There are many ways to make a neck cord for a pendant whether is be pounamu, jade, bone, metal, plastic, gold, silver etc. This is what I do. This method is strong and durable, and adjustable.
I use 1mm waxed polyester braid from Caudwells.co.nz, the brand I use is Zircon.

I’ve watched this tutorial dozens of times over the years, and I so appreciate you taking the time to make it, because - as a kiwi stranded in Canada with a boy who fidgets with his pounamu incessantly - I replace cords regularly. I never manage to onboard that knowledge as it’s just infrequently enough that my brain refuses to acknowledge that it’s essential information, or perhaps it just wants to reminisce and listen to a New Zealand accent explain clearly and calmly how a thing is done. Either way, you are a veritable treasure; thanks so much for helping this kiwi in a foreign land continue to proudly display part of their heritage.

Thank you so much for posting all your videos and being willing to share your craft and skills. I was gifted a hei toki several years ago by a Maori friend visiting the UK. The cord started to wear and break apart and I looked for anyone who could rebind it here, but to no avail. I managed to do it on my first attempt all thanks to your tutorial. Thank you again.

I finally got round to finding out how to replace the cord and now I can wear it again with pride. Your video was so helpful (with the link to the whipping....took me a few tries to get this right) and easy to follow. Thanks again!

Thanks CC. I came by to find what the material is used for re-hanging my gifted greenstone pounamu. "smiles" yeah...My dear Maori pal I met online a decade ago sent me a dandy greenstone bird flute..tiki like...five or so years back. She has since moved back to New Zealand, but what a nice gift of friendship sent the distance of Melbs to Chicago. Being my pounamu tiki is only two+ inches x narrow, methinks I'll leave it single stranded with double fisherman's knot. Tip for you: After melting the end, quickly place the flat of the lighter's wind screen to seal it flat ended. It creates a very small flair which aids in securing the knot when no real tag end left. vs pinching molten thread.

What makes a braided wax cotton cord necklace twist when worn. It is annoying. Any suggestions?
@CampbellCarving
@CampbellCarving 2 жыл бұрын
Could be how the cord sits where it connects to he pounamu, could be rubbing up and down the back of the neck. Could be the pendant being threaded through the necklace loop, could be lots of things depending on the style of necklace and the lashing or attachment.

Campbell Carving um when I was 19 I bought one with the adjustable string and the gentlemen somehow removed the adjustable string to become just one piece. So basically I couldn’t adjust the length and I could never take it off. There wasn’t any extra string either.... I’m assuming they must have cut it and just retied it around me? I’m worried to cut it myself because I don’t have confidence to tie it correctly so it won’t fall apart or something. Do I make sense now?
