In this video, we're back in virtual reality simulating wheelies on a Tuono V4! This video breaks down the aPRC settings simulated Chad has had the most success with, as well as the simulated technique that produces many of the virtual wheelies you may have seen before. Aprilia Performance Ride Control - including wheelie control and traction control - are helpful in a lot of situations, but not so much if you want to do sick whoolies.
Thank you so much for watching! If you enjoyed this video, don't forget to like it, subscribe to my channel if you haven't yet, and drop a comment below detailing your wheelie experience - virtual or actual! I hope to catch you in the next one! ✌️

I think we are “virtual reality” neighbors 👍 I was coming home one time driving my M5 (not my 21 Tuono) when you came across the other side of the street on a wheelie. Your bike sounds even more impressive in person 🙌

Nice one Chad! Thanks for sharing the APRC settings. 👍 I will try it out on my Tuono too. By the way, the 1st rear brake tap comes on just before you dump the clutch? Do u regulate the speed of the bike with the rear brake once on 1 wheel?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Satyen! Glad you found it helpful! The tap of the brake before the clutch pop is just something I do to check that my foot is in the right place before starting the wheelie. Once the front is up, I use a combination of the rear brake and throttle to regulate speed and height. Hope that’s helpful!

One thing I've noticed that influences wheelies on the tuono: wheel base length. I could power wheelie it when my wheel base was shorter, I've lengthened it (diff sprockets+chain setup) and now it hardly comes up (unless I go WOT 😂).
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Lengthening the wheelbase will definitely help keep the front end down! I’m surprised just changing your sprocket and chain had that much of an impact. Wheelies aren’t good for acceleration anyways 😂

Great video Chad. I've been too scared I'd loop my bike to mess around with the settings so low. I keep wheelie control at 1 but I haven't lowered my traction control. I'll start with wheelie on one and traction on one and see if I can do better than I am now thank you. What do you recommend for ABS?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sean! Glad you enjoyed. 🙂 In my experience, turning TC down hasn’t made a difference when wheelie control is still on. That said, AWC is helpful for getting comfortable with the feeling of the front coming up. For ABS, I run 1, which disables rear ABS and cornering assist. Since I have AWC off and am using the rear brake a lot, the last thing I would want to have happen is ABS to kick in on the rear while the front is up. Not sure if that would be possible, but I’d rather not find out. 🙂

Not bad to be honest, I personally find it easier to power wheelie on my 20 model, but I think it's just preference really. Not sure if unwanted advice, but something I noticed is you tend to lean forward a bit as the front lifts up, its the scariest part of learning to wheelie but if you can control yourself from doing that you won't have to pick the front wheel so far up to find the balance point as your weight won't be so far over the front forks. Looks like you're doing pretty well though, your throttle inputs are pretty smooth which is good because nothing hurts to see more than whisky throttle in a wheelie...just a recipe for disaster. The fact that you chase it out at the end to reduce the impact on the front forks is also great :) Side note, after I wrote this I saw someone else said you lean forward in the comments so don't read that bit and just read the bits where I said you were doing well lmao.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip and the kudos, Matt! You'll right about the leaning forward. I tried leaning back after the initial pop yesterday and that seemed to help out a bit. 🙂 Definitely prefer the clutch. I feel like it's easier to control that way, but I also haven't really tried to power wheelie since I've gotten comfortable on the Tuono.

The big bikes I find are just harder to find a good balance on. A Triumph Street Triple 765 or even a 675. The older V twin Tuonos pretty decent. The Big single cylinder KTM 690 might be the best I’ve ever ridden for easy wheelies. The crazy power and ultra light internals of the new Liter bikes makes em harder to keep a good rpm at the balance point in my opinion. Easier to wheelie but not the easiest to maintain that wheelie. But quite honestly practice makes perfect and if the bike can wheelie at all no matter what it is with persistence you can ride some out for quite a long time. k4 GSXR 1000 would be my pick for the big bikes. They lightened up the internals on the K5 makes throttle openings a little twitchier. But if it’s a modern bike and it’s not like a BMW GS, or a 125 Honda or something you should e able to get some good monos out of it. My Favorite all time wheelie bike I’ve ever owned personally is my recently sold KTM 990 SMR. Just a straight up floater! Pull one up for me y’all.

