Exactly. I lived in my car in Dallas TX for a year. I was by 4303 Gaston ave. It was a bunch of rooming houses and apartments and transient people. The place is near downtown and by a Starbucks, waffle house, convenience stores, a grocery store, restaurant etc. Its a well lit road. Lots of foot traffic or people just trying to get by. No one calls the cops. The cops dont bother you. It was so cold and I had an old car. But I went to walmart and bought thick black card board and I traced my windows and cut out the pieces. They fit snuggly into my windows. The back window I used the fabric from an old super large umbrella that had separated from the metal. It stretched the width of my car and was so black you could not see through it. I took safety pins or stick pins and pinned it to the roof and door both sides and it blocked the rear entirely. I then used a sun visor for the front windshield. All windows were completely blocked. I had a sunroof that I would crack for air. I slept like a baby.

@@billyllewis yeah I always feel bad when I see homeless people . I do what I can to help them when I see one. But at the end of the day I cannot save not one of them not even myself . It is written, that if you tried to save your life you will lose it . Only God and our relationship with him can he guide us out of dark places. What is written should be read, it is the daily bread that feeds us and guides us to heaven. And no matter how low someone has hit Rock bottom it is written, whether I descend into the depths of hell or ascend to the heights of heaven behold the Lord is there. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He does not want us to be perfect but to establish a relationship with him , read of him and follow what we can of him at the moment. He will change us in the things we need to change so that we are headed in the right direction

He got thumbs down because people and himself said the word homeless. He's not homeless he has a home. He lives in his car. His car is his home. People mean he is houseless. There is nothing wrong with being houseless there is nothing wrong with choosing where you live and how you live. He's not homeless neither am I and half the time I don't even sleep in my car even though I have a car I just pull a blanket out and I sleep underneath a tree. Why because I'm not a little bitch and my home is where I put my head down at. That's why videos like this get thumbs down and comments like yours are unnecessary and also get thumbs down

I was homeless for 10 years, (part of that time was living in Costa Rica, no help there whatsoever). I spent 2 years living in a car in New England winters (freeze plug leaks, so I couldn't run the heater). I decided that I didn't care where I lived in the US, but I was tired of the shit life. I finally got SSDI (it takes over a year, and needs tons of proof) and used my back money to buy a home in cash (Springfield MO). You can get a small house here for under 20k cash, and even though it took 6 months to fix up, no more living in a car and now I don't even pay a mortgage.

My lease is up this August and I've definitely thought about not renewing and just living in my car to save money. I have a gym membership for showers, and my mom would probably even let me park in front of her house. The only thing I have to figure out is how to do gaming, that's probably the main thing keeping me in an apartment.

@plantmanstudios
@plantmanstudios 2 жыл бұрын
You might be surprised how little you actually need to live out of your car. As long as you have some clothes, dental hygiene and body hygiene stuff, flip flops for showers in gyms or truck stops and money to pay for food and gas. (You gotta have a good sleeping bag) The big thing is having money. As long as you have some type of income that you go to daily it isn't that big of a deal. It can get lonely, uncomfortable and feel a little desolate at times. Your biggest issues will be extreme cold or heat. You cannot run the heater all night or the ac all day so you really have to dress warm or park in the shade. IMO the hardest part is being alone with it. If you have people to meet up with that live the same life style that are chill it would make this lifestyle so much more tolerable. I used to live out of my car, I would go to work at around 4pm and work until 12 am, I would go to one of my spots where I parked after grabbing some dinner. Then I would put on the survivor season 1 and I watched that season every night after I got off work then I would fall asleep. When I woke up I would get breakfast and then go thrift shopping or just wander around the city exploring. What kept me going was I would save like all my money so as the days went on I would get more and more money in my bank account. So there I was sitting in my car in my sleeping bag with like $600 from a single week of work. Just make sure you like the city where you are staying otherwise it will be miserable. Anywhoo I just felt like writing.

I live in my car too. For about two weeks now due to my negligence to get help for my mental health issues with anxiety panic, bipolar depression from trauma and I’ve used prescription drugs to cope and help my mental illness. Made bad choices and some choices that were due to my mental illness. But I’m in my car and I do have places by friends and family that I can park but no help as in a place to stay besides my boyfriends moms place but it’s not permanent due to no space too many people in his house etc. but yes I’ve been having panic attacks because of all of this but I’m trying to train my mind again to make the best out of this and by watching these videos on KZfaq and how it could’ve worse.

