First, the kneeler is amazing. What a treasure you found, and now that older lady is part of your journey! It's very interesting to listen to you. I converted many years ago and you are reminding me just how it felt to take those first steps into the Catholic world. Somewhat hesitant, somewhat excited, like that moment right before you jump into a swimming pool for the first time in the summer. You stick your toe in, the water is cold, but you really want to swim so you stand there at the edge of that beautiful clear pool and just take a deep breath and prepare to jump. To finish the analogy - the water is awesome friend, jump on in! I too was very hesitant about Mary (and the saints). In my experience, protestants are taught that Mary can be seen at Christmas and that's it! But you can never love her more than Jesus does!! I remember how strange it seemed to me to see statues of her in churches, it seemed idolatrous. Now if I am visiting a Catholic Church and I don't see a statue of her, I realize it's probably not the type of parish I am going to like lol. I never used to have any type of crucifix, icon, sacred art in my home and definitely no statues. Now my home would feel empty without them. My point is this, you are just beginning and I appreciate you sharing your journey. I see your excitement and hesitation battling each other. It's all part of it. Your mind has decided but your heart is waiting for some big "aha" moment. You might not have a big "aha" moment; God may be asking you to step out in faith and follow Him without that big, emotional, mystical experience. That's honestly how most people will experience conversion; one small step of faith at a time without a huge mystical moment. "You have believed because you have seen me. Blessed are those who have not seen me and believe." (John 20:29). Just a thought to ponder and to encourage you to keep going. I can't recall if you are going to Mass or not. If you are not, what are you waiting for? That is where you will really encounter Christ the way Catholics do; present in Eucharist. Even though you cannot yet receive Him in the Eucharist, you will receive grace simply by reverently attending the Mass. Please, please, find a traditional leaning parish. If you walk in and it looks like a protestant church, you probably ought to keep looking lol. Also, I think I recall that your wife is not 100% on board yet. That's ok too. She will see you seeking the Lord and that is beautiful. My husband was the cradle Catholic and I was the protestant wife. It didn't take me long to get on board once I opened my eyes to the history of the Church. Mother Angelica, "Called to Communion" and "The Journey Home" are all great programs to help you. God bless you and your family.

I’m glad I found your channel. I am on this journey as well. 6 months ago I had a conversion experience around Christmas, while listening to a sermon I felt emotionally overcome and suddenly felt I understood mysteries of Christianity. After 20 years of practicing Buddhism and meditation, I am now working on reconciling with God, consecrating to Mary, and following the path of Divine Mercy. I’m still apprehensive though about engaging with a parish.

I don't see a teddy bear in normal Catholic altars. The rest are fine. You could add a rosary, bible and one or two candles.

I think the backstory of the bear is enough of an exception in this case, although normally yes, it would be abnormal for something like that to be in a Catholic home altar.

Blessed be God for ever! What a beautiful alter to pray and be one with our Lord. During life's challenges, it's nice to pray and weep or even share your gratitude with such reverence. As for the teddy bear, let it be a reminder of life is short and to pray for the repose souls of family, friends and strangers in purgatory. Remember heart centered experiences are fleeting; this is this worlds illusion. So your joy and following the 10 commandments.... in the Lord is sufficient. ❤

I think you did a great job. I want to create an alter/prayer space as well. I don’t have Catholic items, even though I’m Catholic. My rosary beads and my Miraculous Medal is all. I’ll have to search for something. Great videos Nate. I appreciate you sharing them with us. 😊

The kneeler is such a treasure! Yes, the teddy isn't the ordinary thing but I think that as it represents your journey in makes perfect sense. The point of a home altar is to be a center of prayer. It does not have the same character as an altar in church which is there to facilitate the unbloody sacrifice of the mass and link us to Christ's sacrifice. Therefore those items which help bring you into His presents are just fine. My children used to draw "pictures for Jesus" and stick them on the wall of our altar. I believe that Our Lord loved that more that our nice candle sticks, etc. They were brought there w/ purity of intention and love. I would recommend getting a blessed candle for your altar ... too many Scripture passages to mention but definitely a good idea. If you haven't already get the crucifix blessed when you can. It is amazing beautiful by the way! God bless you on your way! Look forward to more videos.

