@@LNH152 that’s a very valid question and my answer is I do try to make time to pamper myself but spending an absurd amount of time of my nails isn’t my priority. I can spend hours on skincare or even my hair but wouldn’t put a fraction amount of time on my nails, I just find the process tedious (the application and the removal)and a waste of time and money especially for something so minor I guess. I hope that answers your question.

It doesn’t work like that. It has to be constant buffing. As long ad you have a good aftercare routine after doing or removing nails it will be fine but it doesn’t take one set for your nails to break unless you have serious iron deficiency. That would have to be a trip to the GP

I also do my nails by myself. I recently tried gel nails and developed an allergy. I didn't know anything about gel allergies so I didn't take the nails off until it got really bad. I got rashes and my nails started to seperate from my nail beds. Now I'm scared of even doing my nails again. But I really like how stress free gel nails are. How did you get to continue using gel nails even after your allergy?

A lot of people tend to get their nails done at a professional nail tech, but when it’s past 3 weeks some people decide to remove their acrylic or yank them off, not properly removing them. If you don’t properly remove them they will get weaker.

bc drilling that close down to the natural nail is really sketch and pretty much every time you’re gonna drill your actual nail without even realizing it. if you’re moisturizing your nail with oil after using acetone it’s not damaging

If you drill or file too much you may be filing your natural nail and not know which can make them thin.

You have to be really good if you’re able to file off everything with a drill. You risk overfilling your nail beds and getting rings of fire, which hurt, or you damage the nail plate. It’s better to soak off the base coat.

@@kayliboyleI’ve been doing it this way for about 2 years, but the drill bit that you use really can be dangerous since it’s got a sharp edge, I recommend using the other type that is called “pine” or “corn” that has smaller, more rounded and less sharp end, it’s so much more convenient really

U can use a nail filer but it's harder

If its just gel polish on your natural nail, soak cotton pad with 100% acetone, put it on your nail and wrap with aluminum foil. Let it sit for 30 minutes. If there are thick chunks that wont come off easy, just keep soaking. This will minimize damage. Hydrate your nail with lots of oils right after. TIP: skip that nasty nail dehydrator and use VitaGel as base coat. I wanted to do my nails but I'm also trying to let them grow long and healthy and that's what I did. My nails had no damage and I was able to enjoy a cute, long lasting mani!

@@astridrosa9477 please don’t recommend things you know nothing about. First of all 30 mins is too long to leave acetone on. You’ll end up drying your skin terribly or getting an allergy/chemical burn. 10-15 mins is the recommended time for a soak off. Secondly gel polish can’t be soaked off like regular polish. Gel top coat is an extremely strong material so you need to file that layer off before applying acetone. Please change your technique.

​​@@astridrosa9477 She was wrong tho, there are 2 types of gel: first is usually called hard gel-thats the one you cant soak off with acetone, it has to be filed, and the second one is usually called soft gel or "soak off gel", as the name sugest-it is a chore, but it can be removed with acetone and it usually says so on the bottle. You absolutely CAN soak off gel nails, you just have to buy the right formula. Been doing it for 2 years at home, they last until i decide to take them off (curtesy of good prep and good quality gel). I file down the majority of the gel with the nail drill to save time, then go on and soak them, but if i wanted to waste time, i could absolutely soak from the start and it would melt off. The audacity and preaching is over the top in this comment section, i swear. 😅

Skip the nail dehydrator and use VitaGel as basecoat!! Same thing happened to me but i tried again doing this and there was no damage whatsoever. Just be gentle when taking it off! (Soak in 100% acetone for 30 minutes) then scrape GENTLY. If it dont come off easy, keep soaking!! Lots of hydration (oils) right after!

you don’t actually have to file through all the gel! in fact, it’s better that you don’t since it’s easy to file too much and damage your natural nail. you only need to file through the shiny top coat, but the acetone will work quicker if you have less gel to soak through. typically, if you have a coat of full color on top of your base gel, i’d recommend to stop filing as soon as the color is filed off.

It won't destroy your nail if you know what you're doing. The most damaging thing may be taking them off (for example in this video she's buffing her nail again after dissolving the gel and it may thin the nail too much). But if you had a lot of practice and learn proper techniques, nothing bad is gonna happen