I lIved out of my car for 10 months fell may 2019 to March 2020 but I wasn’t able to save money. I had lost my apartment (it got sold) and Had also Lost my job and didn’t find another job until I spent my last bit of money to drive to another state where i found a $7.25 hour job and that barely kept enough money for car payment, gas and food and saved what little I could for an apartment. I would never want to go back to sleeping/living out of my car again. It was the most depressing, hopeless, suicidal thing ive ever been through especially since I’m not close to my family or had any friends to reach out too. My bother was the only one their calling and texting me to see if I Was ok kudos to people tho who willingly choose to live out their car

Doin this right now in Central NY with my dog. The dog adds an element of security but certainly makes things more complex. I'm also without time on my phone presently, and have been using walmart parking lots and lots for wifi and sleeping. The main struggles are not using a ton of gas, finding things to do and people to interact with, and staying warm (I have a seat warmer that I lay out on the back seat, my dog sleeps in the front. We both are covered with king size fleece blankets folded in half)

It's very doable to live in your car. I did it in Dallas for several months. It was cold. My car was old. But I had a good engine. Good tires, a super hot heater and you have to cover your windows. My seat also let all the way down. And I had a sunroof. So even with all the windows up and covered and the windshield and back rear glass covered - I would sometimes crack the sunroof. The best place to sleep in your car in Dallas and not be bothered is near 4303 Gaston Ave, Dallas, TX 75246. It's a lot of rooming houses and apartments on this street. The place is near downtown. By a waffle house not far away. Convenience stores. It's well lit roads. The people leave you alone. Most are living in the rooms. They dont bother you. They wont call the cops either. Plus the cops dont bother you at all. Not at all. I had some of the best sleep there. Plus its convenience stores, a grocery store, and a starbucks right there. You can cover your windows with black cardboard or poster board. What I did was go to walmart and buy black boards. You then take a pencil or marker and draw your window. Or trace your window. Then cut it out. It fits snugly in the window and holds. Your windows as re completely blacked out. The front windshield can be covered with a sun visor shield or one of those large silver or black sunblockers. The back windshield is where I got creative. I had a large black umbrella that had separated from the metal. You couldnt see through it at all. So I would take safety pins to some other stick pin and pin it behind the seat, and it stretched the entire width of the car. It completely blacked out the rear. So you couldn't see at all into my vehicle. I was able to sleep like a baby. .

Subscribed! Been living in a SUV for 14 months now, I can lay fully in back and make a bed, full blackout windows... I make around 60k a year, but do this by choice.. cold weather is manageable until it gets below 20F, luckily this winter only had a few nights that cold... I'll still take cold over heat, 80+ humid nights is not fun..

And these 2 guys I knew would park by their storage space which they rented every month and they had a few plastic tubs that they filled with water and that’s how they cleaned themselves, they would also use the bathroom in the storage. Unit, but they would do a #2 on paper I guess and would wrap it in a plastic bag & then dispose of it in the trash outside or put it in a larger kitchen trash bag and throw it in some random dumpster. When it was summer they would sleep in their car with it running and then periodically turn it off. I’ve also seen a few guys who lived in their storage space., one actually built his own bathroom, shower and divided it so he had his workshop in there too ! Just putting this info out there, maybe it will give someone a few ideas

He nailed everything, the only thing is due to covid gym showers aren't open but I'd suggest a day at a cheap Airbnb, a friend, a gf or bf. The worst thing about this is being alone. Even though I am freezing damn near to death at night in New England being alone and poor is the only thing I'd say to overcome. It's only temporary and it will get better if you do not procrastinate and MAKE SURE you take care of your car engine wise especially.

Helpfull tips ?, well, since you asked. 1) You should get your car windows tinted. If you can afford the latest iPhone you should have no problem getting your car windows tinted. I think that would give you more privacy since you live in your car. You have an impressive life for a homeless that lives in a car after all. Somewhat you are still responsible since you have a job, most homeless don't have a job or don't want one. Good job keeping a clean appearance like getting haircut often.

Very good info man. I'm honestly thinking the same by the end of this month. Because I have a toxic ex gf that doesn't want to leave me alone literally. I tried kicking her out nicely doesn't work. So I'm honestly just going to take my name off the lease at the end of this month she can keep the apartment. & well I don't have many options on where to stay just glad I have my car at least plus I'm used to being alone. So I'm going to try this out wish me luck. Idk if I should throw away my old bed..& a night stand & small table or should I just get a storage for my stuff that can't fit in my car..any suggestions..but I will most definitely have to get a gym membership for the showers lol keep up the good content 👌
