Dr. Q Dual enrollment is where you are able to take college credit and that can replace a highschool class but you would do both semesters or not depending on your degree plan. You are able to even get your associates degree and of course do rest at a normal university

I never went to class in medical school. Just podcast the lectures after they were over. Way more efficient use of time. I’d only go to class for anatomy lab or when I got lonely and needed to see people haha. Good luck!
@yomommashaus

yeah I would recommend everyone go to class when they can, mainly for the social aspect haha! But also for other less obvious reasons like networking - if you're interested in a specialty, going down to chat with and meet the resident or attending doing the lecture can help get you noticed, get shadowing shifts, etc.

It's nice to know that medical students from other schools also use the same resources, strangely unifying in our struggle haha. Def gave us some ideas for new videos on our channel too. Anki is the actually the best, and combines active recall + spaced repetition. If you keep it up throughout your studies, STEP 1 will kneel before you..good luck! PS. Also cool that you use Costanzo's book because she is a faculty at my school and an absolute gem!

I'm glad you feel that way about writing notes in notebooks because that's exactly how I feel about my own notes and (physical) flashcards. Writing them down really helps me absorb what I'm learning (esp. now that I'm studying for my Licensure exam and redoing my flashcards to fit what I need). It's time-consuming but if you can structure your schedule properly, it is definitely possible. Kudos to you for being so organized!

Such an inspiring and well informed video. I'm a 3rd year Bio major and still have not really found a study schedule that 100% works for me. I love the idea of the lecture tracking sheet and will definitely try that for the last of this semester. Also, just an idea to throw out there, there are reusable notebooks that give you the feel of taking old-fashioned notes while being eco-friendly because you can then scan those pages to OneNote or anywhere you would want to send your notes. However, do what works for you girl ! There is no right or wrong way to learning. Love your videos !

I am currently in my first year of medical school and we have been doing things online and remotely thus far on account of COVID-19. I would just like to let you know that I think this video is superb. Many of my classmates wonder how I study "so much less" than they do and score at the top of the class. The split-screen lectures and (in my case the lecture powerpoint) while I write out my cue cards (I write mine by hand, for the same reason you handwrite things in your book) means that I am not spending another 8 hours of studying after a full day of lectures. Although I really think I should be putting in an hour or two of review after I finish this every day (I'm working on improving my study discipline), overall I am quite happy with how efficient this is. In addition, I also shrink the stacks of cue cards down as I retain material, and as exams approach the piles of cards are much smaller. I really like your study tracker spreadsheet. I think that is a superb method of staying organized and cognizant of what you have done and what you need to do. I plan to add this to my study regimen. I also think studying for boards concurrently is a great idea. I am hoping to have accrued the discipline to start doing so by next semester. Keep being awesome and I hope your studies remain enjoyable! -Robert MacRae MD candidate, M.Sc. candidate, B.H.Sc. (Hons)., B.Sc.

And honestly, as a 4th year transitioning into residency, I realized that one of the most important things in medical school was transitioning from A) learning to pass exams to B) learning to help future patients. Still study for specific exams of course, especially early on, but start to always think about how you would approach these conditions, differentials, and patients in real life, eventually in the specialty you've chosen. It'll also make your learning come alive and it will push you to come up with practical answers to things. Cheers!

tbh though, even my friends who were super disciplined and had well thought out plans entering med school ended up switching and modifying strategies! And it varies depending on how you learn as well - like I'm kinda ADHD in ways and so I have to mix it up all the time to keep myself interested if I'm learning something like antibiotics or nephrology... I would advise you to study in a group if you can - much better retention - and be flexible, ask how other people are finding studying, try out different strategies, learn from failures, and try and have fun because everyone freaks out about exams in 1st and 2nd year but you'll mostly all get through just fine and as much as learning is important, med school is actually a lot of fun so don't miss it! Best of luck!

Thank you so much for this video! I am not in medicine-- I'm writing a dissertation in the humanities and am watching these videos for methods of very effective studying. I really like your passtracker system and have implemented it as part of an extensive Japanese kanji and vocab review. I admire your hard work and wanted to let you know that you raise the bar for us all :) I hope all goes well!

I like that her emotions are palpable :) makes me feel human, and not alone in these studies.
