As someone who worked professionally as a painter for several years, I would highly advise anyone who has never done a painting project such as this to avoid using a sprayer. It’s extremely difficult to account, not only for overspray that could mess up other stuff, but flow control and speed are a vital aspect to doing an excellent spray job. Go even a little too slow and you end up with too much product on whatever it is your spraying, the product runs, and you end up with thick raindrop looking globs of paint running down the side that then dry and need to be sanded off and redone completely. Move to fast and you end up with too thin of a coating that means you have to go back and spray on another coat. Most people starting out will find that ( even if they did it right) they will need to spray on a second coat in order to achieve even coverage. Spraying in the end uses up a larger amount of paint than rolling or brushing, but is the only way to get that sleek, untouched and perfect look. Brushing leaves strokes in the finish and rolling leaves a raised bumpy texture in the finish. Keep in mind of what you want, what you’re ok with, and finally what you’re skill level is actually at. And let me just finish by saying that most of my interior work was to go back and fix what home owners messed up on their own, thinking they could do it themselves. Respect painters. They are professional craftsman like anyone else.

Good advice! As with most things, it's an art to perfect, eh?
@willgraves5848
@willgraves5848 5 жыл бұрын
Meet Kevin Indeed! Let alone spraying, brushing and rolling take plenty of practice before you’re proficient enough to do a quality job without ruining the surrounding surfaces or your paint job. For anyone wanting to spray, a good place to start would be outside and on a fence. It’s outside and away from the house, and fences are much more forgiving than interior cabinets! Bring a brush with you when you go to spray and go back over what you spray with your brush to even out your coat as you lay your product down. This will keep your paint job looking even while giving you the feel for what working with a sprayer is like. In my honest opinion though, unless you’re going to redo all the enamel in your flip/rental or all the paint in general, only use a sprayer for exterior work. All the time and effort as well as masking materials for setting up for an interior job is just an unnecessary expense. Without masking and just using a drop cloth and some wet rags, I can do a paint job in a single room such as yours in two days all on my own. Learning how to do a clean cut-in on all the edges of what you’re painting will save you some serious time once you get better at it!

I hired a guy who has an auto painting spray area. He also does cabinets. He took all the doors and drawer fronts to his dustfree space and then reinstalled them. Also spray painted outside of cabinet boxes. Total 1500 versus 18000 ' refacing ' estimate. Not as cheap as Kevin's but still a good deal.

If you don't want to deal with dangerous ammonia (maybe you are chemically sensitive like I am) - you can get the same results with simple baking soda. Spread it liberally over the area you want to clean, spray it down until soaked with water, then let it sit overnight. It gets disgusting ovens looking brand-new, burnt pans squeaky clean, etc.

Hey! Low VOC paint spoils quickly. Just a heads up. Most paint lasts for 10-15 years as long as you store it in a place where your paint won't freeze. Also 1 gallon covers 400 sqft. (So like a 10ftx10ft room) So 5 gallons covers 2000 sqft. Source: I worked in paint department

Honestly that is so many cabinet doors and drawers oh, it's actually easier leaving in place. Everything has to be labeled if a label falls off your in trouble your painting both sides so how can you label them LOL and then you have to find room in the garage to stand them up! And then you got to be able to screw him back in properly after rehanging they need to be leveled again! Lots of work if you take them off
@SilverLiningDayDreams
@SilverLiningDayDreams 4 жыл бұрын
We suggest painting them in another out of the way room whether basement or in our case a 3 season porch away from the kitchen. Set up on tables & better to label the tabletop where you are painting. We allow way longer drying times than the manufacturer suggest and this way we can still use our kitchen to eat out of. It’s all in our video at silver lining day dreams. Yes it is extra work but well worth it to roll entire cabinet without hardware on as you get a better paint job in our opinion. Our Video is called painting kitchen cabinets white. Our channel is called Silver lining Day dreams

I use Purple Power to degrease cabinets. Also Meguiars Hot Rims All wheel cleaner. These 2 cleaners melt grease fast. No sanding is bullshit. Always at least sand lightly to make paint stick better. It doesn't take much time. I used Zinsser no sand primer on an area of cabinet I cleaned but didn't sand, and masking tape lifted some of the paint off. It passed the finger nail scratch test though.

This is one of the reasons why I'm buying a house after my lease is up. While kinda cool, I'm sick of renting "renovated" places where every cheap short-cut was taken to make it cosmetically pleasing. Then managment doesn't want to come fix anything when the cheap short-cuts go start going to crap. I'll admit the cabinets to look nice though.

Also, Lowe’s will price match. I just purchased a $2379 refrigerator by showing up in-store with internet print-outs showing that I could get the identical item from an online retailer for $1895. We bought our house for $455K well below market value because the house smelled and their wood floors were a scratched up mess. No one would buy it because they are afraid of hard work. We bought it, replaced the floors, got the carpets professionally cleaned and painted all over ourselves (an investment of about $30K because we chose porcelain tile snd Acacia wood. We did the wood install ourselves and got a super cheap contractor that our real estate agent recommended to do the tile). Now 4 years later our house is worth $700K.

