You can purchase mesh laundry bags to add a layer of protection. They come in a variety of sizes. This is how I was my sheer tops in my washer.

Tip for necklaces: Thread your necklace chair through a straw then clasp it with the straw on the chain to prevent tangling.

The importance of a SIDE loading washer shouldn't be underestimated. A top loading one will mess up anything that is attached to a JSK or blouse, especially any chains or long ribbons.
@LovelyLor
@LovelyLor Жыл бұрын
Oh gosh I think it’s important to always remove chains or any detachable ribbons / anything you can remove and wash separately. Especially chains cause it could damage your washer 🙈 and they don’t really need to be washed. I think if you cant remove chains you should hand wash the garment. There are washing machine bags you can put smaller detachable fabric pieces in. I can’t exactly afford a new washing machine so I will stick with my top loader but will consider this in the future whenever I’m able to upgrade

Not all top loaders are awful. If it doesn't have a central agitator post it is a lot less violent when washing your clothes. You should always remove what you can though no matter the washer type.

Our top loader doesn't have an agitator in it, so it's super gentle! I never really wash anything detachable other than waist ties either, since they don't really get dirty. I bought one dress with a strong perfume smell once though, so I washed the detachable bows once when I first go it.

I'm relieved that I'm not too alone in throwing my dresses in the washing machine and assuming they'll be fine. They always are anyway, and it doesn't matter if prints run a little bit because there's colour catchers.

I spot clean or home dry clean or hand wash because washing machines no matter how expensive they are wear clothes down

For Accessories: I buy the small tackle boxes like the ones with multiple slots and I place them in there so that they are well protectected as luggage can sometimes get tossed around and its a good way to compile everything in one container.

Other observations about colors running: cotton tends to run more than polyester, and red dyes tend to run more than blues- you CAN use something called a color catcher though (it's like a fabric laundry sheet type of thing) to make sure the dyes don't stain the dress! with dresses you're afraid of color runs: wash on cold

For the hanger thing (at least for hotels in the U.S.) you can ask for more hangers, they'll give them to you.

OK I am SO relieved you said you used your toploader for your dresses! I think you might be right that the worry over using a washing machine is overblown. I bought some mesh laundry bags to wash my dresses in but again was too nervous because I wasn't sure I had the right detergent lol
@periwiink
@periwiink Жыл бұрын
UPDATE: I washed two AP dresses (in separate loads) in mesh laundry bags in my top loader (with an agitator in it) using cold water, gentle cycle and regular detergent pods and they came out perfect! No running or anything. I hung them up to dry. These were Sugary Carnival and Jelly Candy Toys.

I roll up my petticoats really tight so they have the diameter of a CD and I put them into a fabric bag like the cotton candy ones. It doesn't take more space than a pair of tea parties

I'm constantly drawn back to your videos Lor, I've been watching your videos since you we doing sh*t lolitas say. You were my first introduction to any kinda of j-fashion. Over the years I've been so interested by lolita and many other j-fashions qnd the cultures around them. I really attribute this interest to you 🥰 thank you for so many years of beloved watching

I always pack really ott gothic outfits for cons and incorporate lolita accessories (even though the outfits themselves have definitely not been lolita). I have a very lightweight hatbox that I pack my headdresses in. It holds its shape and protects the headdresses while not weighing down the suitcase. The headdresses are very detailed Sweet Mildred pieces with flowers, veils, and one has a real skull on it, so protecting them is really important. I've always padded them with my lace/fishnet gloves, which I just roll together and put in between the headband parts. I also put socks around the inner wall of the hatbox so that the headdresses aren't banging around in there. This video has a lot of really good advice. I've been doing a lot of this with my outfits for years. I can't wait until the next con I go to so I can finally break out a genuine gothic lolita coord for the first time! I'll rewatch right before just to make sure my dresses don't get hurt. Thanks Lor!

I never thought to use the ccf bags for the accessories and stuff...I usually use like small little makeup bags and put jewelry in the bbandb bags or the moitie ones in the makeup bags. I also make tote bags that I can fit entire coords in and they close up so everything (dress, socks and all accessories) is together per bag with the checklist in it. Then the only things separate are the shoes and if I'm bringing a different purse (like a lolita purse versus just using whatever current ita bag I'm using)

When traveling by car, I use garment storage bags that have extra pockets. You can get them on Amazon pretty cheaply. This way you can have the dress and blouse in the main area, but there are storage pockets for your shoes, your hair bows, your wrist cuffs, your jewelry, your wig etc-and it’s literally all in one place. Another tip is to bring a collapsible garment rack (the kind sold for when you are having a party or you need extra hanging storage). These can be purchased for about $25 at most big box stores (and even Aldi sometimes!). I’m usually traveling with 2-3 other Lolitas… having more than one location to store clothing and having a 2nd area to get dressed in a hotel room makes life SO much easier.

Hey Lor, i think it might be interesting for you to revisit lolita on amazon. It seems like amazon has quadrupled it’s listings for what’s advertised as accurate lolita pieces, and im wondering what you think of these listings. Im sure a lot of them are replicas, if not all of them, but it seems like amazon has caught on to what lolita is supposed to look like.

this is actually really helpful, especially since I do want to go to RVR when it happens again! (and cry at the long 5 hour flight from New Jersey) I am literally the worst at packing my own stuff, even in a tiny backpack since many airliners are nerfing carry-on sizes as of late so its like I have to get a bigger bag to check in whether I like it or not 🥲
