Building A Second Brain is about building a digital system that you can trust to resurface the information you need in whatever context you might need it.
In this video I break down how I use Logseq and Tana to manage reference information and all my action items.

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing your system with us. It's quite refreshing to see you lay out everything and explain it with diagrams!

Great video. My second brain is very similar to yours except I'm doing everything in Logseq and I use a mixture of readwise reader and Raindrop. I've also incorporated using a Remarkable tablet in the mix as a capture device (previously I used a Kindle Scribe). I take handwritten notes convert to text and copy into Logseq or thr CRM. On the destill and express, I do worry that I'm still not revealing my past notes enough and that all my highlights are going into a giant blackhole never to be seen again. I tend to highlight too much, so I think this is where highlighting in logseq based on Tiago progressive summarisation could help.

Thanks Justin 🙏🏼 The inclusion of Snagit in this system is 100% thanks to you :) I think I'm quite messy with my handwritten notes - it's all scribbled across different pages, and now a physical whiteboard. I then capture only the things that retain importance into Logseq and Tana every few days (and I quite enjoy scratching out and throwing pieces of paper away). I find that the Distill and Express only happens if I'm really intentional, i.e. if I want to publish a blog post or something. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with things remaining as they are for reference "just in case"

Do your courses cover this in more detail. I’ve used both Tana and Logseq and was trying to figure out which to keep. Now you got me thinking of using both!

This is amazing, indeed. I got the same feeling when desigining my workflow. A single-app system is amazingly universal, but multi-app does the trick at the end ;)

2 questions: Is Tana available for Linux? Is Tana cloud-dependent or can it run entirely offline and local? These are crucial criteria as far as I am concerned.
@CombiningMindsPKM
@CombiningMindsPKM 5 күн бұрын
Nope, it's a web-based app and it cannot be run locally / offline

Great video as usual. At 6:15 you mention that the "express" step may not be necessary for everyone. Teaching a topic to others is a key element in the Feynman Technique, as a way to more fully grasp a topic by discovering gaps in your knowledge. That would fit into the "express" step and apply to life learning in general.

True! But I think it's important to do it in as natural a way as possible, instead of "forcing a process"

Hi, thanks for the informative video. I have a question which might sound dumb but how do you bring the content you capture in Tana to Logseq? Is there a direct export feature? Also is it possible to use Obsidian instead of Logseq? Thanks :)
@CombiningMindsPKM

I just use copy paste 👍🏻 It's definitely possible to use Obsidian instead of Logseq.

Thanks for this video! I'm currently using Obsidian in it's most basic form for meeting notes. Logseq looks better for that. But I had not heard about Tana or Omnivore until this video - both look amazing and I can use using Tana instead of either Obsidian or Logseq. It may sound superficial, but I find the Logseq logo atrocious and that's the main thing which keeps me from using the app. I don't want it sitting on my homescreen.

My pleasure :) That's quite hilarious actually :) They had a competition to redesign the logo, so it should be happening soon!

Can you/we use LogSeq in this way? Make use of the smart functions, but with hand writing instead of typing?
@CombiningMindsPKM
@CombiningMindsPKM 5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately not (to my knowledge)... I use a tablet that can convert handwriting to text, but Logseq doesn't have the capability in-built as, for example, OneNote does.

Where can I get Tana software? When I go to their site it says "Tana is currenty in invite-only early access. Would you like to help shape its future? Add your email to the waiting list to get in as soon as possible. No spam, we promise!" But you talk about Tana as if taking for granted that many people use it. Please could you give some guidelines on basics such as which platforms it runs on, is it open source or proprietary, etc

26:16 "we're not going to go back to passing on information with narrative and story" I disagree. I think that's exactly what you are doing with this video. You are telling us a story in the form of a presentation. Narrative is how our brains work. I think the modern tools only enhance our innate storytelling abilities rather than replace them. In other words, stories and narratives are the point. The tools are to help us form those quicker in our minds and others.
