A 4x4 engine bay clean can be as detailed as you like.
I show you how i do a 4x4 engine bay clean with water, quickly and easily.
Keeping the engine bay clean on your 4WD looks great, and makes it a bit easier to see any potential oil leaks starting.
Engine bay cleaning seems to be one of those jobs thats either forgotten about when you wash your 4WD, or cant be bothered because it's out of sight and out of mind.
It doesn't take long to get the engine bay clean and when it is nice and clean, it looks fantastic when the bonnet is opened up.
Your motor mechanic will be a lot happier working on a nice clean engine bay, rather than one that's covered in dirt and mud.
How often is your engine bay cleaning being done?

I use the CT18 - bit more heavy duty, good for tyres and wheels and under guards as well. Best product I've found for dressing engine bay is Autoglym Rubber and Vinyl Care (plus can use on interior). 5-6 sprays on entire engine bay after doing final rinse. Let sit while you wash the rest of the car and wipe off with a microfibre cloth. Dust doesn't stick as much and makes plastics look like new.

1. Quick spray of water to get the dust off 2. Bit of tyre cleaner on the whole lot 3. Rinse off with a hose (medium rinse) 4. Another hit with cleaner 5. Hose off everything 6. Hit the engine bay with with a air hose & leaf blower till all the water is pretty much gone 7. Hand dry with a towel/cloth 8. Run the ute for a few minute 9. Hit with tyre shine and wipe it over with a clean rag 10. Enjoy the next service having no dirt getting in your eyes. Just a quick rundown on how I do mine. Seen people use pressure washers. Not a good idea🤦‍♂️Great video as usual mate👌

I use a set of detailers brush (with varying shapes and sizes, with hard and soft bristles) as part of my under bonnet cleaning kit. Before I wet the engine bay, I first clean the area using a dedicated brush(es) to brush away any debris. Then once the excess dry dirt/dust/mud is removed, that's when I rinse the engine with water. Then spray it (using the same pressurised sprayer you use) with soapy water (or specific under bonnet cleaner). While wet with the solution, I use another dedicated brush(es) to brush away more dirt. Focusing on the hard to reach places. Repeat this step if necessary - those hard to reach places can sometimes require several passes. Then rinse the soapy water off, and dry with a microfibre cloth. Then I use a plastic/vinyl restorer to shine up the rubber hoses, cables, plastic and painted parts, along with another microfibre cloth and/or another detailers brush(s). Then voila. Though I'll try the tyre shine you use to see if it works just as well. And if it does, I'll start using that instead. Coz the tyre shine you use is about 20% of the price of the Meguiar's Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner & Conditioner I use.

Another good clip mate. Yeah got to love the tyre shine, works a treat, shines up like new and is cost effective. I do under my tray with it too wherever you can see black metal. I usually avoid bog holes on purpose but should you get any water or mud underneath, it’s so much easier to clean off with tyre sheen on there, it’s like a protective coating. The other good truck is a bit of WD40 or similar - light spray before water gets near the alternator and bobs your uncle mate 👍 Great clip mate, keep up the good work champ 👍🇦🇺

Hey Batesy, love your videos. I’ve really gotten into keeping my Discovery shiny lately, and actually found out that the propellants in a lot of aerosols can actually degrade rubber over time. What I’ve been using for shine instead is Meguiars All Season Dressing. It comes in a 5L bottle from Repco, think it’s about $60? A great reminder for us Tim. I used a pressure cleaner once to clean the engine bay of my second vehicle being a XR8. I was careful, covered up the alternator, electrics and everything was good for 2 days. Then my car would not run properly. After checking some error codes the TBS, (Throttle Body Sensor) became bad. I think the pressure from the cleaner damaged it and that was over a $100 fix. I think regional Victoria is now out of lockdown from this Friday l believe except for Shepparton. Hopefully you have a chance to get out very soon Tim. Jason in lockdown Victoria.

Warm engine slightly & keep it running. Hit it with ct18 then shut engine off while the ct18 dries. Start engine again then rinse with a low pressure, fine mist. Close bonnet for an hour so engine heat dries the water up. Give it a spray with wd40. That's what I do with my engine bay & literally every single person that sees it says the same thing "f that's clean!". On a side note, I intentionally flush my alternator, with the engine running after mud driving. I run a high output unit from Baxters that can handle water as long as it is CLEAN water. Well worth the extra $150 for the superior unit.

Ct anything promotes rust as it is not ph neutral Use lanotec citra force and it comes up shiny also no need for Tyre shine that attracts the dust

Incorrect. CT18 is ph neutral & actually has rust inhibitors in it. Used on engine, chassis & wheels it actually helps prevent rust. Use it on paintwork though & it will remove any wax & polish. If you're unaware of this & thus fail to reapply a protective wax, rust can start in areas where the paint is less than perfect.

As for dust sticking to tyre shine, it is the silicone based shines that do that. Get one that isn't silicone based & dust won't stick to it once it's dried prroperly. Same goes for interior protectant sprays with the added down side that silicone based interior sprays will cause vinyl & plastics to fade over years of use.
