Sounds like it has the opposite problem Bleach did. For the majority of it's run, Kubo just *would not* kill any of the good guys, even when if killing them off would have been better for the story; Byakuya in TYBW being the quintessential example. JJK sounds like it has the opposite problem - the author is way too eager to kill members of his cast when he'd be better served not doing so carelessly.

For me JJK just became the new Walking Dead. Characters die for shock value alone and I just can't get invested into any of them anymore.

My biggest issue with JJk in all honesty is just that it kills too many characters too often without exploring their full potential. Nobara, Nanami, ect. So many characters that have a lot of potential but are just killed off seemingly on a whim. I don't even mind the occasional character death here and there, heck i'm a jojo fan but I feel like characters like Nobara should have at least been killed closer to the end of the story rather then mid way through.

Through out the story continuously stated that Gojo is unparalleled to any jujutsu sorcerer he can do things any other sorcerer can't even imagine to do but after his death, suddenly everybody else can do that one thing Gojo couldn't do so easily.

So right now, the series is basically called "sukuna kaisen" with the main character being sukuna, the fandom basically became 'rent a girlfriend' because were here for the climax and nothing more, every character that joined the final fight ends up becoming useless as the 'Naruto sidecast' Sukuna has the plot armor of every isekai protagonist, and gege takes breaks worth 5 DBZ minutes. Great, oh yeah, and every character with any sorta potential just gets killed off, like the lobotomy kaisen fandom's braincells 💀 💀 💀 Gego somehow combined all the worst aspects of every series he could find, and put it into a blender with just jjk characters.

The Shibuya Arc was the beginning of the end. The introduction of Kenjaku was a huge mistake. It should've just been Geto revived through some kind of curse thing, possibly Mahito using his technique. Gege properly introduced us to the Geto and his motivations in the Hidden Inventory Arc. It turned him from the mostly one-note villain we see in JJK0 to someone a lot more sympathetic and interesting. His relationship with his "family" mattered a lot more to me after that. The Shibuya Arc ruins it all entirely. You should've seen that the story would end up this way back then.

Im going to be honest, its always been mid. Gege has clearly forgotten most of the plot threads as well as the potential setups for plot threads long ago. The motivations and ideals he gives his characters are flimsy at best, he often writes important details about the plot into characters MANY MANY chapters after their introduction, and often doesnt elaborate on them for the audience. He often forgets certain characters exist, and often shafts them. He doesnt write characters well enough for us to even know them, and rarely ever shows nuance in their personalities. Plot is paced like shit and the story is 75% fight scenes, most of which with characters no one cares about. The convoluted and poorly explained power system. And of course the constant, unnecessary, and unsatisfying killing of important characters, most notably nobara whom gege shafted for the entirety of shibuya only for her to show up, give a mediocre show, and get one tapped. I just... i like this show i promise i do but i really really have problems with it. way too many. its just so bad. I liked everything in season 1 but all of shibuya was just dragged on way too long, painfully mid. aaaaaahhh

I think things like Black Flash kind of contribute to the annoyance that some feel towards the recent events in jjk. Unlike cursed techniques or abilities that have been, or at least can be explained, black flash has always felt like sort of a gimmick. It's just something that doesn't have any hard rules to it like almost everything else in the series does so it ends up feeling more like a plot device to produce whatever outcome Gege wants rather than an explainable or sensible occurence. Black Flash is starting to feel like the JJK equivalent of "the power of friendship" or whatever other plot induced power-up characters get in series with less flexible power systems and/or worse writing. It feels a bit out of its element in a series like JJK.

In my opinion the biggest flaw in JJK is the lack of reinforcing the world building. We hear it numerous times that Sukuna is the strongest because of X but they never directly show it. Also the lack of international sorcerers and the latest chapters confirming that its basically japanese centrict again ruins the suspension of disbelief with the plot.

i think the biggest issue is burnout it reminds me of how araki had to switch from weekly to monthly for part 7 because he was burnt out and the quality had started to go down, and since moving to ultra jump monthly releases his work has only gotten better. i hope more manga/animation studios start realizing this but it's honestly just part of the wider social issues that japan struggles with so idk if its gonna happen any time soon

