TESTIMONIALS
‘Started hitting the moves laid out in these courses the very next class...extremely uplifting to have such a quick improvement in my game’ - Houston, TX
‘I’m the only white belt in the academy doing these moves…I’m suddenly competing at a blue belt and above level…thanks Coach Tom’ - LA, California
‘Some of the best strategies you are going to see for control and submission’ - London, UK
‘The detailed way Prof Tom breaks down his moves into the absolute essentials is just next level for me. This is absolute gold‘ - Sydney, Australia
‘Most of the guys at my Academy, have about 60lbs on me, but since purchasing your ‘Kimura Attack system’ and ’14 days’ everything has changed. I feel much more confident, roll better and the guys on the mat have commented on the same. Thanks, Coach Tom’ - Dallas, TX
‘I know you have your names for your courses, but I’ve renamed them the ‘Zero to hero’ courses, I went from getting constantly owned, to now being completely dominant on the mat in no time at all’ - San Diego, California
‘I use the course material heaps, and just recently put it into action at a local comp, walked away with double gold. No one was more surprised than me! - Miami, Florida
‘As a new white belt, these classes have helped me so much, Prof Tom’s technique, the details, and his attitude. I love how Prof. Tom shows the ‘mistakes people make’ and then shows the correct way of doing things. The only one I have ever seen do this’ - New York, New York
Great videos, great instruction. I just watch them for hours…Melbourne, Australia
‘The instructional saved me big time at a recent comp, my opponent was def more experienced, but that was ok, coz I had Prof Tom’s video in my brain. Nailed it and scored gold’ - Colorado, Denver
‘All of it. Everything you show in your awesome videos are now my ‘go to techniques’. Thanks for your vids Prof, Tom’ - Houston, TX
‘You really have to watch every second of the video because Prof, Tom drops these little nuggets of gold throughout the course. And they make ALL the difference. The only one doing this. Keep them coming Professor’ - NY, New York
‘If I could only be taught from one person, Prof Tom would be it. I can’t wait to train in person one day’ - Dallas, TX
‘Went to a recent competition with these videos fresh in my mind. I knew I had an edge and the confidence this gave me was unreal. Got the gold. All submission wins! - LA, California

I started BJJ a year ago this month. When I began I was around 310 lbs (about 140 kilos) and as of this week I'm down to about 190 lbs (86 kilos). Not only did BJJ change my life, I truly believe it saved mine. Starting to train BJJ was the best decision I've ever made.

I'm a 53 year old who suffers from PTSD as a result of 25 years of policing and seeing the worst that some humans have to offer. As part of my PTSD anger and rage became a problem both at home and on the street. Since I joined my local BJJ club couple of months ago, I have noticed an enormous positive change. I'm no longer that angry guy. I leave all that negative energy on the mat and come out of the academy calm and humbled. So when Coach Tom says Jiu-Jitsu will change your life, believe it. It's changed mine.

I recently started my BJJ journey. I injured my shoulder a month in and I absolutely cannot get back on the mat fast enough. I came to my school when I recognized I was suicidal. I was in so much pain that I didn't want to be in this world anymore even though I didn't want to die, I just wanted the hurting to stop. I reached out to Jiu-Jitsu to pull myself out of the dark. I still struggle with those thoughts, but never when I'm in my school or on the mat

I respectfully disagree that you should do Jiu-Jitsu to build confidence. I personally and specifically trained Jiu-Jitsu to build confidence because I followed advice like this because I thought if I just showed up and was consistent I would develop authentic confidence and belief in myself when it comes to being able to defend myself. The main motivation to train was that I didn't have the confidence to stand up for myself and assert myself and got bullied. The reality was that for 2 years I trained as hard as I could and mostly just got my ass kicked and my main strength was getting injured and I got nicknamed Mr. Glass by a couple of the fighters at the gym. I might also end up having to get neck surgery because of herniated discs in my neck from Jiu-Jitsu. I stumbled my way to a blue belt but felt even less confident than when I entered the gym because instead of being humbled by the reality of not being able to defend myself and then overcoming that and being able to defend myself. I just got stuck in the phase of I don't know how to confidently defend myself because of my spine injuries. I learned the lesson that some people like myself are just injury-prone and have bad spine genetics, and if you have bad spine genetics the LAST thing you should do is grappling. The reason is is that although jiu-jitsu is a very effective martial art, it won't be for you because you won't be able to train enough to become effective at it. Moreover, some people are naturally very untalented at grappling and injury-prone and if you put a lot of effort into something and months and years go by and you still suck at it and are getting tapped out by everybody it's going to make you bitter, resentful, and less confident. I don't think you can understand that perspective because when you did jiu-jitsu you saw progress and didn't get injured and ridiculed. The better advice and more honest advice would be "hey try jiu-jitsu and if you see progress and feel more confident then stick with it." "If not you should quit sooner rather than later and find a different martial art that is effective for self-defense and that you see progress in that makes you more confident." If you have the money you should take private one on one lessons with a black belt that way you won't into injury-riddled deathmatches with white belts who have a fragile ego. I personally found boxing to be the most effective and least damaging on my spine compared to the other more effective martial arts like Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo, and Kickboxing. Just wanted to share that because I don't think a lot of people share that perspective and I want to make others feel less alone if they experienced something similar.

If you made it to blue belt, then your coach sees your progress and you should have the skills to defend yourself. Did you ever do any mobility work outside of class? What does your coach say about these doubts that you are not progressing?

I started jui jitsu this year in my first year of college. It has helped me gain confidence and helped me defend myself in a few real life instances. My stresses and anxiety leaves me after I get back from training every single time. It has changed my life

I started bjj in 2019 an overweight, unconfident, 6"6', 30 year old reclusive after the loss of two of friends one though drug use one though suicide, I was super depressed. Now I'm 32 I'm no longer overweight, I've grown in confidence, I'm still 6'6", granted I only leave my house to go to bjj but better than being a recluse who only socialised when playing duos on warzone. 🤙🏾

I’m 30 and I was in a very dark place, Bjj pulled me out of it after just a few sessions my entire perspective changed. You learn a lot about yourself. Also your ego will receive a massive check. When you can’t get a one year white belt that weighs 50lbs less than you off of you no matter how hard you try you’ll be humbled lol

Very nice video! Thanks Tom, for sharing all these thoughts with us, I have been doing bjj for 4 months now, it's just fascinating how it reflects on each and every areas of life, not accepting being average just like we do in jiu jitsu, not giving up easily but also getting let go of the ego, being a better problem solver and ripping the entitled thoughts from mind

I'm 21 years old and was struggling horribly with addiction of various substances, Jiu-jitsu taught me that I'm actually WORTH something for once. I've now been clean for about 5-ish months.

I am not sure my coach will be staying or leaving. We were supposed to train for MMA but when i was introduced to the mat the first, I loved it and even offered nyself for dummy. I was looking for a way to train and educate myself - BJJ.

Good talk, Tom. You are a wise man. I couldn't agree more and I'm very thankful for having BJJ in my life. It's helped me deal with some things in a positive way that I would not have otherwise to say the least. If only I had seen the light earlier on in my life!

I’m thinking about trying it again, I can honestly say I don’t think I’m humble enough for BJJ. I trained boxing for a while before the gym shut down and I was fairly natural at it and pretty good from the start so I enjoyed it. I have zero natural grappling ability whatsoever and don’t like doing things I’m bad at. I hate getting beat up and I’m a slow learner. I would leave there angry and feeling like shit about myself. But I was also 190 pounds when I first tried it and I’m down to 163 so maybe I’ll enjoy it more if I’m in better shape.
