Not all handicaps are visible. If someone has the placard, it is none of my business why they need it.

Exactly. I look normal to the eye but I have 2 fractures in one hip plus both of my feet have broken bones. I was born with a rare bone syndrome causing my bones to not heal, period. For me having a placard means I conserve energy and do my best to minimize the distance I have to walk.

Okay, this really gets on my goat. I know that you have your own opinion and you’re entitled to that. I have what they call an invisible disability. To look at me, you wouldn’t know that there is something wrong. I have a condition where my joints, randomly dislocate. Sometimes I walk with a cane sometimes I don’t. walking distances hurts. My doctor begged me to apply for a disability permit for the longest time, and I put it off for so long because I had heard other horror stories from other people who have the same condition as me about them getting abuse and getting letters left on their cars because they don’t look sick enough to have a disabled parking permit. Eventually I caved and got one because my condition is getting worse and I tell you what within three weeks of me having that permit. I got abuse for using the handicap spot. So please be considerate to those of us that have these invisible disabilities you can’t tell by looking at a person whether they are okay or not, please understand the trauma that you cause somebody with invisible disability by saying things like this. I get what you’re saying about people who use dead parents permits in that type of thing, but please don’t take it out on people who don’t look sick

Someone needing a handicap parking placard will have a physical mobility impairment which can be seen--period. That is what it was initially created for, but now, it is used for all diabilities. Trust me, I am not taking it out on people who don't "look sick." I am taking it out people utilizing the handicap parking spots without the great need. I am taking it out on those who do not think of others, who feel entitled, and who are lazy. If you need the handicap parking spot--then by all means use it.

@@TheFeltsFamily That is true but saying you see people that get out of car and walk briskly into an establishment is wrong and most likely NOT handicapped. I agree with those using placard when not needing one is wrong but working in a medical facility know so many that look totally normal and healthy and then get accused of being liars. That is discrimination and should have never been brought up. Encourage your doctor's office to put in more handicap slots. I for one was offended - - --My husband looks totally healthy and no handicap but NOT.......... Extreme chronic pain and to even get up to make an appt. totally wears him out prior to getting to a parking spot then struggles. Be careful of what is said re: health issues and then assuming these people are liars.

I agree with this to a point, but please remember that there are MANY "invisible disabilities" like my condition called POTS. I waited years to get a placard, but ultimately it makes my life more independent and easier to function with it and I had to get over any judgement people thought they knew about my bodies abilities just from my outward appearance. You can't see someones heartrate thats in the 180s and about to pass out just from walking. Just a different POV.

I’ve got to speak up about the handicap tag. I’ve struggled with this for years! My daughter has a tag but I try my darndest to not use it. She is able bodied and for the most part a healthy young lady. So why the tag? She has a rare condition in which she is allergic to both hot and cold. I have had her go into anaphylactic reactions going from the building to the van on several occasions because of extreme heat or cold. We get the stares and judgements from others because we “appear” to be healthy. But at times her life depends on my using it. Just a different thing to be aware of, there are invisible disabilities out there.

We have a handicap placard for my husband with Parkinson’s. There are days that he might look like can walk fine with his cane. But he is a major fall risk and lengthy walks through parking lots are very dangerous for him. He also has early onset dementia and he can easily become confused so the closer we park to the front door the better. I agree there are people who abuse the system, but not all handicaps appear as severe as they actually are.

Please remember that some “ handicaps” like autism are invisible. Many autistic children run or wander away so parking close is important. I believe everyone with a handicap placard needs to evaluate on a trip by trip basis if they need to use a handicap parking place. Just because you have the handicap placard does not mean you need to use it every time.

I get it, but my dad is 89 years old. He does not look handicapped but he has deteriorating rheumatoid arthritis and is in a lot of pain. I never saw my dad as handicapped. I actually asked why he had a handicap plaque and told me why. My dad never shows pain but it opened my eyes to not judge those who use the handicap parking spots because we never know what their condition is. When he needs eggs or milk he cannot do all the walking without the handicap parking spot.

We have a disabled placard to use when taking her anywhere, mostly doctor, church, and family functions. I couldn’t agree with you more! My daughter is disabled. She needs a walker or at very least a cane everywhere we go. Just today my husband had to drop us off and go park the car at the hospital. On his way in he counted 22 cars without disabled plates or placards parked in the 30 disabled spaces and no one there enforcing it. He was livid because it shouldn’t be this way! I’m thankful he was with us and could drop us off because normally I would be there alone erring to deal with it all.

