It isn't necessarily guaranteed to work as well for you, but the principles in this video should give you a good idea of how to study more effectively. Let's reach our goals and become dental students, medical students, vet students, law students, etc. I am here to help!

My friend this might be one of my favorite comments I've ever received!! 😂😂 I truly appreciate it because I love the creation side of this KZfaq thing for me. I love working with a camera and an editing software it's so fun for me! So thank you for validating the hard work I truly appreciate it! And I will be continuing to push my abilities in this realm because I hope it is one aspect that sets me apart from others in the same space on KZfaq!

@@stephenraydentist LOL I get it man. When I started that was something I really wanted to hone in on as well. Aside from good content, when I watch KZfaq videos I really appreciate a good clean crisp quality video that’s well edited. Doesn’t have to have crazy edits but quality of the content definitely doesn’t go unnoticed. You definitely have some of the cleanest quality out of everyone I’m subscribed to.

Hey! Some tips I would recommend are: *Studying in groups (helps solidify and encourage further attention to certain topics or areas) *Office hours / Tutoring if available *Practice Questions after studying to reinforce topics overlooked or also require more studying *Notebook to write down questions accumulated during study to have explained either by a peer or faculty *Waking up early and lastly *Taking care of urself :)

This is an incredible video Stephen, firstly I plan on using Anki because of you, secondly this video has amazing editing/cinematography, thirdly just the ambiance of your apartment makes it perfect for studying, it almost feels so cozy I might not even want to study 🤣 Plus you got the symbol of the deathly hallows in the background which makes it even cooler lol. Just another question, do you not use test banks/practice questions? I thought that was the most effective way to prepare for exams? Great video brother, thanks!

Thanks for this vid! I'm a D1 and I really need a new method to study, this helped. If you don't mind me asking, when you say you did fine on tests, does this mean A/B's? I'm really looking to know if this method will help me be a top student lol
@stephenraydentist
@stephenraydentist 2 жыл бұрын
This method will get you As!! The difference between an A and a B student like me is dedication and consistency! If you want to get As in dental school you have to be very meticulous with the cards you make and you have to be extremely diligent to study them every day! There are honestly long periods of time where I don’t look at the material and that’s why I’m not a top student. But I’ve decided that I don’t need to be so that’s kind of how I’ve been living! But yeah if you want to get As try out this method and commit commit!

Hey Stephan, I love your videos. So I just took my DAT did really well: 23AA; 4.0 gpa. Not trying to brag just giving you a reference. Now I’m trying to get more information on what dental school I want to attend. Could you give me advice on how you narrowed down your list. I currently submitted applications to 15 schools purely based off of geography. But now that I did much better than I expected on my dat, I’m trying to rank the schools I chose. I been going on their websites and it just seems like they’re all saying the same thing about their schools. Seems like there’s no way to truly to separate the schools in terms of pros and cons. Only info I been able to find is cost and outreach programs. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hey there congrats on your amazing scores that is such incredible news!! This is a question that I honestly don't quite have the time at the moment to give you a full, well-constructed answer, but I want to try and help with what time I do have!! In this video I discuss why I chose my current dental school! Perhaps some of the principles I discuss in this video will help you start asking yourself the right questions when it comes to choosing! To be honest, I think cost of attendance is really the most important metric. The cheaper the better because we are all getting out with insane debt and the more we can avoid that the easier it will be to get our careers in dentistry off and running! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g8CKq7R43qmweX0.html

Do you ever study in groups or do you find studying alone is more useful for your time?
@stephenraydentist
@stephenraydentist 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! I typically study alone not because I'm a loner but because I find that sometimes when I study with others there is a large element of distraction. I love all my classmates so when we're together we end up messing around and goofing off and I tend to like to keep my studying pure. But I have found in the past that studying with someone else can be great because you can explain concepts which helps you learn more than possibly any other study method

I really tried to use Anki, but I don’t think it’s going to work out for me. The process seems too time consuming, and I don’t see the benefit of turning the notes into a different format of notes. I also type the majority of my notes and add pictures to them during lectures. I like to print them out and study them on paper because it helps me create a visual map of where I found my information and annotate clarifications easily. If I want to retain the information for a long time, I would review my notes about 2-3 times.

@stephenraydentist
@stephenraydentist 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment!! See this is great because it offers a different perspective! You and I have a different core manner by which we study. It sounds like you are able to effectively study by reading through material and retaining it. Through the years, I have found that that method of studying doesn't work for me. I need to be asked questions in order to learn material. When I read through paragraphs of notes, I don't retain anything. But when I have individual points and facts presented to me quickly in succession in the form of anki cards, I learn so much more effectively. That is the power of active recall for me! We're all different which is why I make that point. Whatever works for YOU and you alone is king at that is what you should do!!

Textbooks are great!! They seem to be a thing of the past though for most. I haven’t purchased or opened a single textbook in my 1.5 years in dental school. It just seems that everything is on the computer now and all of the information for which we are responsible comes from PowerPoint slides. There is so much material that sometimes it’s all you can do to just study all of the PowerPoint slides!

Hi Stephen, I know this comment comes a year later but could you elaborate on now using text books in dental school? It just blows my mind that you don’t have to use it at all. I did graduate as a mech e so I was reading my books front to back just to get thru my classes like heat and mass transfer or viscous compressible flow.

Hey man. I also use anki and have been for the last 2 years in undergrad. Now with so much new content in D1 i’m getting nervous that anki is going to take extremely long. I love it and I truly believe it’s the best way I learn. BUT, I really could use advice on how to navigate what’s important and what’s not for a card, because I can’t take having irrelevant cards we obviously don’t have the time. Advice? Thanks bro
@stephenraydentist
@stephenraydentist 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! This really depends a lot on your professors and your courses! It’s hard to say what you should and shouldn’t focus in on but this is something you will pick up on after a test or two! Just try and take note of what types of information professors seem to ask about on exams and make that your emphasis! I promise you’ll get good at it over time. As I say in this video I still use Anki exclusively in dental school so it’s very doable!

@@stephenraydentist I understand. I have another question as well. How do you separate your decks? Do you make a new deck for each exam or do you just pack them all into one deck and some sub decks and just continuously add throughout the semester? Do you make a new deck when your semester or year is over? I’m just conflicted on the mixing of content. Advice ?
