These are so useful because your thought process is more important than what you actually bought. It's a reminder to buy with consideration - I like to think of it as shopping like a museum collector or curator of nice things in the boutique of MY life... and that sometimes includes fun, not over-thought decisions.

Your ability to save money... instead of spending it on multiple, ultimately unfulfilling makeup items, as you once did... has enabled you to purchase your unicorn jeans even though they happened to be pricey!! What a tremendous reward after all your efforts to change your spending habits! Occasionally, expensive items are worth their price points if they promise to bring us long term satisfaction. Most of us can only afford these expensive unicorn items without negative consequences if we've managed our spending behavior ahead of time. But you did it! Yaaaaay for you!!! 🦋🧡🦋

Highly recommend incorporating a tailor to help with the quest for more perfect jeans! I had the same issue and am now so happy to have more options where I can fit for my rump and legs and have them tailored at the waist. I can buy good quality but not too expensive jeans and with a tailor they look like they were made for me! My tailor and my cobbler are my best fashion friends 💪

Babaa frustrates me with their sizing. It’s disheartening when you feel like you’re excluded from buying certain clothes because you aren’t small enough. They should have more than a one size fits all

You are right on target with a true straight leg jean. Hard to find but flattering on most people but especially those of us with small waist and wider hips. I'm always on the look out for this style. My motto has always been "wait a day" so this worked perfectly for you.

I just had the same experience with the abercrombie curve love jeans! They have a wider hip to waist ratio and finally I have jeans that fit my waist, butt AND legs. It's a Christmas miracle

I'm glad to hear you found the jeans of your dreams! My husband is usually quite frugal but has a pair of $700 RM Williams (the quintessential work shoe lots of people wear in Australia) but cost per wear they're probably down to 20 cent per wear!

Also I wanted to say that I'm really happy for you because I feel like your budgeting is actually making you live more of your fantasy life, wearing nice quality, expensive sweaters, jeans and dresses than before your no buy year when you were essentially spending more money but it was going towards expensive skincare that was getting used up very quickly.... You have inspired me so much. I feel like it might be useful to have a check in for the sweater and jeans after a year to see how they've held up or if your thoughts are the same. I grew up really poor so it's hard for me to trust that there are actual pieces of clothing that can last for many years.

Yesterday I was out in London and wore a Windsmoor bolero jacket I'd in my twenties added a press stud to in order to wear as a top, a cashmere John Lewis jumper I've had about six years, a pair of AG jeans about two, a chunky handmade vintage bag which was old when my mother used it in teh eighties (my cobbler switched in a vintage belt strap for me when the original woven one died) and a pair of geox leather ankle boots I've had about three years. I look after my clothes quite well but do wear my jeans and boots pretty hard and regularly wear those out, I've yet to wear out a cashmere jumper. All items were originally purchased by me (or in the case of the bag, my mum) second hand in charity shops. I promise clothes can last.

I will spend a lot on jeans and bras! I have a 36” inseam and I am curvy. Also I am chestier than a woman my size has a right to be. My daughter refers to me as “dumb thick” whatever that means to a 19 year old. A great pair of jeans and a well structured bra can make a $20 top look fierce. Also the bra is crucial to saving my back and preventing chafing.

I haven’t bought any clothes in about two years, and even when I was buying clothes then, getting clothes with high quality fabrics that are ethically made is super expensive (especially for a tall plus size person like myself). The benefit is that they last so much longer than cheaper clothes. Most cheaper fabrics also irritate my super sensitive skin.

i wear a 30 dollar pair from target daily & only have 300 in my bank account rn so the denim excursion story made me pause watercolor painting, audibly gasp, slack jawed, and stare at the screen not even perceiving reality for a bit. i came back to my senses, and then saw the baaabaaa sweater 500ish dollar outfit and got taken out again. i'm so glad there was a book section lmao i recently downloaded a Richard Wilbur collection as per your recommendation! zlib has made reading accessible again in an age where i can't spend hours physically in one, it's been so nice to find jewels like him! it has pushed my own writing to stimulate more visuals instead of pure raw emotion. if you haven't gone through life of pi before, please make time this year! i can't recommend it enough. the movie is great too, but only after one has read the book to understand the nuance within the original phrasing. i've read it twice and a third is on the way~

Do you get your clothing tailored? I think one great way to make sure that pants and especially jeans fit is to have someone who you trust to take them in. I also get the frustration when it comes to finding the “perfect pair of jeans” and am happy that you found yours. I personally couldn’t imagine spending that much on a pair, partly because of my budget but mainly because as a person with thicker thighs the jeans in my closet have an expiration date. So if you want to find another pair, maybe because you have to, I think it would be helpful to take them to a seamstress. Maybe even taking this specific pair could be helpful because a tailor could help you to identify what exactly sets this pair apart (or maybe even take a pattern of it and make you another pair)!

$300 for jeans when it's hard for you to find the right jeans sounds good to me. It's harder for me to find shoes that work for me, so I will pay a lot for them if I must, but usually it isn't a lot. Maybe $70 something the most, but if a pair was like $100 or so then I would pay the price. And I love that case for your jewelry. I don't need one, but if I did I'd come back and look up this video so I could buy one for myself.

I think it’s wonderful that you found your perfect jeans and yes they were eye watering costly, but if you think about the cost per wear, you’ve probably got the value back by now. I have to say I can 💯 completely relate to the idea of “I’m not a person who spends $300 on jeans!” And then, very similarly, I actually tried on a pair of very expensive jeans and was like “Omg, this is what perfect jeans look like!” I got my first pair of “luxury” jeans on a major (40% off) sale at $120. Since then I’ve done the same a few times, I have a store near where I live that carry’s high quality denim & every once in awhile I’ll go peruse the sale rack, or go in specifically during a sale period. They are def worth the investment.

