I took the flash memory chips from a broken iPhone 6 and turned it into a working USB flash drive in the electronics markets in Huaqiangbei in Shenzhen, China. I ran across the bare circuit board to do this during my previous iPhone storage upgrade video, and I just had to try it.

i think it possible, just need to copy the memory chip from working phone like past video and paste to the new memory if the flash drive use the same code memory with the phone and solder back. **if the flash driver memory still working.

Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, you kind of have to take the good with the bad when it comes to peoples subjective opinions. Merely talking about the bad does not equate to talking down. Omitting criticism for some cultures is demeaning to the people of that culture, whereas criticism is the norm among peers. To ignore the bad is to forgo change in spite of all that which is good.

It's sadly not possible to seperate the glas on the touch id chip without breaking it.. So a custom apple shaped glas piece can not be stuck on to the bare touch id chip. But you can (if you are good with micro soldering) cut the flex cable and extend it to the back or find the right male and female plug to make your own extension cable to manouver it to the back side.

What's next? Turning a broken USB flash drive into a working iPhone?

Well, he did build an iphone from parts... It was his first video too.

"@@wedmunds" Great answer..! If he had a flash drive and then got all the necessary parts from the China markets, and has the knowledge to build a iPhone then why not start with a chip, template, equipment, materials , time, patients and maybe even start out with only a battery? Hell for that matter why not use the RF-ID tag TECH Knowledge to build a Low Jack for an expensive road bike and the receiver has the app to track the RF signal from the iPhone, LG, ZTE, etc..?

I'm PRETTY sure it was the fact the phone chips were in a proprietary file system that was most likely encrypted that's why it didn't attach as a folder, even when it was detected by the OS

Even if a volume has an encrypted/unmountable partition, the OS will still show tie volume. In this instance, it was not showing the volume at all. It was basically showing up like an SD Card Reader without a card in it (Shows as a device, but with no storage attached). Once he got the flash chip controller configured correctly with the software at the end, it showed up as a writable volume, and he could format it correctly.

i thought that also because when you plug in an iphone it says iphone not usb device so you might have to find a way to format the drive

That chip is a raw NAND flash chip. It doesn't have encryption/decryption HW on it. The memory is divided into a collection of fixed size blocks and you can ask it to read you back a block, write to a block, or erase a block. If a block is bad then it simply won't get written to or read back wrong. a very "dumb" chip. The issue here was The Controller/Flash needs to be provisioned. The dirty secret behind NAND flash is it's pretty unreliable and the controller chips need to keep track of bad blocks and write data in such a way as to not use one block too often. Additionally, The controller might not have any flash of it's own and use a bit of that space for configuration. They usually grab a few blocks of flash to store all of that. A flash chip would probably lack this data (Unless it was taken from another flash drive using the same chip) The controller probably tried to read the first page of flash and went "WTF is this garbage, Where is my config" and then went into some sort of factory programming mode. (in the cases where it came up but didn't have storage)

Xiaomi laptops come with Chinese Win10 Home preinstalled but their licence works on "global" versions so you just had to reinstal the NORMAL version of windows home and it would be activated... you really didnt need to purchase windows 10 pro

or even better just add the english language pack, change the system locale to English, and hey presto. term their license is incorrect, it's a OEM license microsoft sell to all system builders.

I´ve been watching a lot of your videos and I really enjoy them even I know nothing about technology. I got hooked on them looking for info about that thing you do with the chips, since the guy who is fixing my broken Macbook Pro said that is what he was going to do to fix it. Cheers from Honduras. Keep it up.
