In India i have seen that new and upcoming studios have started using blender and the recent blockbuster RRR was made using blender. They did everything in blender except FX. Even other movies in India have started using blender as it's fast, reliable and not to mention cheat specially for a studio who dont have millions in funding.

I used to be a Maya Product Designer in Autodesk. Blender is a very neat software making the whole workflow much faster in term of short CG film (with massive modeling tools, asset browser, rigging tools etc.) In addtional , blender is much easier to learn compared to C4D with similar logic. I think blender is the future.

I really need to learn Blender, but after 20 years with max, its so hard to learn something new. but just cannot afford max anymore I am a modeler and seeing some of the amazing possibility in blender just makes my mouth waters... but going from a menu system, to a keybind system is just hard. Feels like im trying to play mortal kombat doing key combinations you know... any way to ease the transition?
@Arjjacks
@Arjjacks Жыл бұрын
Edit > Preferences > Keymap > upper left corner, change from Blender to Industry Compatible. This will match the keybinds you are used to in Max with Blender, though this in turn disaligns with online tutorials, just fyi. Aside from that, best bet is to just go through the toolbars and menus and buttons and see what they do. Most keybinds in Blender do in fact correspond with the a button or operator somewhere in the UI, contrary to popular opinion.

@@DimiArt I respectfully disagree about being easy, its well known to have a steep learning curve... if you are someone who understands and remembers keyboard shortcuts its easy, sadly I am pass that point in my life so its much harder to pickup now. Specially after using max for 20 plus years. I am not a hotkey user... i need to see things... example, in max if i want to say pull an edge.. it be go to edit mode, select edge mode, select the edge, put mouse over the axis icon i want to extrude, hold shift, click and drag to where i want. In blender, its press E then D, then Z then ABCDEDGFHKL or something to do the same... no intuitive or user friendly at all if i need a 8x11 page of cheat sheet to do what takes 2 seconds in any other products...i want to create things.. not feel like i am playing mortal kombat having to do some crazy keystroke combo to do any simple task... things got better with the 2.8 update but its still far from friendly.

I think most people won't migrate because switching goes against our sink cost bias. Most people I know who used Maya for many years don't want to touch Blender and will need to be forced or paid to just try it. I think his strength is that curious people who want to try 3D will start with Blender and that in general, the most creative people are curious ones which will push the software higher and higher.

Yeahh, the animators post their grease pencil workflow on Twitter all the time. Is pretty basic stuff if you know your way around blender. Jujutsu kaisen, and ranking of kings also use the same method.

Also you forgot to mention that Blender is not industry standard not because it was not a thing and a lack of support from blender to customize its product for TV/FILM. Blender focus was never for FILM and TV but more so these large companies have put tons of money into marketing to TV and FILM companies. Including indoctrination of teachers and students from the inception of their learning to use their products. This is true not just for 3D software but the same happened for people using Adobe, Apple and Wacom products. People swore that these were the only "professional grade" tools one could use to achieve the results they needed. After 30 plus years of this nonsense REAL ARTIST no this not to be true because Adobe, Autodesk and Apple all have their specific issue including Wacom. People were creating great art and products without using these products and using open source, buy once or freeware software for more than 30 years on the indie market. But people are so brainwashed that you only need or should use this because this was how they were taught or what they learned in the industry. That was the holy grail when that is false. The tool never make the artist of product it is the creatives ability to use their ability and ingenuity. Creating something with a great story and characters to deliver to the people that will receive it. That is why when I was teaching I never said that this specified product was the only way to do it. Because as artist you should find the best solution to aid you on your journey. Sometimes the obvious solution is not always the best one. Oh and thanks for adding the video about the 2017 blender conference speaker Sean Kennedy. That if which I saw and it proves that blender has been used by some in the industry well before it became popular now over the past 5 or so years.

Remember someone said the Real reason it’s not the industry standard is mainly because it would be costly or troublesome to change the whole production pipeline and blender is not good enough to be worth the trouble, also the schools mainly teach those programs religiously like you said. Although blender is a jack of all trades as long as it isn’t more powerful than each of those competitors I don’t think it could totally replace them especially in the big studios who can afford it. I’m still very much a beginner in 3d and learning animation and 3d sculpting by myself this summer and tried Blender, I have only good things to say about it. It was easy to learn and manage and the interface look great. Had a lot of fun animating and sculpting. But when I tried Maya, it was very comfortable especially with the experience from blender and some functionality that made my struggles with the graph editor easier. The main feature that made me almost jump in joy is the stacked view in the graph edition 😂 it’s not much but made the work so easier for me. While I don’t think blender can become industry standard I’m pretty sure it will still take a big part of the industry especially with low budget, indie or amateur projects I’m not a professional tho so take what I said with grain of salt 😅

Ive compared Autodesk to blender and it’s still the stronger program for complex scenes. It’s not indoctrination.
