I sold my 02 Z06 with 70K miles on it for 500.00 less than I paid for it. I kept every receipt spent on it for 12 years. I sold it in 2 weeks of posting and the guy who bought it said his decision was based on documentation and it was evident to him that keeping records proved to him that it was cared for. He's got a great VETTE.

LOL, isn't that what people dream of. 😂😊😂 I know a few people with imports that barely go the speed limit. They usually don't push their car. There's too much invested into said machine. LOL 😂

Lyle, been watching your channel for quite sometime. I didn’t own a Corvette then, but found your videos to be very informative. Little did I know that I would have a chance to get 75K mile 1991 ZR1. I guess you watch this channel long enough and you’ll eventually become a Corvette owner. Thanks for all the work you put in these videos!

Excellent video. Now my story about 4 years ago I wanted a C3. I think I know pretty much did a ton of research watched all of Lyles videos and I did want a numbers matching car just because no other reason. I found a 1979 38000 miles which I was comfortable was the actual miles I based that on several things the interior wear and some other things but what I really focused on was the frame. It was very solid and the car appeared to be very original. It ran very rough but I felt the car had a ton of potential like Lyle said things wear out from the inside out. All the front bushings had to be replaced of course all the fluids plugs cap rotor brakes hoses and the carburetor had to be rebuilt I found an old guy to rebuild the carburetor because I wanted it mostly stock. The car is wonderful and I drive it as much as I can it gets looks and people talk to me all the time. It’s white with red interior last fall I was at Walmart and I parked next to a white C7 when I came out a guy said to me I like yours better. Like Lyle said the key to this sport is drive these cars and enjoy them. I sure do I also have a 2010 Grand Sport convertible. I have learned so much from Lyle and C&S corvettes thank you Lyle can’t wait for next Friday.

I bought my 2003 50th anniversary edition with just under 40k miles. Mostly good, but the tires were from 2006. And mismatched. Actually bought a few of the shale interior bits from C&S. The sun visors had been replaced with plain black ones, and the door screw covers walked away. Thankfully these guys have some good parts handy.

Love your point of view on corvettes I've owned a 1986 c4 since I was 20 original owner I used it for about 6 years until I started having a family the car sat in a good garage ever since still all original got it running would love to modify it as much as possible not worried about value because it means more to me because I had it when I was younger just hard to find someone qualified to do the work

As always THANK YOU Lyle for sharing your time and knowledge on Corvette ownership. I noticed in the comments about saving paperwork on parts and work performed. I do the same thing. When selling any year Corvette or whatever car. Or just your reminder of where the money went. Peace of mind for the next person, that Yup that's what was done and when. Amazing when people wanting to really low ball you and say well, I can find that year anywhere for half the price. Yes, you can, but you're going to spend a lot more on that mystery mobile that was half the price. If it gets you home? I know you don't get every dollar back on service and Maintenace items. You get some peace of mind that you'll get from A to B. in the same car you started with. But you already known that. I hope that more folks that are New to the Corvette experience find your site. Worth every episode!

Lyle, yet another great video. My '91 is nowhere near original; after a six-year, ground-up rebuild it's way better than that, even considering it has 115K miles on the OD. I realize that the mileage will hurt it's value at resale time, but there's no way on earth a potential buyer will ever find another thing wrong with it or a more thorough documentation of the rebuild.

Spot on Lyle. I came of age in late 60s when the c2 big blocks were brand spanking new. These cars were driven very hard and beat on constantly. Parts broke, rears, trans, engines and replaced Numbers matching is another way to add perceived value added to sales price. I have seen big blocks that were numbers were re stamped. When these cars were new, parts replaced to make them faster. Now those part s taken off to OEM. Nobody cars how fast it comes off the trailer

Great advice! My C5 is low miles, but it’s my daily. I am just finishing a mild cam and 243 head swap, 2 row radiator, but stock exhaust manifolds, and invisible 4.10 gears. One could stand there with the hood open and it looks original. The perspective Lyle presents is a relief to hear… He’s right, it’s either a museum piece, or not. Keep it however makes it fun to own.

I think there is a market that likes restored to original specs or the parts used like rad hoses, markings, decals, etc. to present the car as it was new. So like an on-frame restoration that presents as original, and the car is driven to shows and the local cruise ins, not beat on and the car cared for. I think within the C2 and C3 market, many would be buyers fall into this category. Original matching motor a bonus but not critical and some will pay a slight premium for the original block even the the internals may have been modified but the appearance is stock.

There seems to be a movement in the younger generation (under 50) that cares less about the “low mileage, all original survivor” stigma. There will always be collector cars, but people are less impressed by individuals who gloat about not enjoying their toys.

It depends on what is modified and how. Say you put in a new cam and intake along with rockers. Document what was used and how it was installed. Buying a corvette with mystery parts is not a good thing. It is not the mods so much as the lack of documentation.

Lyle, I hear you but the second I see that any of the following are on the car (1) performance chip, (2) aftermarket exhaust, (3) oil soaked (K&N junk) air filter, aftermarket rims, cam, unnecessary Corvette emblems, I'm gone and nobody is catching me. I get your point about not being completely original, but the devaluation that occurs from something not original is dramatic. I don't care how much the last owner wanted (fill in the blank). The NEXT owner sure as he$$ doesn't want it and is thinking about how much it's going to cost to remove, put back to stock, or how much harder the miles on the car are.

Wow Lyle, this pretty much lines up with the opinions I tumbled to all on my own ........a few years back. I've owned cars that were "too precious" to really enjoy and decided they were no fun at all. So, I own a car that is a very nice driver but nothing more. If something happens to it I will not be "happy" about it - but at the end of the day it's just a bunch of metal and wire and fiberglass - all of which I can replace. You're missing out on all the snow up here in PA. I bet you're real sad about that.

I'm not in the camp, buy a used corvette as cheap as possible, with 120k miles on it, and start emptying your wallet for just the basic things to make the car look and drive descent. What you're excluding in my opinion, is the fact that a 20-30-year-old low mileage car that has had regular maintenance represents. as far as your comment that a car 20 or more years old cannot verify its mileage is incorrect. There can be yearly safety inspections, and/or emissions checks that the state can verify mileage. also, if the cars had 3 or 4 buyers in the last 20-30 years, [not uncommon] a search of the title verifies mileage also. Plus there are simply dozens of items on a low mileage car that simply cannot be replaced, or easily replaced, My car is 28 years old, it has 22k original miles on it, and it looks it, and it drives like it. The consumables have all been replaced, fluids, tires, light bulbs, brake pads, and fluid, and radiator, and flush. to say this simply has no value in the car is ridiculous. a well kept low mileage car will ALWAYS have a higher value, and that's a fact. oh and i keep it in a regular garage covered up [no chickens].
@csvette
@csvette 6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure where we disagree here. I have no desire to see people buy a ragged out car and dump a ton of money into it...better to pay TOO much for a really nice car from the start. Certain points you make can vary state-to-state. In FL, for example, after 10 years any car older than a 2010 is mileage exempt...no odometer reading on the title. If you have seen any of my other videos, you know that I value fluid maintenance above almost everything else for vehicle health. Lyle
