In this video I take you through the steps it took to paint an RC body. It's not really a tutorial, just how I did my body. The design across the middle of the car was initially meant to be a marble effect, but since has taken on the name of lava effect thanks to Mads, of Mads' RC Buggy. Hope you enjoy the video!

I think it turned out super cool! I think the darker shadow lines helps it look like the lava is burning up the rest of the paint. I know we are all our own worst critics but you did a fantastic job on it my friend!!

Thanks Addam! Yeah I agree mate, I think it may have looked wrong if I had made the shadows thinner. I was kinda making it up as I went along, which isn't always the best approach 😂. On the plus side, the way this turned out has given me some ideas for another body theme so that's a bonus. Yeah that's right mate. I guess we need to critique our own work in order to learn by our mistakes. That said, I have a habit of repeating mistakes. 🤣👍

Yeah, man, what a cool paint job, and of course thanks for the shout-out, Mick! I really like this method, I think I have paints for it, probably I'll be ordering a body for it pretty soon'ish... My biggest problem is my airbrush, it really doesn't have the power yours does. It's a way cheaper brand, but I still think it's about hitting the right viscosity/pressure ratio, I'll keep trying, he he... Yeah, for the Megadeth joke, I think that Candy yellow must have been pretty similar to Dave's hair colour!

G'day Mads! Thanks mate. No probs at all, I think the Lava idea might become a thing. At least for me anyway. 🙂 For the paint I think any airbrush setup should handle it. For the liquid mask, I thinned mine with about 20% water which I forgot to mention. You'll get there mate, like you said it's all about viscosity and pressure. 👍 Haha yeah, I have noticed Dave's YELLOW hair! 🤣👍

Thanks Ingrid! I'm not sure about that, I still see a lot of things I got wrong. The bad design in the beginning, the bad cutting of the lines... But, if it hits something hard enough none of that will matter! 😂🤣. Seriously though, thanks for the kind words.🙂 I think this new Lava Effect might become a thing, I already have ideas 😁

Haha. Yeah I think this one will stay looking good. It's kind of rare-ish now and it's part of the furniture since I've had it so long. Maybe this one and the cartoon body might never be fitted. I may hang em on a wall of fame (or shame) at some stage 😁. I'm recently acquired an RX8 body and a Skyline body. They could be ones to look out for very soon! 😁👍

Excellent job mate👍👍 , looks awesome😀 , when I don't have a chassis for body's I make a H shape frame from wood and a couple of small uprights to stand the body on and fix a set of wheels to it then I can put it on the shelf as a display piece 👍👍

G'day Mick!, That looks amazing!!!👌, we don't know how you come up with these idea's mate, very talented. We can't even work out how you even get all the finger prints etc off without leaving fine scratches on the body. Great job and thanks for sharing your video Mick👍🙋‍♀️🤠🦘🇦🇺

G'day mate! 👋. Thanks Wayne. I don't know either mate, I just tend to zone out for a while then an idea pops into my head. I'm sure it's quite nOrMal 😂. As for the finger prints, a lot are still there, but a microfibre cloth I find works best. A very soft one! I've noticed there are differences in quality in microfibre cloths, like everything I guess. Just try to find the softest one you can. Polycarbonate is always a scratch magnet so it'll never look the way it does when the film first comes off. Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video. 🙂👍

Same here mate. I bought a pack of 20 or 30 a few years ago for washing the car but they're all scratchy. I did find a soft one here and there though, maybe for glasses or TV screens but they seem hard to come by. Thanks mate! 👍

Oh wait, you were gonna pay, right? 😂 But sorry mate, at this point I really think I need to practice more. Maybe in the future I may paint bodies for others but for now I don't really have the confidence in my work to be doing it for others. 🙂👍