Hannah, I just recently found your channel on YT and love the content you put out. I have wanted the Slvrlake London Crop (I’m short) jeans and couldn’t justify spending that kind of money on jeans, so I went ahead and bought two other jeans that were cheaper but not exactly the look I was looking for. Your videos have made me realize it’s better to buy once and right and that will save you money in the long run. Going to do an intentional buying year in 2022 based on my budget and really save for the spendy things I want but that I know will keep for a long time and are exactly what I’m looking for. yes, I thought about this when I was editing, I should have mentioned it in the video! I'm undecided about selling my Agolde jeans. I still love the fit, but the knees have gotten so completely blown out that they only work in certain situations (both fashion-wise and weather-wise). Like, they are gaping open from mid-thigh to mid-calf on both legs. Before I bought these slvrlake jeans, I was considering eventually supplementing the Agolde 90's jeans with another pair in the same style that isn't distressed, but of course now I don't need to. If I do sell the Agoldes it will mostly be to help make up the cost of these new jeans, but I could also see myself keeping them for future occasions on which I want to look fierce in jeans but don't want to worry about ruining my slvrlake pair.

i am obsessed with your jeans purchase. i have kind of given up finding my perfect pair both for fit and monetary reasons. but as a short and stout gnc person the idea of a high waisted relaxed jean sounds like the same dream that i have had for years and not yet managed to find. bold of you to assume to get critique for it because that seems like a perfect investment also the whole washed out muted colour scheme of the whole video (makeup, sweater, background, hair - it all blends seamlessly) is absolutely stunning

I just discovered your channel yesterday via the Wet Look Eyeshadows video (*drool* lol.) I am already head over heels in love with your mindset around beautiful things. I love beautiful things too, but I've found myself in a bit of a rut lately. Nothing beauty related has sparked that glimmer in my eye the past few months. I also love when jrsns,or any pants really, hang just a little. I only liked that tighter look in the 80s when I was in my 20s and regret it still!!! I like that you made sure you really loved them on you, I do that now also. AND I don't deny myself,unless I really cannot afford it,my choices are now well thought out, life changing.

I had the exact same experience with jeans this past year. It was so defeating never finding a pair of jeans that actually fit my body and eventually I decided that if I was going to invest in any item of clothing for me it should be jeans, so I widened my budget and like you finally found a pair that fit me at a bit less than $300 and truly have not regretted it since, I know I have already worn them enough for my moneys worth! It felt like a maturing moment to realize that spending more money on the perfect item is better than less money on way too many thing that aren’t right.

I'm really glad you found the perfect pair of jeans for you! If I may give you an advice don't sell the other pairs or if you do buy the same slvrlake jeans with the money because in my experience the pair of jeans that I love and wear all the time always get a hole at some point even the one that are very stiff and 100% cotton. It's just my experience with every jean. I was never able to keep a pair I wear all the time more than three years without getting some kind of wear and tear that makes them unwearable. So I came to the conclusion that forever jeans don't exist for me and I buy less expensive ones because I see them like a perishable good that will go bad at some point (like makeup) and I'll have to buy other ones even if my style hasn't changed and I still love them. But maybe it's because of the shape of my thighs.

PD James is excellent! You might enjoy Tana French - darker though so it depends if you prefer your mysteries more light-hearted 😊 Congratulations on your jeans! I have the same problem with proportions and also struggle to buy dresses - my perfect jeans are a mid-rise (I also have a short lower torso and a long thigh) straight leg trouser that happens to be made of denim - one day I’ll find them!

I hate libraries! LOVE books! I guess I'm like Stephen King. Love the way they smell, look & feel. I am an avid reader. Can read a book and it could be returned. Libraries don't smell good to me. They are dirty and full of germs. Like money, you never know who or what touched them. And they are spooky. At least to me. I suffer from "the shopping habit". Only now it is a full blown addiction! No coincidence that I happened upon your channel. You give me hope and inspiration! I don't know if I could do a year, but I believe I can do 1 month, 1 day at a time. Anyway, new books would be replenishing like things I run out of. Thank you Hannah! You're not like other channels. I think that's why I like you so much!

Finding a good pair of jeans that fit properly is life changing. Ive struggled with denim my whole life. I remember being in high school and my mom splurged and got my jeans at Abercombie and Fitch because they actually fit me. These days i appreciate good denim and love a select few from Madewell. It pains me to spend over $100 on jeans, but ill continue to do it for when i need new ones.

Lol Kerry Greenwood was a regular customer of mine years ago when I was working hospo as well as other work and she is as delightfully fun and eccentric irl as she comes across in interviews and in the written word. She marches to the beat of her own drum and is incredibly naughty. Such a treasure! I always read her novels in her voice, which adds to them for me 😁 It can be so weird when worlds collide but it is such a reminder that we all live in community all the time

Well made jeans are SO worth the investment. I used to solely buy Old Navy and Gap jeans because I’m tall but they would wear out in a year or less. One day I decided to try Lucky Jeans on a whim when I found out they had the length I needed and was shocked at how well they fit for my measurements and how sturdy they seemed. I’ve had the same pair of Lucky Jeans for 7 years now - best investment I ever made in clothes - worth every cent!

These jeans sound like the ultimate fewer nicer things purchase, congratulations on finding the perfect pair! I was wondering, do jeans really last forever for you? The really, really don't for me, for some reason they always rip and tear in the thigh/butt area after a year or so. This means that for me jeans are more of a purchase that I know needs replacement, which keeps me from spending a premium amount on a perfect unicorn pair that fits my small waist and big hips.
