The thing about Pentatonix medleys like this is -- it's one take. It's not spliced, or cut up. This is them singing for 6ish minutes and sounding like that. Mind blowing.

Don't ever feel embarrassed to admit you were a Michael Jackson fan, he was a rare phenomenon, that was a genre all his own, & entertained with his heart & soul. It is the people who didn't like Micheal Jackson, I would be concerned with!

No group could ever do MJ any justice. He was one of the greatest of our times and u could tell it was the passion of his life. He put his all into his music and thats why they are so great. I was also a huge MJ fan. I don't for one minute believe any of the shite. The media can demonise and all too often still do, paint whatever picture they want of stars and ruin them. These people should be held accountable for some of the stories they run with destroying peoples lives. Especially those that speak out against the "big machine" that is the music industry, which michael did. Pink floyds welcome to the machine, listen to the lyrics, u'll understand it once u know what the machine is!

Avi Kaplan is the white bearded guy who does the bass. He and Kevin the beatboxer were roommates for years when they were starting out. Avi taught Kevin to sing (he was an instrumentalist on cello and saxophone coming into the group). They are still friends and Kevin mentioned recently that he was in Nashville and went over to Avi's for dinner. Avi left after 6 years and does his own music as a singer-songwriter now. If you want to hear Avi actually sing try "Change On the Rise" or "First Place I Go" on his KZfaq channel under his own name Avi Kaplan.

When PTX performed on the Sing Off (the show they won, not your gospel choir lead sing off 😆) they really stood out for their medleys. They mix things like others wouldn’t have thought of, and their transitions are stellar. Daft Punk was one. Another excellent medley is the 90’s Dance Medley. They even did a little Cher homage in that. Their Evolution of Ariana and Evo of Rihanna are also very good.

Everytime I hear MJ's music I inevitably feel broken hearted for a young man who had his childhood stolen from him and was never allowed to just be a kid and grow up and be happy... Amazing artist regardless...King of Pop; he was completely embedded in American culture, in all of us regardless of background...

If you mean my introduction to Pentatonix, that would be back in 2011 when my wife and her sister grabbed me to watch this group on SingOff season 3 week 5. I was astonished by what I heard. What made it more impressive was that I found out that Kevin, their beatboxer, showed up the day of the show for the first week. Yet they still popped it. They cleared the fence with room to spare. 420 feet to straightaway rightfield. That's at least 20 rows back. Or maybe it's "He pulls up from 35 feet and sends up a prayer, then whoosh... nothing but net. If you mean this video, I saw it for the first time about a month after they released it with a different reactor.

You are correct, the original three grew up together in Arlington, Texas USA. Scott met Mitch when they were 10 years old and were together 24/7 through their youth. Mitch met Kirstin around age 8 as they were in Community Arts Theater. PTX just celebrated their 10th anniversary but the trio has been singing together for almost 20 years. Mitch has shorter than average Vocal Cords that help create his sound. They were training their voices before the usual male voice change as they went through puberty together.

I had to laugh at the fake jacket with all the zippers. Hey!, you were handling your business back then and probably looked fly. If you knew how to dance, even better. I didn't have a jacket but I did go to his concert....twice! Best concerts ever. PTX killed this. Thanks for reacting to this.

well, we Pentaholics have a little rule to be able to call yourself a real Pentaholic, you have to know all their names on the correct members. the three in the back, Mitch, Kirstin(nick name: Kirstie), Scott(in the middle). Avi and Kevin in the front. In 2017 Avi(the one who looks like Jesus) left the group and was replaced by Matt. Scott and Kirstie both met Mitch the first time when they were 8 years old, Scott met Kirstie the first time in High School. Mitch, Kirstin and Scott all went to the same High School. they basically grew up together. We call them The Trio. Mitch has dated Kirstie and Scott. Scott wanted to Audition for a show called "The Sing Off", but they had to be at least 5 members to Audition, so they added a Bassinger and a Beat boxer. they found Kevin through KZfaq and Avi Through a friend. the first time the whole group sang together was only one day before the Audition. they ended up winning the show, they won a record label (Sony), they got dropped by the label however the label dropped the group, so they started posting content on KZfaq and clearly it paid off.

If you want to revisit Michael Jackson a bit more from a different perspective, first review the Bad music video, and then check out Fat, by Weird Al. Rumor has it that MJ actually helped with production on Al's music video. And some of those dance moves from Bad, are hilarious when performed in a fat suit. 🤩🤩 I've watched them since their first performance together ever on the SingOff acapella talent show. Ask any Pentaholic the background on any person, any song and we can overwhelm you with trivia. Notice that all their "Evolution Of" and most medley videos are recorded in one take.
