Fucking seriously, he has a great command of voices, imagery, and improv talent makes a DM or Storyteller far more capable. Ross should run a DUNE homebrew, I think he would fucking crush it with the right players.

We got cameos from Ross's wife and Skids mouse lol packed with guest stars today 😂 I love this series. I think when I get to DM one day I would like to try a homebrew much like Troy in a planner and I do get stressed from overplanning so that might be rough for me

This ep was a verified Rollercoaster. Every step was drama and so well convicted by the cast. Huge claps to all! From the cast, to the ones behind the scene that made it manifest.

if i had a nickel for every time a sorceress in a tabletop campaign stole a body of one of her female descendants as a limited form of immortality, i'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

What a cool story, seriously how are you guys not writing screenplays of this stuff? This would make a killer live action or animated series with the players voicing the characters. Can that be a Patreon goal????

What a cool dueling system! Really feels like an actual sword battle. You can imagine the famous Inigo Montoya/Man in the Mask fight using this system.

In 33 years of gaming, I have run exactly two modules: Keep on the Borderlands, and the first book of Dead Suns. Everything else has been homebrew. In fact, I just wound up a three year campaign that started on 30 minutes notice and was 100% homebrewed. It's not for the faint of heart, and it would be incredibly daunting in a broadcast format. I respect that you guys don't like homebrew, I just can't personally relate.

Always *had* to run homebrew. I was a Blerd in the days before diversity in gaming ever got any momentum, and I always had to customize settings to cut the ambient racism out. I just got used to doing it at a certain point, to where it became the way I game.

Troy has set the bar pretty high. There were a couple times I wanted to fast forward to see how things turned out because the tension was so damned tense.
@Spencer-sb7yd
@Spencer-sb7yd 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I imagine that running for stream would really create higher stakes for maintaining game momentum. It could also be nerve wracking if the audience is going to expect a fully cohesive story that starts on day one and builds consistently. I have never run a module. For me, you imagine a town/city, populate with 2-3 vague factions at odds with each other (over money/politics/order) add players and shake well. Introducing things that "should happen" just creates more potential failure points. Its building a sandbox not writing a novel. That's for a home game though. In that context if the players want to open a rickshaw business its all good as long as the 4 or 5 of them are still having fun. No homegame player is going to care what the mysterious lich prince that was mentioned in the first session is up to..... not when they are busy lighting their competitors fleet of rickshaws on fire (this is an actual real example that happened in a Drow Game). A streaming audience though... a decent percentage will care about the lich

Now that was an ending befitting this series so far! That was just great on so many levels. Everyone got to be the badass their characters were in their own ways. You could cut the tension with a knife the entire episode, and it was enhanced by the fact that this part with Troy was ending so he could just kill everyone so no one was really safe. And Skid kept rolling 20s. Can't wait to watch episode 6 since that thumbnail is already hilarious. Thank you so much for doing those 5 episodes. It was an exceptional homebrew given that you were in a completely new system. Loved the story so much.

The thing about modules & pre-written scenarios is that the fallback to structure is countered by having to herd your players back to the path every time they miss a cue or do something a bit.. Becca. I think which works better depends more on the group's playstyle than the GM. I'm having real trouble getting my head around the crunchier mechanics for this system. Same goes for others in the same vein though. The sheer number of different variables that affect things in different ways with different terminology; perhaps my brain just isn't compatible. How so many nat 20s?! Excellent stuff, all. I do hope the diarrhoea pops up as an option again, because there's no way Jared would turn down the chance to include that.
@Rearendoftrain
@Rearendoftrain 2 жыл бұрын
Meh I think it mostly depends on the players. If your players are not “cooperative” in a sense I think you’re going to have a bad time as a gm. If you have players who purposefully avoid the hooks then imho you have bad players. Then if your players are unaware of the hooks than you need to figure out how better to make them aware of the hooks.
@nightcatarts
@nightcatarts 2 жыл бұрын
@@Rearendoftrain Yes, as I said, it's mostly about the players. I can respect a player who rails against the established path though; they want to experience something dynamic & unpredictable (and that's possible with improv since it frees up the GM to adapt). An entire group of that type of player probably wouldn't go so well though, in any kind of situation.

Honestly in my 7 years of gming I never run a premade module as a game master (I did play some in d&d4 as a player). Would probably resort to them if I had no love of the system/setting

I love this series and your role-playting skills are so great that it is a pleasure to watch this amazing story, guys. But I believe that in this system, which is extremely forgiving for players, GM's should be much more harsh and should not make situations for players even easier. Troy, I admire your improvisation skill, and how you unravel this story, but there were few moments, when you were definitelly too nice for players. Which is not required in Dune, since there aree plenty of rules helping them to win the game anyway. And there was that moment with d4, which was so wrong. When you were randomly choosing who would be a target for Elaina's gom-jabar, you should have excluded Aurelius, since he was under Elaina's control at that moment, so it was stupid from her perspective to attack him. She should have targeted one of three other persons. She missed her throw anyway, but that d4, instead of reasonable choice of target among Deleesa, Pharos and Corin ruined that situation for me 😞

Great short story! Really well written and directed! But what bothers me is this "I dunno, the rules are strange" attitude. I mean rules ARE unusual but it makes Dune and 2D20 unique! And I wonder if it was wise to venture in this world so unprepared rules-wise?

Dune as a rpg makes me want to buy it, thou rules seems to be too complicated and too cumbersome. No idea why game designers wanted to over complicate the system.

I'm split. People have lives and kids and I know they had a studio pre pandemic so I understand and do not begrudge them for it but on the other hand it certainly hurts the immersion and wish the audio was cleaner. I just keep trying to accept the good with the bad so I can be in more control of my emotions