I redid the bathroom downstairs in my parents house (currently live with my parents) cost around 800 for a total redo, new paint, hardware, vanity, faucet, toilet, bidet, floor, and I worked my butt off making sure everything was perfect and level, my sister and mother are extremely detail oriented and totally picked it apart, if they saw those cabinets they would've thrown them out :P jokes aside, if I could, I would have done these surface repairs for my own, the wear and tear on the bathroom had just gotten to a point where you have to replace the stuff. You can do the touch ups but you might as well do it once and do it right. In a rental I don't think i would have an issue doing what you did since I expect to do work every time a tenant moves out. Good stuff

Can you make a video of painting hacks? Wall painting and basic Maintenance hacks would be interesting to watch

Alot of this info is paint related which is why im letting you know. Try going into sherwin-williams and getting White pignented shellac primer. Make sure the number ends in 8150 not 8050, then tell the associate that you want them to match Lowes price and boom. You have an unbelieveable product at the same price. Seriously try it.

I think the products you recommended for the cabinets are really good, the grain barely shows through. Also, the mix of hardware styles helps give things a more designed look. Good job.

looks great, its also very easy to replace that bullnose white standard tile. I always like painted cabinets, pastel green or blue is nice, if worst comes to worst change counter to butcher block, DIY. 1 day job vs quartzgranite mess...of course dont forget to seal them

Honestly, buy a spray and air compressor is def worth it as you can use that anywhere and even if you don't need the stuff after you're done, just sell on kijiji/craigslist or whatever. I always did this and was cheaper than renting tools as I like to take my time on things.

Some thoughts: I prefer latex to oil-based primer and paint. Latex dries in a fraction of the time, has better elasticity and is less prone to fading. Plus, it is easier to apply and cleans up with water. Did you spray the cabinet doors in place? They are so easy to remove with those European hinges. Also, You've got a stainless fridge white appliances. I've been tempted to mix appliance colors with my rental properties as the white appliances age and fail, but have wondered wonder how it would be received. In the case of dishwashers, I've been going to black which seems to work pretty well. I love SS appliances but tenants always dent them. Next time you're shopping for hardware, check out ahturf.com. They have a spectacular selection at the best prices I've seen.

Dear Kevin, there is a few token people that I watch and I learn from. 1. Tony Robbins 2. Les Brown 3. Joel Osteen 4. Ryan Serhant 5. Arnold Schwarzenegger 6. Joe Rogan 7. Grant Cardone 8. and get ready for it......Wait for it...... Meet Kevin. You have made my list of go to people. Congrats my friend. BTW, you're too cool for school. You put a lot of effort, positive energy and in the end it shows that you really care about others. You have gained my trust no doubt. The videos are funny, very well done, humorous on many levels, ( You'd make it in Hollywood any day of the week ) and furthermore you give people ideas, your perspectives on others like Grant Cardone, Gary V. among other people that make sense and at times the very same "Gurus" try to confuse people and make no sense at all ( Perhaps because they are trying to make money working and yanking on people's emotions heart strings for financial gains ). I sincerely trust you and if I were in the Real Estate business, I would model every single thing you teach because the information you put out is not fake but rather genuine. Bottom line is that I wanted to thank you for being who you are and helping others achieve their goals and dreams. We all have to make money somehow and there are not too many people that spend time and energy spreading wealth of knowledge like you do Kev so I personally on this open platform am saying THANK YOU SIR!! Make it a great day and have a great weekend!!

Kevin, pro tip for the next time you have to address porcelain sinks: Scrub it down w/some CITRIC ACID (make a paste w/some water + some of the powder) and voilà: 10-15 mins later = NEW sink! (Same for toilet bowls.) No need to hire a "porcelain repair company" when you can do just that for a few bucks + a bit of elbow grease! That'd have saved you the $75 and brought down the total to

Well the knobs I will purchase for my clients were about five to six dollars a piece, did gold come with the knobs. I am not for sure that sealant is good for kitchen cabinets but I liked the repair of the sink and how you use that cleaner for the burners. But for the counter top I would had went with laminate or granite which I know a place that sells it for $300.00 - $400.00 a slab or Corian which comes with a life warranty.
@drippingwax

What would you do with an old laminate countertop? Do I have these steps right? 1. If you have a gas stove, remove your burner grates, etc., and soak them in a freezer bag and ammonia from a $1 bottle. 2. Mask the interior of your cabinets. 3. Get $7 bottle of TSP, $2 empty spray bottle, and [optionally] a $7 bottle of liquid sandpaper. Spray all of the cabinets, wipe off the TSP, spray the liquid sandpaper, and then wipe off that. 4. Sprayer Zinsser Cover Stain 5 gallons White High Hide Oil-Based Interior/Exterior Primer and Sealer. $140. 5. Twenty-four hours later, spray Behr alkyd semi-gloss enamel. The coventry grey worked great. Home Depot shows 5 gallons for $159. 6. New hardware for under $150 on sale. 7. Have someone repair the sink and tile, if necessary.
