Very helpful video! I have a question, can you power a 125khz passive rf id tag with external power supply and make it brocade its id to the receiver from a couple meters away?or it has to be its antenna with in the range of the field of the reader ? Thank you very much.

It was advertising or publicity at least from impinge's view for them to have paid for his flight. But he didn't take money directly or guarantee them any positive content so it wasn't paid advertising.

@@Clear_precisition I know i might be a tad late for this, and you probably already found this out - including from this very video, it was mentioned but not very clearly worded, they may have oversimplified things a fair bit - but you can not. There is no separate power and antenna. Power connection IS the antenna connection. Furthermore power is integral to the transmission method. Power is also signal fundamentally in RFID. What the RFID reader does fundamentally is generate a frequency and power the antenna with it. Then it measures how much power is being consumed by the antenna circuit in discrete time intervals, and this power consumption reading over time IS the signal. To transmit the signal, the tag chip selectively shunts the antenna through a variable resistance. So it's transmitting by drawing either a little current or deliberately a lot more current over specific time periods. The RFID tag chip is incapable of generating its own radio signal, all the radio signal comes from the reader. You can maybe read up more on this under the keyword "backscatter RF communication". Your next thought may be to take a powerful oscillator transmitter and put it in vicinity of the chip. What happens then, is that although the chip is powered, and the data is being broadcast, the reader electronics in the standard RFID reader doesn't know what to do with it, as it's not listening for RF signal, it's listening for its own current consumption in its RF coil, so it won't receive anything. Next step from there would be to create a custom RF receiver which is tuned to the frequency of RFID and doesn't transmit, which will easily register the carrier from even a substantial distance, you can reach 100m no problem, but then you run into another problem: the maximum current that the RFID tag chip can shunt is really not that high! So if you imagine this powerful carrier wave, that you can easily detect and measure from meters away, the fluctuation on top of it that constitutes the useful signal will be really tiny, and can get easily swamped by all sorts of urban RF noise. Things you can easily do it in an isolated chamber like the RF anechoic chamber they're testing with in this video, but not in a real even slightly urbanised environment. Which is not to say that these RFID tags cannot be read from a distance. Around 50-60cm is the range that you can get a number of commodity readers to, under fortunate circumstances. Fundamentally, a beam shaping reader can be created, that can detect tags at a given location from a larger distance, this is basically an antenna design challenge. What doesn't help is throwing power at the problem.

We don't have the option to toggle off premiers, sadly. So all a premier is, is a "gotchya!" or "psych!" when we thought we could watch a new video. I hope you don't use it again, it really only clutters up our subscription feed with videos we can't watch.

Scotty, it's fantastic that you want to interact with the people who enjoy your videos, but as you've probably noticed, listing the video as a Premiere hasn't gone down too well. :) I'm sure there are other ways to interact with your followers which won't aggravate them - do a Reddit AMA, host a chat on one of the many online chat services, and so on. Naturally, if this was a TV programme or a movie then people would be okay with it, we're all used to schedules, but with KZfaq videos they just "appear", they are always (usually!) just "there" - we don't expect them at any specific time, but advertising KZfaq videos in advance, with a time, is strange to most viewers.

If it's cheaper and does the same job while being technically more easily recycled then it makes perfect sense to use aluminium over copper, although I guess in healthcare environments the better natural antibacterial properties of copper would prove more beneficial than that of aluminium (In a Lab environment for example)

@@atmel9077 That I already know. I'm just struggling with how you cut that platter into 100k chips. What material is strong enough to make those impossibly thin slices with minimal material loss and is still stiff enough to be positioned with the needed accuracy.

A VPN won't work. it's at midnight in his time zone because it's a lets say 6pm in another time zone. So it premieres at the same time everywhere in the world, so a VPN isn't going to do anything unless your VPN has a time machine feature.
