Take the french braid for example, it's just a bigger version of cornrows. Cultural appropriation isn't appreciation. It's less about sharing culture and more about a more powerful group getting a "free pass" to wear certain clothes, hair styles etc while a minority gets discriminated because of it. Normalizing braids for white people in America isn't the same as normalizing it for black people. It's a sad but true fact of the American psyche. Just Google the crown act and the many dehumanizing things that happen to black people because of their hair. Most of these things simply don't happen to white people in the same position.

I’ve seen the video that you mention. Wasn’t it posted by PragerU? If it was, that guy was more than just a KZfaqr. He was a conservative troll trying to provoke peoples’ reactions. I’m Scandinavian mixed with Asian and the Scandinavians also have a lot of braids in their culture. I think Native American culture is big on braids too now that I think of it.

It's hard, I just had a bad gym experience because of the trainer there, I didn't went back and mourn the loss as the people there were all my age and really easy to get along with and made going to the gym less exhausting.

@@arf6899 I had the same thing happen with a personal trainer at the gym I was going to. I just made a complaint with the manager and went back after a month or two of a break. Just get back in there and do your own thing.

@@NicoDoesLP And this is the problem today, it seems many people are being taught that if you aren't part of a culture, to do anything of another culture is stealing their identity. If you go read through the comments, its fucked. It seems most of it comes from people who are descended from a culture but aren't from that culture but trying to identify with it and feel like others enjoying the culture is offensive. Whenever I've seen a person from the actual culture being asked they all seem to think it is great.

I really thought it's said she felt the need to apologize but that's the times we live in... I grew up in the 90's and had my hair till below my butt. Obviously as a small child I wasn't able to take care of my hair on my own so whenever we went to a camp for like a week my mum used to do some conrows for the top part ending it in boxbraids and I always felt so special cause it took forever and I always looked forward to not having to do anything with my hair for the full week and ending it in beautiful waves the day we opened them. We had only one mixed kid in our class (otherwise only foreigners were like italians and turks) and I literally didn't even know what the difference of ethnicities was at this point. I just knew she was nice to me and had "a very strong tan" all year around 😂

And almost every race had braids of some sort, so I don’t know what she’s even on about that. Look at pre-Christian Europe and you’ll find dreads among Celts and Germans.

Braids aren’t African culture, distinct and separate societies all over the world throughout time have worn braids. This archaic mentality has to stop. Y’all are perpetuating segregation and harmful stereotypes.
