The Kharadron Overlords jealously guard their richest seams of aether-gold and their most profitable trade routes, and at the forefront of their efforts are the doughty, stalwart Arkanauts - the crew of mighty, sky-trawling Frigates and Ironclads. Though the sky might not seem the most obvious home to the Duardin, they've adapted with their usual obstinate determination! READ MORE:
This is how I'm painting my own sky-port, Barak-Kerrang. There are six major sky-ports, but Battletome: Kharadron Overlords contains rules and abilities for making up your own smaller ports, and I had to take the opportunity to call back to my old Warhammer Fantasy army, Karaz-a-Kerrang. To the skies, Duardin: Excelsior!
These basic techniques would work incredibly well for Barak-Nar, Barak-Urbaz or any sky-port with bright, metallic armour. All you'd need to change would be the colours you're using for the pressure suit and equipment!

I'd just like to say a big thank you for this video, it played a really big part in how I went about painting up my Squat army (based on Arkanauts and using bolters etc instead of the standard pistols). I took it along to Armies on Parade and was very privileged to win Best Painted 40k, Newcomer and an overall store Silver. I used the techniques you showed in your video and this really helped me develop my skills and painting technique. So thanks again, glad to see your back!

Dude! :D Congratulations are in order! I'm really glad to hear it, those Armies on Parade boards can be a real undertaking. If you happened to get any pictures, I'd love to see what you came up with.

Hi. I have just picked up a set of those today. Just wanted a bit of fun batch painting something, and these fit the bill perfectly. Had to seek out your tutorials on them. Very useful and helpful as ever. They look fun to do. Many thanks again for your inspiration and a joy to watch. Kind regards Ian.

These guys are a lot of fun to paint and really simple in principle, but there's a couple of little bits that stand out as different than some other miniatures. The glowing effects and blue glaze for the eyes I actually robbed from a Space Marine guide I saw once, and they work pretty well over here!

Thanks, man! I had an absolute riot reading the Kharadron lore and they're a hell of a lot of fun to assemble, too. They're packed with funk and attitude, so I'm looking forward to tackling one of the bigger models soon!

Interestingly enough, one of the units in the Kharadron army trace their roots back to the original Thunderers from the Old World, too. There's a few clever nods to the original stuff in there!

I’m wondering what you think of the idea of a video about dealing with those larger kits that can be quite intimidating, like dragons, big Nids, Screaming Bells etc? Though understandably that would be a bigger investment of your time etc so maybe not feasible.

There might be a surprise or two in the pipe, then! Usually I'd shy away from the larger miniatures for a video since painting them is just 'painting anything else, but more of it.' Still, there's a couple of ways to make that easier, and some style choices to consider along the way as well! So it's an official Watch This Space kinda deal. ;)

Brilliant work as always Sonic. Just wanted to ask, were I to copy this scheme, but wanted a sort of dark forest green colour rather than the red for the 'boiler suit' how would you recommend I go about it? Cheers and keep up the great work!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
For a forest green I'd probably try something like Waaagh Flesh, Castellan Green or even go as dark as Caliban Green depending on what you're looking for.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio great stuff, thank you so much for the reply! If I could be even cheekier, how would you go about highlighting say Caliban green?

A lot of these miniatures I end up picking up individually through trades or swaps, or I just pick a couple that I like to paint. I've only got a couple of full armies at the moment, but the Kharadron Overlords are one I'm definitely getting into!

I relly enjoy your painting tutorials. My only comment is that you should dillute your paint more with some water, it could take a few more coats but the result is worth it in my opinion. Space Marine Rhino next plz. :)

I do thin these paints with a little water; if you see my hand wiggling away down in the right of the screen, that's usually me mixing the water into the paint. The last couple of days have been pretty warm, though, and painting under the lights for these videos is a killer combination for trying to keep things moist! I really ought to try my hand at building one of those wet palettes.
@276tank
@276tank 6 жыл бұрын
Ah,ok . That figures cause I was wondering "how can the results be so crisp with no water"? Keep up the good work. Am on a hiatus from painting since about last year, when I watch your vids the urge comes back though. :)