I think your simple little altar is beautiful. I really need to set one up. I have a sort of prayer shelf with some pictures, a Bible, the Catechism, and some other religious books, but it's not really an altar.

It's going to be beautiful, and I hope it brings you much peace and prayer. When I read the Early Church Fathers, I realize how the Apostles would recognize our Catholic Mass, relics, incense, etc. etc. The History is beautiful; the practice of our Faith is also so beautiful. Prayers for your discernment into the Catholic Church! God Bless You! Will you be observing Lent, coming next Wednesday? Just curious!

Oh ! Wait a minute ! Wait a minute ! Im sorry I made my comment on the Teddy bear. BEFORE hearing the story of the bear ! The story of the bear changed everything ! But if I may suggest something , maybe it would be best if you could place the Bear.on a lower place and not close to the Holy images ? Its good to keep the bear close though that way you could remember your friend everytime you pray !

It's nice to have an altar, a special place to pray and give honor to Jesus. As you grow in the knowledge of God, your altar will change and be more centered on God. A couple items you may want to add now are blessed candles, (Christ is the Light of the world), a small bottle of Holy Water (to bless yourself before praying and it also makes the devil flee), a Rosary which has been blessed by a priest. You don't have to be Catholic to have items blessed, a priest will help you to make your journey to God more fruitful.

Hello, I’m Catholic and have a non-denominational Christian friend who stresses the importance of being baptised with the Holy Spirit, or “born again”, as I think it is likewise referred to. When I bring up the Sacrament of Confirmation as proof of my being established in the Spirit, as taught to me by the Church, this person asserts that there is a significant distinction between the two rites. As you have a background similar to this friend, I was wondering what your take on this might be? I do realise the relationship most Catholics have with the Holy Spirit seems to differ noticeably from the relationship certain other Christians share with Him. Do you also have any thoughts on why?
@helenbond8893

Hi, Iam a priest in training in the Anglican church but also a member of the Catholic Marists. Confirmation would be considered a public decleration of a persons intention to follow Christ, but not proof of their infillinf of the Holy Spirit. Scripture states that proof of the Holy Spirits indwelling is seen by a person exhibiting the fruits of the Holy Spirit in their daily life as stated in the book of Galations. Hope this helps, Many blessing to you x

Nearly everything is fine and probably will evolve, but please remove that kind of incense from your altar asap. Some of the incense stuff have an occult symbolic etc. attached that you should have at your prayer corner. Try to find a catholic incense burner instead. Maybe the process of finding one also will help you get in contact with a few nice helpful souls.

With all respects , we dont add teddy bears to Catholic altars . when we were kids , and made an altar for the baby Jesús ,during Christmas we would add toys as gifts to the Holy Infant , But that was just something we did maybe other Catholics did this too ? normally we just add maybe a pretty. small table cloth or a table runner, of course the Holy images , flowers, candles and our rosaries. You could also add maybe a couple of porcelain angels and / or stars too .just to embellish it. Thank you for sharing your altar with us . its very nice ! 😁🌸

on a personal alter, what is appropriate is down to the individual. There is a very important backstory as to why the teddy is important to him, which makes the teddy one of the most meaningfull and appropriate items on his alter

Esse Oratório está errado, o genuflexório é incrível, mas no Oratório devem estar apenas Jesus Cristo , Maria Santíssima, os Apóstolos e os Santos. Cinzas de entes queridos e outros artefatos que lembram falecidos não! 🇧🇷

I agree with the others; the kneeler is amazing. I wanted to wish you well on your journey and to suggest that you speak with a priest to help you set up a Catholic altar. What you have here is a Protestant altar, not a Catholic one - other than the kneeler, there's nothing Catholic about it and has new age elements. These are forbidden to us as Catholics. I wanted to let you know, not to be unpleasant. Good luck!

You need to go to traditional Latin mass then your altar will be way different. Get rid of the teddy bear and incense. Get real bee wax candles that are blessed by a traditional priest get a sacred heart of Jesus and the immaculate heart of our lady and an image of saint Gabriel arcangel. That’s all you need and the kneeler you already got it. Look for the traditional Latin mass don’t go to the novus ordo other wise you will feel like never left your Protestant church
