Thank You

I’ve had an on going gerd issue for about 3 years. The doctor prescribe me pantoprazole twice a day, and they completely took away my pain for about two weeks. I’ve noticed that when I eat in a recliner with it being elevated a little bit that seems to help tremendously. I hate going to family functions and can’t eat what they’ve prepare. I’ve also noticed that I seem to do real well with mashed potatoes and turnip greens and lots of veggies. I just wish my pain would stop completely. I’m seriously just thinking about going vegan.

I simply implemented the 1st step in acid reflux disease treatment solution t.co/o6RSF9BxUj and now my discomforts are vanished and some of my symptoms are reduced.. .

Gr8 tips Rachael, BTW organic apple cider vinegar (with mother) works like a dream! Add some in water if you feel the symptoms and it neutralises stomach acid naturally and calms the heat in the stomach and oesophagus without nasty medication side affects.

Hey! I just wanted to say thank you for the helpful video, I have had symptoms of acid reflux and and heartburn for almost a couple weeks now and it’s worrying me. I’m 14 and didn’t know what I should do when I kept having the feeling of a weight on my chest and nausea and burning in the middle of my chest. I also have anxiety which doesn’t help in this situation at all and just makes it worse. I don’t have symptoms every day and night but it has been kind of frequent. I will definitely try the things you mentioned and try to speak with my doctor thank you so much! ❤️

Trying to come up with recipes which include only those foods which are slowly cleansing my system. I'd like to find a cookbook for recipes which can help with this cleanse. And thanks for the tip about chamomile tea. Peace and Be Well.

Same here, it’s awful. Nothing is helping. I’ve lost 6 lbs this wk over it & its almlst like I can throw up everytime I eat it’s so bad. The ppi’s like prilosec only give me bad headaches & the h2 blockers like Pepcid famotidine stopped working so I just feel like a lost cause like the rest of you basically. Damn doctors don’t wanna really help :/ I hope you can get some relief with this lady’s advice

I’m in the same situation been to the hospital 4 times because they didn’t want to listen to me. Except when I ate it caused excessive gas and really bad shortness of breath. Struggled with this for over 5 years. Currently on omeprazole..and helped a little . Lost over 10 pounds within a week because I could not even drink much liquid. So far I can only tolerate bone, chicken ,fish , and vegetable broths ...recently introduced apple, carrot and celery juice..and I’m waiting on an endoscope appointment over 3 months from now. These doctors and clinics are definitely not on our side

Guys...usually digestive disorders (if you are eating well, not junk food) is related to anxiety and stress. I know this because of my own experience. Some anxiety drugs could also help but better to manage all the stress and this is so so difficult.

@Lester Espiritu......I went to urgent care, because I had problems swallowing and felt like I had a tight necklace around my throat. He did several tests & found that I have too much stress & anxiety, & that was also causing me to have panic attacks & problems catching my breath. Right now I've got medication from the doctor & I've changed my diet & exercise. I'm also on antidepressants for the anxiety & stress. Please go see your doctor or urgent care. I hope you get better.

Currently at the tail end of the swallowing issue. It began with not being able to initiate a swallow and then my throat felt like it had a ball in it that grew to the size of a softball and it lasted for a half hour. It threw me into panic attacks which made things worse. Several ER visits, doctors, specialists, urgent care and 5 months later I had an endoscopy which showed GERD although I hardly had acid reflux/regurgitation/heartburn. So I’m still confused. Having allergic rhinitis, anxiety disorder, asthma and now acid reflux has been crazy! Was put on omeprazole and have been on it for about 4 weeks but I still feel like I can’t swallow normal yet and sometimes I feel the tightness in my throat just not as severe. I feel like these doctors really don’t know. I was misdiagnosed several times. So now I have to completely overhaul my diet. Never had these issues before. I also started chewing PUR gum to help with dry mouth that the acid reflux started to give me. It’s the only gum without aspartame and it has xylitol which helps saliva production in your mouth. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Wow !! I’m so glad I found you. The GI just upped the Omeprazole I’m taking to 40 mg a day. After months (5+) on a low acid diet, I’m still experiencing heartburn only not as extreme. After being scoped I was diagnosed with GERD and a few months prior I was diagnosed with LPR. Mine all started when I quit smoking after 30 years (cold turkey) My body was under so much stress trying to adjust. I started drinking Aloe and Probiotics everyday and it’s helping. My main problem is eating the same bland foods over and over. Hopefully things will continue to improve. I hate taking the Omeprazole because of it’s long term effects but I feel I have no other choice.
@therachaeledit
@therachaeledit 4 жыл бұрын
Julie Wayteck Well done for quitting smoking! That can’t of been easy. I know the diet can seem bland but it’s only until you feel well enough to start introducing new foods. Give the camomile tea a try as it has a natural tranquilliser to calm you and will settle the acid at the same time. I’d also recommend listening to calming playlists to help your breathing patterns relax when you feel stressed. I know that sounds a bit funny in itself but it honestly helps to let the stress go. Best of luck with your recovery! I hope my tips will help you.