Preach!! About the handicap parking. OMG. This has been such a source of frustration for me over the past 15 years of being a special needs mom! 😫 I drove a big van with a lift for my daughter who was in a wheelchair. If I could not find a good, accessible parking spot, I could not get her out of our van. Several times someone parked too close to our van and I couldn’t load her back IN the van and had to stand around waiting for them to return to their car and move it. Ahhh! People are so ignorant and selfish sometimes. You look great in all those outfits, but I like #3 the most!

I could not agree more about the handicap parking. We saw this over and over again when our daughter was alive. On many occasions, we would not be able to find a handicap spot available for our daughter, who was terminal and required a lot of equipment that we carried. The baby you mentioned with all the tubes...that was our situation. Ventilator, pulse ox, suction machine, oxygen tank, feeding pump, diaper bag, and all her medical supplies. But over and over, I would see perfectly abled people get out of their vehicles in the handicap spot and walk just fine, while we trekked across the parking lot. You used to have to have an actually physical limitation in order to get a placard, but now pretty much anyone can get one for any reason. It's selfish and lazy.
@goiney
@goiney Жыл бұрын
I disagree about being selfish and lazy. Many are senior citizens and are NOT selfish or lazy. They have lived a long life and cannot handle pain as easy as younger people since much older. Many are older than 80+ and weak and one fall could do it as far as life. My mom never had handicap slot and passed away after she fell at age 85 due to injuries in parking lot passed away shortly after. Remember bones are weak in elderly and not as stable as younger people. Help them to live a happy and long life. Encourage offices to add more disable parking spots. Don't take away the freedom that they need in later years when possibly everyone such as family has moved out of state and have no one to take care of them.
@sacredmommyhood
@sacredmommyhood Жыл бұрын
@@goiney I think it goes without saying that we are not talking about older seniors here. I would absolutely want an 85 year old to have the handicap spot if they need it. But that is not the people group we are referring to when we say selfish and lazy.

I agree with you that people who do not have a handicap placard should be called out and should be ticketed. It is rude and selfish and the excuse that it was only for a minute is ignorant. To the point about people who are able bodied with a handicap placard, I don't doubt there are able bodied family members/friends who use the placard when they are alone and don't need it however I also think it is impossible to simply look at someone and conclude if they are able bodied or not. My aunt has MS and she looks very able bodied until she walks for more than 10 minutes, she will loose her strength and fall. If she had to walk a great distance into the store and than walk around the store and back she would never make it. Having the ability to park close allows her to complete the task within the store (usually a small store like CVS) without having to risk falling, using a wheelchair, or taking a 20 minute break to finish her shopping.

I like dress option 1. Be careful with the Berberine. I was taking it months ago and began feeling quite fatigued. As it turns out my blood pressure had gotten too low. I was aware that it helps people with high blood pressure. What I didn't realize was that it also lowers blood pressure for those with normal blood pressure. It worked great for curbing my appetite but I had to stop taking it because of really low blood pressure. I'm 53 and blessed to not have high blood pressure but low blood pressure is dangerous too. About your rant.....My husband has had bone cancer for almost 10 years and has a handicap placard. It is always displayed in our vehicle. To others he probably seems perfectly fine. But no one has a clue that every bone in his bone had been chewed on by MM cancer cells. He has had a metal rod that was placed from his hip to his knee just to allow him the ability to walk. His femur was almost ate in half. He uses no cane and no walker at this point (all thanks to Jesus)....however he is in excruciating pain and needs to be as close to the door as possible. This rant proved to me that people no doubt judge him as well. :( I totally understand where you're coming from though. It pains me as well.

@TheFeltsFamily

I understand what you mean, but I disagree. The definition of handicap is a circumstance that makes progress or success difficult. If someone is observed to being fully capable of walking into a place of business then they donot need to utilize the handicap parking spot. Mika has "disabilities" but that does not mean she is incapable of walking into a place of business nor does it mean she is handicapped. Isabelle has a disability of being blind among other things, however, that does not mean she is incapable of walking into a place of business. Having a "disability" does not and should not automatically mean they are "handicap." ;)

@@TheFeltsFamily I agree with last statement. If a doctor approves a disabled placard for a patient it MEANS he/she needs close parking. Many can walk and one would never believe they are disabled. Many illnesses such as respiratory problems, lung problems due to COVID and will never get better, chronic pain, recovering from an orthopedic surgery and does not look disabled but possibly needs to walk slow. I agree a person should NEVER use a placard that they personally do not own but a dr. will never write prescription for placard if in fact a patient does not need one. It is good you do have a placard for the children but if you only had Mika with you and walking in to see a dr she does not look disabled because she can walk and run.

