How I use Adobe Audition’s new Strip Silence feature in Multitrack

Audition’s new strip silence feature should save us a lot of time, but because it’s not always right, I’ve developed a useful, unusual technique that gives me a bit of flexibility in how I apply it. It’s a bit of a fudge, but who doesn’t like fudge?
If you’d rather not watch the video, or you generally know what you’re doing, it boils down to running the new Delete Silence feature with the option to Split Silences enabled (after you’ve balanced your volume and gotten your settings for audio and silence dialled in), then marking the selected silences as SFX, and muting them. Then, review and tweak the cuts, and finally, select the silences using Edit ▸ Select ▸ Clips of Audio Type ▸ Sound Effects, and delete them en masse.

For some reason when I do Ctrl+A on the multitrack, the Diagnostics panel is gray for me

Excellent Video! Question, Is there a feature that closes the gaps easier after you've deleted all the muted clips? Premiere has the feature and it works great! But, the one in audition seems not to take into consideration clips in other tracks. I fully accept if I'm doing it wrong.

Is there any way to hide double channels from multitrack editor? I know how to layer the channels on waveform editor, but couldn't find a way to do the same on multitrack. Is very distracting and uses a lot of space having both channels (and is pretty useless most of the time)

i used to work with audacity which gave me the option to not truncate all silence, i have not yet figured out how to extend the pauses by some ms.

the solution to extend the silence is easy: export your audio and open it in audacity. truncate silence in audacity, export it. open your new track in audition and start editing again. easy and very complicated.

Interesting video. Now how would you align all of the remaining audio clips together instead of keeping them further apart if you had the reason to? Any way to automatically do that?

Question, when I keep everything selected, and then mark as sound effects, it tags both my dialogue and silences as SF. How did you get the SF to just mark on the silent bits? Thanks for any and all help!

When selecting all those clips I cant select the "Delete Silence" it just grayed out but when I go to waveform its working but only one track

@@chrisphin I solved it Thanks I updated to the latest version. But my problem now issss..I already remove all the silences but how can I delete the gap(the silences that the delete silance removed" I still manually delete the space between those silences?

@@johnrussellbarrientos6324 It depends what you’re trying to do. In my case, yes, I’ll be dealing with latency for shows recorded over the internet, so I will be selecting clips to end of Session and tightening gaps between speakers with dragging and nudging. If you simply want to collapse silences out of a single track, you can use the old delete silence feature in waveform view.