It definitely seems like this teeters a bit more than the supermoto I learned on, although I wouldn't say I mastered wheelies on that before trying to learn how to do them with the Tuono. Sounds like you've had a lot of experience trying them on different bikes! Must be fun to see the differences from one to the other. I'll pop one for you next time I'm out. Thanks for watching ✌️

@johnnylucid 2 жыл бұрын
Hard to judge from the video alone but it appears you learn forward when you bring the bike up as the dash seems to get closer to your camera. Try keeping your shoulders and head back as you bring the bike up to help create a lower center of gravity which will make the bike float more. My 2 cents. On my 21 RSV4, wheelie and traction control set to 1 give me about 2 seconds before it gently sets the front end down. It's an awesome setting for ripping around the country side. This is when power wheeling. Clutching seems to just come up and set it right back down.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the advice Johnny! I try to keep my upper body upright so I can see over the windscreen still, and because it feels more comfortable. Your point makes sense though! AWC does seem to be a little more playful with power wheelies than clutch ups.

Been trying for some power wheelies on my 21 Tuono V4 and man this thing just wants to go fast and not wheelie. Your video has given me some idea of things to mess with. I've turned down and off wheelie control in the past, but haven't messed with ABS and TCS enough.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
I would turn it all off and see what it can do. Also, I heard that they limit the torque in the first two gears on the new bikes, so that may also be part of the reason it just wants to accelerate and not bring up the front.

Do not intentionally wheelie with traction control, aprc WILL limit power and sometimes go into limp mode during a long wheelie. Had it happen twice, it will cut power and limp for about 20 secs after.

I just started learning clutch ups on my 19 Tuono non factory and was ATC 1 AWC 1 and it would barley let it come up. Since then I have went to ATC 3 AWC - and it will now come up but comes up so quick that it makes me nervous and I end up chopping the throttle subconsciously every time. I usually do it in second around 35-45 mph. Any tips?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 ай бұрын
It just takes time and practice. An exercise I did on my supermoto was lifting the front wheel up and immediately bringing it back down with the rear brake, but not chopping the throttle. Learning to control the balance between the throttle and brake is what made me start to feel comfortable.

I never knew ABS lower than 2 disables the cornering effect, ive used ABS on 1 forever while riding track and twisties, also in the rain.... back to 2 for me, just for safety especially on the road.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
Cornering assist is only on settings 2 and 3, as well as the rear-lift mitigation (stoppie control) and ABS on the rear. ABS on 1 only provides basic assistance on the front wheel, but the bike does have a fantastic chassis and suspension, so there is a lot of grip there, even without aids. Still. I agree it would be safer to use 2 or 3 on the street. 🙂

This is off topic, but do you do your own oil change? If so, how do you reset the maintenance light? The Aprilia dealership in California charge a great deal.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Cris! I do my own oil changes, but I have had to resort to the same and take it to the dealer to get the light reset. The service light on bikes prior to 2017 could easily be reset, but they made it difficult from 2017 on with the digital dash. They would charge half an hour of labor, which is better than some others I’ve heard, but still silly when it takes them 10 minutes to do. I think someone commented on one of my older videos and said if you input a particular service code through the dash menu to reset it. I haven’t had a chance to try it, but if you want to give it a shot I think it’s 12412 in the service code section within the menu.

Please show us how to do beginner wheelies on the 675?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kanwal! It would be the same technique I use here. If you’re trying to learn, I recommend getting comfortable popping the clutch and engaging the rear brake almost immediately to bring the front back down, and practicing letting the wheel float a little more as you get more comfortable, and finding balance between the brake and throttle. Not necessarily balance point, but just being able to control the height of the front with the throttle and rear brake. The 675 would be tricky to do a video on since it is a track only bike, and wheelies on the track aren’t always allowed unless they’re short power wheelies under acceleration. Hope this helps though!

Once you push it alittle more you'll feel the top end balance out and you can let off the gas almost all the way without it coming down .
