Don't feel bad. Kevin is a prodigy. He was playing instruments from a young age, not just cello, but piano and saxophone, and went to Yale. He also spent time in China. He speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese. Read some of his bios if you want to feel even more awed and intimidated!

Kevin makes Pentatonix who they are, IMO. Being a drummer myself, I love his contribution to the group. Add to it his cello and singing....plus his non-music stuff...what an amazing young man!

Kevin is such a genius and a musical genius. He has so many talents in him I can't believe he hasn't self-combusted. Can play multiple instruments, sing, beatbox, write, compose, speaks multiple languages, perfect pitch, as if that wasn't enough, he was pre-med at Yale. He is also a humble and wonderful human. Maybe when he is done making music, he can cure cancer and broker world peace.

He's not playing the D for a note -- he has perfect pitch. It's just to add texture to the sound. But yeah, he's phenomenal.

It's never too late to share music. Even if you just do stuff locally or maybe you use your knowledge to help youngsters around your area get started. I'm just a few years older than you and this year I'm finally getting focusing on becoming a published author after a couple a decades as a nurse. I saw in a few videos you said your son has a book out. Congrats to him.

KO one of the most talented peeps I can think of. Went to Yale going into medicine, played Carnegie Hall on Cello while he was in Highschool, Speaks Mandarin, sings, produces, beatboxes, Created the art form known as Cello-boxing where he does both at the same time...pretty sure he's an alien from another world....and does Pentatonix. I remember from one of the PTX videos (maybe a livestream?) he shared that he gets up really early and reads some Bible passages to inspire himself, AND manages to work out, AND does all of the other stuff. I think you may be right about the alien from another planet, he is like Superman! And his smile is so beautiful:) Now that he's a dad I'm sure he is slaying that as well.

Most, if ot all of PTX are prodigies who were skilled before training, but Kevin went to Yale to study the arts (I think it was Yale) - Kirstin got a full ride musical scholarship to OSU and I think the others were formally trained too. However, hours, days and YEARS of hard work cannot be replaced.

I read a bunch of your comments, yes he is all that! You are forgetting one of the things I always look for. His wonderful and contagious laughter. He can take a room of people and turn them all into balls of laughter. Just by laughing himself.

Hes playing the piano note as a note in the song. He has perfect pitch. He is the only one in PTX with perfect pitch actually. He is so accomplished it makes me cry lol.

Oh, his sign of the times is better, in my opinion! You need to check out Scott Hoying, the lead of PTX, singing The A-Team and his cover of Red's I Should Tell Your Momma On You!!! Kevin has perfect pitch, he doesn't need the note!

My Great-Grandfather was a string instrumentalist. His day job was a cabinet-maker (i.e. he made furniture). He was always poor, but I wish I could have heard him play the Cello or Violin. Peace, Love!

Nope, he's playing the high D because it's in the song! You should listen to the original and you'll be even more amazed at Kevin's genius in this cover. (Also, Kevin has perfect pitch so he doesn't really need a pitch reference. Cellos have no frets, so it's not uncommon for cello players to have perfect pitch.)

Yeah Kevin makes us ALL feel lazy and under accomplished haha! He's definitely a prodigy. I don't think he's ever done something and not mastered it. To top it off he's also a super nice person!

Thanks for your reaction- love KO! Today was your introduction to his electric cell,"Mr Carter" (named by his mother). He usually plays his regular cello, "Beyonce" when he is celloboxing with Pentatonix. There is an amazing video on You Tube of Kevin playing saxophone at Carnegie Hall when he was still a teenager in high school. It is called Kevin Olusola "From The Top: Live From Carnegie Hall-2005" and the performance and interview right after will blow you away!! Please react to that one.

Pretty sure the piano note is a reference to the original track. Kevin (and now possibly Matt I think) are the ones with perfect pitch in Pentatonix.

Also Van, it's not too late to pick up your art again. I've been bedridden 10 years and gave up on life, a week ago was the first time in 9 years I held a brush but now I'm itching to pick it back up again. I've been fatally ill on and off from 17-29 the best years of my life supposedly gone. But after still having the same family members and friends at my back after those 10+ years I feel like nothing is impossible or too late to start again, and I didn't feel that way 3 weeks ago especially with my next birthday coming up. For you who makes us believe we can do anything as the man who has invited us into a bit of his life as we are ALL the LFR Family. It’s been said that Kevin has perfect pitch, so I think him playing the note was a stylistic choice versus giving himself the note.

I need a whole song from him with a looper of just his voice. I know he's just as talented on strings and piano, but as a deep base, and beat boxer that can go that high he could do a lot of those sounds with just his voice. And looper artists that just use their voices to make the song are so rare, but I think he could kill anything.
