In the last dust collector video, we upgraded the Wen 3403 single stage dust collector to a two-stage dust collector using the Dust Deputy Cyclone and Wynn pleated filter. How has it been performing? How did the plumbing system upgrade go? What did I use as a power switch? Find out today.

Thanks so much for doing this update to the last update! I'm doing something very similar except my dust deputy and the separator are swapped, compared to your layout. But just seeing the real-world performance along with your description of how the dust was created provides a measurable guide to extrapolate from. I will say that from my experience, "Just Say No" to flex hose greater than what is absolutely needed. You'll appreciate the gain in performance as you eliminate even a few feet. It's extremely restrictive, even when straight! Plus, hard piping, at least to those gates, might allow you to open and close them one handed. Great video, thanks for sharing!

Thanks! Stay tuned! I have some ideas to make things even better! I do like your idea even make my drops solid pipe.

To make it easier to clean the filter, leave it in place with the 5-gallon bucket installed, and use the same 65 psi air (blowing from the outside) to loosen all the dust and have it drop into the 5-gallon bucket. Wait a few minutes to remove the bucket to dump it, else you will have a dust-cloud released in the shop. MUCH easier (and cleaner) than the way you were doing it....

Use a leaf blower to clean the filter takes a bit still but works great

Taytools have some 5" metal blast gates that work great. You put the pvc tube in them, and it improve your airflow for not much of a cost

Thanks for the tip! I'll look it up! The plastic gates are for sure lacking and I have tossed around the idea of building my own wooden ones too.

Why don’t you get a wireless remote switch. I have the remote clipped to my shop apron so it’s always with me.

I watned to, but I need to get one for a 20 amp. I have not found it's that big of a deal. I do think I may install a 3 or 4 way switch system around the shop.

I’m in the process of deciding on dust collection upgrade from shop vacs to this very similar setup. Issue I am having is deciding how to get it around the shop where I need it. your ductwork is pretty extensive so it gives me some good ideas. Thanks. Notice you have tubing on the ground going to the table saw and other places. If I go this direction I will have to do the same. Have you had any issues with it being a trip hazard or it just feeling cluttered? Thanks for the videos

I honestly haven't noticed it as a huge deal. Biggest problem for me is vacuuming around it. As expected, the one on the ground for the Table Saw is always connected, so I made my "Working Area" on the other side of the table. The other one on the floor is for the router table, and that is only connected when using the router. Not sure there is another option, especially for the table saw. With the router, I also tried without the underneath dust collection, and man, the mess it did make. Necessary evil in someways. But you learn to work around it.

Pro tech gates are way better & cheaper, plus your flex pipe will run cleaner pulled out straight length( less ribs to restrick). Sorry you have already got your pvc pipe runs, but sewer pipe 4"is cheaper and smooth inside, elbows 90 really slow the air, two 45 degree elbow give the same 90, alot smoother flow. With the great suction you have over head drops, it would work a lot better & get the hoses off the floor. Great job on all I've seen.

Thanks for doing this video. It's really helpful. I'd be curious to see you do a test on the performance difference between using a 90 degree vs two 45's. Do you think it really matters?

Why not use a simple remote control that you carry with you when you are in the shop. Switch problem solved

I have a remote power plug 20 amp remote plug, plug your dust collector into it with the remote on a string hanging around your neck.
