This is a summarization of my process when I paint character and creature images for clients in the games industry. This is the sped up process with me describing what I'm doing and my thoughts along the way. I have a longer version available with more information as well as answering user submitted questions about all things related to art including anatomy, drawing, color and light, material rendering, developing your art skills, and advice on working in the games industry. You can find the longer version which includes my brushes and a PSD file of the final image available at the links below.
P.S. Sorry you can hear my dog whimpering in the video!

Surprised this doesn't have more views or likes, it was very informative. Plus the creature design is lit!

I would love more character designs videos (especially the archetypes you did with the factions!) as well as metal rendering! It would be super helpful!

That's one of the next ones I plan on working on (hopefully this one won't take me 1 year to come out with haha)

I was a bit hesitant buying this considering the price tag, but this really helped! I love your teaching style you did in the full gumroad video where you break down as your going along what you're about to apply in separate little "study sections". It's really helpful and I'd recommend it for anyone trying to up their rendering game in particular.

@@ForrestImel Ive just been looking for information on how to use reference without just copying a photo. Especially when creating a fantasy character. As a student artist right now, I feel like im tooooo reliant on specific photo references, and my illustrations feel more like a collage rather than a unified coherent image.
@ForrestImel
@ForrestImel Жыл бұрын
@@caileanparis9998 This is really common, until you can dissect things into fundamental principles you're having to kinda go off of what you're seeing which is just a big mashup of anatomy, drawing, lighting, color, etc. and it's very overwhelming.

Thank you! How to use reference effectively is one of the hardest things to understand when starting out, so I hope some people can learn from what I talk about in the video.

The full video is awesome. Personally I would love tutorials on drawing/figure drawing and value/the form principle, how to practice them and how to apply them to an illustration. Maybe imagine what tutorials you would make if you could go back in time and give them to your beginner self.

nice video as always! What about one on freelancing? First jobs, negotiating with clients, flat and day rates, what to have in your portfolio, etc could make a good video set. You could do the same free + extended paid version thing?

That's a good video idea! I think a general video for freelancing tips would be helpful.

In the reference gathering stage you can be seen dragging and dropping images from pinterest, what program or app are you dragging into and using to collate the references?

How are you painting out your lineart? Is your rendering done on a layer above the sketch? I can't quite tell from the sidebar
@ForrestImel

Yes! I almost always paint directly onto my lines shortly after I block in color.
