It's a useful and common approach that i've seen in some teacher"s videos. You can apply this to a lot's of patterns including chords things, like arpeggios. It can help a lot to figure it out hands shapes and jumps. Thanks for sharing your experience :)

Yeah, I'm already starting my next piece using this. When a piece is super simple is feels like it makes it harder, but definitely as the complexity increases it's a good way to ease into the piece.

I’m glad you like it. However, this is not really intended as a tutorial as I’m clearly not qualified to be teaching. I’m just sharing my experiences as I learn.

It definitely helped me. My left hand was all over the place until my teacher made me do this.

@@DanielLearnsPiano I didn't think it looked too bad until I read your comment in the description of that video "the most difficult piece I've played so far." You crushed me before I'd even started :)

In fairness, most pieces I start feel like the most difficult. It actually take that long to learn. But getting up to a reasonable tempo was time consuming, particularly the transition between the two sections which I found very awkward. You might breeze it.

Dies blocking mean that you don't play it immediately as it is written, instead you take it step by step as you show us in the video? Thanks btw, I'm learning it as well, the left hand in the first bars isn't a problem for me, but the jump in the right hand is for example. Also, I've watched you playing it and I like how you keep the left hand quiter than the right/the overall dynamic :)

Yeah, you’d play any arpeggiated chords as block chords. It just allows you to get used to getting your hands in position. It’s like a rough version and as you get used to it you can add more detail.
