This smart material is such a life saver. Just a question on your workflow/recommendation; how would you apply this smart material to a painted base mesh? Would jou just use the whole setup with a blending mode over a separate layer? Or would you add it within the stylized smart material setup?

I wouldn't add anything else into the smart material setup, I prefer to keep that as its own thing. What I would do is either have the material stacked on top with a blending mode applied or at the bottom of the layer stack with blending modes applied to the already painted layers. When working with this smart material, I will generally either apply fill layers on top with blending modes or use gradient maps on top. I prefer to keep this smart material as its own thing, just so I can turn it off if I ever need to diagnose/check things.

When I try importing the smart material I keep on getting a data preset error with the resource preset being invalid? .spsm cannot be imported as 'smart material'. Any ideas?

Hm... I haven't encountered this before. Try importing it manually by copying the provided ".spsm" file into "......\Documents\Adobe\Adobe Substance 3D Painter\assets\smart-materials". Otherwise, it could be an issue with your version of Substance Painter. This was made using Substance Painter 2023, so you may have to update it to that or above.
