I had one on my cr 250 looking tired my dad did the same it was a pro circuit pipe, he removed the dents and tab off painted it black polished the tab up and re welded it on it popped.

Really great job of getting the old pipe functional. Did you burn the carbon/oil out of the inside of the pipe? I've done it before on a BBQ grill and air compressor. Once the carbon gets red hot all you have to do is hit it with the compressed air to keep the carbon burning. We used to clean diesel ports that way.

Thanks Tom, I used a combination of burning it out with Mapp Gas and grinding out the remnants with the frayed wire cable. If I had open space and a grill I would have used your method.

@@madmarc When that oil/carbon burn it makes one hell of a stink but it does get it clean. If you have neighbors close they may run you out of the neighborhood!. LOL

Another great video. I have a question can you restore a nickle plated chrome pipe in this same way minus the weld coloring? If you were to take a dremel ans wire wheel to it will it remove the plating or just the crud on the pipe?

It won't remove the nickel, but it's an arduous process. If you can find someone to sand blast it for you for a good price I would go that route. Especially around the neck of the pipe, which is the most difficult part to clean.

Thanks dude, I lathered it in WD-40 which helps, and you have to keep applying it after every wash so it's kinda high maintenance. Not sure if there's a better way...

@@madmarc Cerakote produces some very high Q / relatively low effort durable finishes including air-cure. Dont recall off hand if they have a high temp clear but have a look and I think you will be resto effort will be rewarded long term. Superb effort and no vapor - media blast, wow. Best,

What kind of torch do you use to give it that blue hue?

Propane. I tried it first with Mapp Gas but the flame is too large and hot, so it's imprecise.

@@Castillo250 sure, you could do it with any exhaust. Heating any bare metal surface will give you the same result
