IndyCar is making the switch to hybrid power for 2024, including at the Indianapolis 500. But how can you recharge a battery without any braking zones?

Unlike IndyCar, F1 has to appeal to road car manufacturers to stay technologically relevant. These manufacturers wanted those kinds of engine regs because the R&D is more transferable to the road car department.

@@mrgalaxy396That's true, but the manufacturers in IndyCar agreed to use a super capacitor. I'm sure they could've vetoed the decision if they really wanted to use batteries.

@@mrgalaxy396 R&D transferable to road cars is just a myth, has been the case for decades already. Road car tech is far ahead even (except materials which is where F1 shines). Racing allowing to push more tech wouldn't allow some series to survive, even F1, the costs would be out of this world.

With fuel you cause x damage, with this new cars using "sustainable energies" you cause 3x damage, are way more expensive, can't repair any component with little to no chance to recycle or reuse but are 0 emission so who cares about the rest. Anyways, still the best philosophy for a brighter future

I have a little problem with the phrase “will be electric.” That sounds like they are full EV’s. But they are not. They still have a combustion engine. So they’re not electric but electrified. It doesn’t sound that different but it makes a difference on how the phrase will be taken in. All car manufacturers talk about electric cars when they mean they’re full EV’s. If the decide to put an electric motor in to create a hybrid they call it “electrified”.
