I took a couple of bags of clothes to the charity shop last week. My husband and I get rid of things regularly, and try to add fewer things to our lives than we take away. So glad he's in agreement with me!

I retired just after the new year after working approx 60 hrs per week for ages. I've been spending a few hours a day, decluttering different areas & categories of decades of accumulation 📦. Also playing catch-up on cleaning & maintenance, evaluating my expenses and planning for a fun retirement. I'm kind of resetting the rest of my life and even tho it is sometimes overwhelming, I am excited about the benefits!

I love the idea of putting clothes away that are not appropriate for the season! I use to think its was "non-minamilistic" to even have enough clothes to put away each season in storage, but it's smart. Because when you do pull those clothes out again, you'll have a fresh feeling wardrobe!

I like to use the lowest drawer as storage. It's not needed for anything else and I can very quickly get to it if needed. I used to put stuff in the basement but I find this more practical, cause I will forget what I don't see in a while. 🙈

It’s obvious you have been doing consistent decluttering and your work has paid off so much. I wish I could declutter in 4 days. It’s a great goal to set. I do have 2 teens and am much older- having accumulated a lot over the years. I never seem to get rid of enough! But if one starts young then decluttering will always be easy as one doesn’t accumulate as much in the first place. Your advice is always very practical and it’s a pleasure to watch your journey.

Def no pressure to declutter in 4 days! It’s more of a mini reset in each area. Like in the kitchen I only got rid of 5 things, desk a few things, closet the same. It takes time and slower is better imo! ❤️❤️

A water pipe on the second floor of our house burst last month. We had a power outage and the pipe froze in the cold. My house is a mess as repairs are moving at a snail’s pace. Luckily, we didn’t lose anything sentimental. I am using this as an opportunity to look at everything we had to move out of the way to decide if I want to put it back when this is all over. Am finding lots of things we forgot we even owned. Finding a silver lining….

I dropped off a couple large shopping bags to a donation bin last week and 3 days ago, I saw a friend wearing their new outfit of the clothes I donated. She looked awesome and I was happy to see the clothes being utilized better than I was able to do. My next challenge is to declutter my basement to make some sort of rec room space for the teenagers that regularly occupy my living room.

I don't know if this is just me but while everyone else is decluttering and using the new year to 'restart', I tend to become overwhelmed. As a student, the new year is a rather busy time as I'm just getting back into my groove after the holidays (which tends to take longer than it should). This is why I tend to prefer the transition between winter and spring over the new year, to take the time to reset. During this time, I am finishing up with school (in my final year of uni!). And you bet I'll be re-watching this video when that time comes! Thanks for the information, even though I will apply it down the road of 2023.

I love a good reset day! I try to do a mini rest every Sunday where I do laundry, cleaning, etc. so that it gets me prepped for the week ahead and keeps things more manageable for when I do a big deep clean/declutter. Also, I have this weird thing where I also do a mini self-care every week after my mini declutter where I do a facemask, shave my legs, wash my hair (bc yes, I'm that weird person who has a hair washing schedule lol), etc. It's so satisfying to get into clean sheets, when you're clean, and stare into a clean room at the end of the day haha 😅

I had an Instant Pot that I hadn’t used in a couple years either. I pulled it out over winter break and as a last ditch effort before donating cooked a meal in it. Fast forward a month and I use it once or twice a week now. The trick is a good recipe book. I like Skinny Taste one & done and The Ultimate IP Cookbook by Coco Morante. Just made chicken tortilla soup last night in it and so good.

I do the same with my wardrobe and let things rest so I long for them. I do this in colours so certain colours are for spring others for summer and yet som for autumn and then some just for winter. Black & white are always in the wardrobe but some are very much summer other very much winter. It means I always have things in waiting to be enjoyed by me. 🤗

I want to continue to declutter and have an idea of more clothes that can go. I’m just not sure if I can tackle the whole house though. I can say doing the no buy January with the exception of a few items here and there it’s felt a lot less overwhelming dealing with stuff. It’s a relief not having more items coming in everyday. I’m fact, aside from a couple of items this month I haven’t had any new deliveries since Christmas time. It feels so terrific! Thanks Christina for the inspiration. ❤😊

We decluttered many bags of clothes, toys and miscellaneous items before Christmas. Our motto is to let out items before we let more in, and not the other way around (what we used to do). But our main objective this year is to be more of our authentic selves, and not being pressured to be anyone else. Just say no. This includes family!

I’m hoping to spend the whole of this coming year decluttering, being more intentional with purchases and reorganising. Having rushed decluttering and then regretted the loss of certain items I’m in no rush so have set myself the whole year to take my time to really be sure in my decision before I part with anything :) Plus how can I effectively decluttering summer items in winter? Answer - you can’t haha

@@katejohnson5083 certain items of clothing I thought I didn’t want but have had to repurchase (plain T-shirts), sentimental clothing items given to me by relatives now deceased. I'm waiting to declutter my closet until spring, just to make sure I get rid of everything I have not worn in the colder months. I made the mistake of starting too early last year and kept stuff I have yet to put on, because I "might" still wear it. I did my kitchen last weekend, so at least that is done. 📦
