Let me show you how I set up my preamp, dynamics and EQ for professional voice over work with the awesome MT-48. It's very easy to use and you don't have to do much, if at all, to get a killer sound. And as always, feel free to experiment and adjust to fit your liking and your space. Make it your sound. Make it sound great.

I love how simple, yet entirely effective everything is on the MT-48. You don't have to do much to get a great sound.

Wow Mark, you certainly have a good set of ears. I realize that when you are going for dynamic control you have to use your ears and not the meters. I am from the analog world and the analog circuitry including transformers tends to take of the edges of the transients. You are dialing in dynamics as a subtle sonic tool rather than for mojo or color. At first I was way to heavy handed with the dynamics as I was hearing distortion even though there was no obvious clipping. I copied your settings and, bingo. The gate is stellar. Again, thanks for sharing your pearls for operating the MT48

Thanks for the video, great information. I really appreciate you making this. I’m very happy with mine, the only thing is I have a much noisier environment than you and I do t control my breath as well as you do either, so the settings on the gate are not cutting out my background noise and breaths, how would I go about getting the gate to cut more of that out, I tried adjusting the threshold and that didn’t work, so I’ve been using the Reaper gate that I’ve always used, but the settings in there don’t seem to translate to the MT 48 gate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks brother!

There’s only so much a gate can do and it can’t always fix your room. You can tighten up the release but often it sounds unnatural. You may either want to try a noise removal software like Hush or Cvox to help with the noise tails though. Beyond that, it would be a factor of adding more treatment to your recording space.

@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff hi Mark, thanks for your reply and advice. The thing is the Reaper noise gate works perfectly with no issues, I was hoping to duplicate that with the MT 48, but I guess maybe it doesn’t work the same. It’s probably more of removing my breath sound than anything else. The 80hz rolloff removes everything else pretty much.

Any idea what the FINE PRECISION setting on the mt48 does? I do not see this expained in the manual?

Hey Mark, just wanted to say I love your video presentations. MT48 sounds great!!! Actually, you sound awesome with or without it, but with MT48 there is actually a noticeable increase in sound quality! I decided to switch from my UAD Apollo Twin without even trying it out first. I have a question about routing for Live VO sessions. Have you figured out how to set up routing on the MT48 to play both voice and DAW without having loopback with the clients? Thanks!
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff 15 күн бұрын
Wow, thanks! Congrats on your MT-48. What I do is go to Bus Routing and make sure Mix 2 is set up for Line Out and then just connect a 2nd interface (Audient Evo 4) via a pair of cables and the Audient 4 is my audio out to the client via Zoom, etc. Then I just mute or unmute in Mix 2 what the client needs to hear while I continue to keep my own personal mix in Mix 3, which goes to my headphones. The MT-48 does have a steep learning curve, and there may be a better way to do it, but dumping my send to the receiver of the call/video conference, etc to a 2nd cheap interface has been the way I've done it for a long time.

Are you feeling comfortable enough with the gate to not use C-Vox on the back end?
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Жыл бұрын
For the most part, yes. The TLM-67 is a quiet mic so it’s less prone to obvious noise tails than the u89. I’m still leaving the gate loose though with a bit of noise removal in the render. The amount of noise though from the gate tails is so minimal you could clean it up with pretty much any noise removal like Bertom Denoise or Izotope elements.

As you adjust gate you mention “tails”. I don’t understand this concept. Thanks.
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Жыл бұрын
If your gate release isn’t quick enough you gear noise tails at the end of your sentences as the gate closes. Sometimes when you tighten up the release, it cuts off in a way that seems unnnatural, so I like to leave the gate a bit loose and let Cvox kill the tails when I render the track from Reaper.

Hi, running into a bit of an issue with my interface since I’m not experienced with interfaces in general. I am using this interface on Audacity and I can't seem to get the EQ and reverb etc to record on my audio program. As in, I can adjust and hear my adjustments by speaking into the microphone connected to the interface, but when I record, I do not hear any change, including reverb. I did turn on analog post FX and Optical Post FX, but still do not hear any change. I can hear myself through mic 1 and can hear activity on the computer through DAW 2. You did mention that post effects would come out in line 13-16, and I’m starting to wonder if that isn’t something Audacity can choose. Should I work with the Apollo interface instead?
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff 11 ай бұрын
Post FX may come out on yours depending upon how you have your outputs set up and which ones you have switched on. My output configuration may be different from yours. Refer to and study your manual. What I have on display is how I set mine up for my particular use case.

Dude.....love your channel first off. Thank you for what you do. Now - there is one little itty bitty thing that bothers me about a superior device that is basically $1900 dollars........HOW IN GODS NAME CAN YOU NOT HAVE A LOOPBACK FEATURE.......SERIOUSLY? If i was to buy this I would whine about the lack of a loopback feature & my wife would kill me for wasting money on a device i complain about. Put in the de-esser you said they might add then OK.......fine.........maybe.......but until then.......NAH......

Thank you! There is. You can assign up to 4 different stereo pairs to your computer output, your daw, etc. And either just monitor or record those inputs/outputs as you wish. For example, I have my computer audio output, Reaper, Twisted Wave and MainStage outputs set up to return into the MT48.