I would disagree. I can walk into wallies, can't make it through without leaning over cart like a walker. To much walking ca uses nerve pain down legs. Have 3 bad discs, neuopathy, arthritis, fibromyalgia, scoliosis. Putting off surgery as long as possible. I don't yet have a placard, don't use spots. Will put off as long as possible. But looking at me, you can't tell I have issues or live in chronic pain.

Ha! Doctors, absolutely will write a prescription for people who do not need it just like the government approves people for them who do not need them. Again, like I have pointed out so many times already. I am speaking in generalities--not for 100% of the cases. My whole rant is to call out those who abuse their placards--not those who are using it as needed and with great need.

@@TheFeltsFamily no offence was meant by my comment Ashley but it’s certainly a good topic for discussion as so many people will see it from different perspectives, my mum has what we call here in England the blue badge which allows her to park in spaces for people with disabilities, she has no problem with her legs but can only walk very short distances due to a progress lung disease. Here the local councils issue them and they are very hard to get, I know a case of a young man who came back from Afghanistan with terrible battle field injuries, he has one leg and one arm and is unable to get a blue badge because his prosthetic should enable him to walk but his amputation site is sometimes sore and even ulcerated at times making walking impossible for him, yet he still can’t get a blue badge. It must be easier in your country to get them I think. God bless you and your family, still praying for Lilly grace to come out of china. Love from Gen. Xx

My 3rd comment 😂 is about izzy Bella I also watch oh_maddy and she has a channel on her daughter who has autism. Poor Maddy also has leukemia now. She very openly answered a question about madison's teeth. She only has her two front teeth, mostly, because autism causes teeth grinding in her. She really doesn't have a way to stop her at this time with her baby teeth. I am glad with sweet Isabelle that you can find ways to help her stop the biting. Much love ❤️

I can walk… SHORT distances. Just because you see me “walking”, doesn’t mean I can park out in whatever available spot that’s in BFE, and then walk into the store. Yes the placards/plates are probably abused like everything else. However, it is absolutely unacceptable to judge people just because you see them “walking” in the store. I don’t use this term often because it is overused these days, but that is SO ablest. It clearly shows you’ve never had any mobility issues. 🤦‍♀️

My whole point is the abuse of handicap placards needs to stop. Period. You and I can disagree all day, but you can’t deny the abuse doesn’t exist.

Absolutely thumbs up to above comment. There are people that have lung cancer, blind in one eye etc etc. I work with a gal that is a leg amputee. She has had artificial leg for years and had slacks on and parked in handicap slot and some guy actually yelled at her in front of many other people in parking lot.. She immediately rolled her one leg pant up and said "so sorry" - you are lucky you have TWO legs" People in parking lot all applauded the gal. Amputees if walking too far will get sores where brace fits on leg. Who looked like a jerk now? Sure was not the amputee. Please do not judge people. Again if not needing a placard absolutely wrong. Still do not judge - call your husband and drive to the car that you judged incorrectly.

I’m glad she called him out. I don't condone anyone to treat others poorly. Please remember/ I’m speaking I. Generalities and NOT FOR ALL INSTANCES. Are there people that need the placard- YES! Is the placard overly abused- YES! You do realize my husband gives these handicap parking placard tickets WEEKLY-- and you would be appalled at the entitlement, excuses, and abuse that he sees weekly.

I have a stoma, I need to use the disabled bathroom as I need access to a sink/ water to change my stoma bag. However, when I exit the bathroom, the abuse I have received, from glares to being shouted at, because to them I appear ‘normal’. The disabled facilities are NOT just for people with wheelchairs.

It's not just America, happens in Australia too. I use the handicap spots and it infuriates me when people park there and don't have a parking permit displayed.

My mother and father in law have handicap plackets and in no way need them. It infuriates me. They are both fully capable of walking independently and lead active lives. My father in law even works 7 days a week on a dairy farm from sun up to sun set. He has arthritis so his dr said he “qualified” for a permit. If he’s capable of working on a farm he’s capable of walking a few extra feet into a store! Those spaces should ONLY be used for people who can not walk independently and need mobility assistance. So my in laws are taking up a space that someone in a wheelchair NEEDS to be able to get their chair in and out of a vehicle just because they think they are old enough to “deserve” a handicap sign! Ugh! Laws definitely need to be changed about this!
