i feel like the flyaway hairs don’t look like they’re coming from the scalp really they kinda look like they’re coming out side ways from back of head but the piece is good!!! that’s just something i noticed i think you’re really good at art and that detail could be an artistic choice
@gabrieller4474
@gabrieller4474 2 жыл бұрын
I think what contributes to this feeling is that the artist painted the main hair, then painted the background, then the flyaways. Inevitably, the last thing you paint, even if it has the tiniest most minimal overlap with the other paint, will seem like it’s on top, which is why you should generally paint the background first then the foreground, depending on the effect you want. Here it leads to this odd feeling of separation between the main bulk of the hair and the flyaways. I also think the thinness of the paint in the strays be the density of the paint in the main part of the hair contributes to this feeling as well

Art teacher here. Your sketch is in very heavy pencil which will dull the colours and darken them. Use bread or a putty rubber to take some of the graphite off. Use acrylic medium rather than water to thin your paint. Use small round brushes to paint thinner areas. Acrylics will become flat if you try to layer then so try to only paint the right colour in the right place rather than build colour. Hope that helps

Helpful tip from one artist to another. Try doing your sketches in colored pencils rather than graphite pencils. Pencils tend to smudge and can give your paint colors a muddiness. It took me a while before someone clued me in but it made a world of difference with the outcome. Your work is lovely, ignore the unhelpful criticism. I see the work you've put in on your journey to this point and you'll only improve with time and practice. ❤❤❤

You always make me wanna paint, this is excellent. You have quite the eye for color, and the details of the flyaway hair gave it so much depth and emotion. Good job man! This song reminded me of a painting I made - jeez, over six years ago - called “Blame It On The Media”. I loved the concept but the execution was real iffy lol. Either way, a new business wanted to buy it. And then they had to move, and I’ve never been able to track it back down. So I’ve sold one thing, one of my worst works technically but more meaningful ones. I should redo my TV Head.

Bahaha everyone's commenting about the hair. I'm here about the shading man. Your process is really cool. I do mine completely differently, it's so fun to see other artists paint. I start with the shadow colour, sort of blocking out the shapes, then I go in with the lights and details and whatnot. I feel like I have more control that way I guess. I really like the absolute courage you have while painting, man. You look like you're really having fun while making the art.

this is really good! i remember when my art looked like this. personally i think you should be a bit more solid with the shapes you use to define the lights and darks- you dont blend them out so they’re still visible, but making them look more intentional will really add to it stylistically i think. other than that my only real gripe with it is that the face tapers off a bit too much at the bottom- it makes her head look like a diamond or triangle lol. you have a really good grasp of color though, and im living for the background color!

Great art! And don't tell me that I don't appreciate the art, I do, I just think that with all the flyaways, the reason it looks unnatural is because the base hair is not wavy or flying enough. It's just stiff, unlike the other hairs. Just a thought! :)

I agree! You can see in his initial sketch that he only did minimum flyaway hairs and you can actually see where the hair comes from (like from the front of the hair). To fix it, he could add a lighter brown that shows where the flyaway hair comes from. But yeah the contrast between the flat hair and wavy is a bit awkward to look at.