Gojo’s death was predictable. The real problem is that his death was meaningless. It didn’t serve anything apart from saying to the readers that Sukuna is a poor baby who doesn’t know what love is and stating that Gojo was not as strong as we thought. All of this has just shown how miserable Gojo’s life was. The guy was not able to protect the girl he was asked to, he could save his best friend and ended up killing him, he couldn’t protect his students or live up to their expectations, he was not even able to save the one student he has the strongest bond with (Megumi I mean) and at the end of his life, he was told (by Nanami) he was an insensitive and egotistical jerk and that everyone knew about that. With all the strength and power he was born with, the guy never managed to do anything useful in his life when he really needed to. Gege really did his best to make his life as pathetic as possible. Muh original body. Higurama uses his CT on you? Muh cursed tool substitution no jutsu. Yuta got all Sukuna's limbs damaged and restrained, and both of his mouth are damaged as well so no more space cleave? Doesn't matter here's muh space cleave. Maki stabbed Sukuna's heart? Muh curse CPR. Oh and BLACK FLASH. This manga is turning into a big comedy and I'm all for it.

The Major problem I have for JJK is that Gege seems borderline too fixated on the grounded reality aspect he’s CONSTANTLY pushing, he forgets the immediate thing that made JJK so popular; it’s a shonen style anime with fun and relatable characters, then he threw that alongside the storytelling, world building and character development all for chasing that one aspect that he doesn’t seem to realise he’s already made very much clear.

I would say my problem with JJK is that it changed from a character focused story to a plot focus story, in which the main goal was to get the plot moving along without giving the characters time to breath. I don’t think the story is bad but the pacing gets in my nerves sometimes especially with 208, 215(when the bath which was hyped up for a while was completed in a couple panels), and 222(one month time skip) 222especially grinds my gears because everything before would of been fine because the characters would finally have creating room for interactions but it was just skipped. Tbh I liked the writing in 236 and thought it was set up well when binging the fight. though I think it was a bit abrupt but it made sense so I didn’t really have a problem with it. The main problem is that we are in the last stretch of the series without much build up that could of been explored and perfected if we got to actually see the one month time skip

Sukuna is also a poor antagonist, he is just isn’t a relatable character to the readers. He doesn’t have any ambitions, doesn’t have convincing motivations, doesn’t even have those crazy ideologies like a normal villain does. He is just fighting for the sake of fighting. I feel most fans only like him is only because Gege let sukuna pulled a lot of badass moments but that’s it. Kenjaku just had so much more potential as an antagonist of the story

i think the second Gege started coming up with bs reasons for Sukuna to win every fight is when jjk kind of died. Like the fight with Gojo was pretty understandable, but Sukuna wasn't even in his Heian Era form yet so he was significantly less powerful, yet tanked a 200% purple, and so many other moves from Gojo that should have SEVERELY if not out right killed him in that form. Not to mention the plot holes and plots that have been left completely behind, like the Merger plot, the whole reason Sukuna is even fighting the sorcerers, and Hakari being almost as powerful as Gojo. Also, remember when Maki stabbed Sukuna straight through the HEART and bro had to use cursed energy to keep it beating? what happened to that? It said he was unable to use rct to heal it due his fight with Gojo, so it would have to heal "naturally" which i find extremely hard to believe that he healed a split heart that fast. hopefully Gege taking 21 days off can rebreathe life into the series.

So explaining the afterthought Binding vow: Under normal circumstances, chants and hand signs are required but Sukuna couldn't do them because Gojo blew one of his hands off. So apparently he made an instant decision to make a Binding vow that made it so that he was able to use it without chants or hand signs ONCE. The condition was that from every use after, the slash has to be directed by his palm (effectively adding an extra movement and telegraphing the slash to others). It is a really shitty patchwork solution that ends up creating even more problems like "Why the fuck didn't Gojo make Binding Vows for the single most important fight? Or anyone else really.". This is a very common theme with Sukuna where he isn't even strong but the main cast just doesn't even utilize their power set at a basic level. Another example is "Why does Sukuna use Megumi's abilities WAY better than him?". This seems stupid given that he is on a different league than Megumi but are you saying in Shibuya instead of summoning Round Deer to heal, he just summoned Mahoraga straight up? "Oh he hadn't tamed the deer" why? How is taming the fucking deer harder than Nue or Orochi? Like half the Ten Shadows have been utilized by Sukuna rather than Potential man.

I can see the Sukuna Cycle being a whole lot better in the anime adaptation and people likely won't mind it then, becuase it'll be a really fast-paced battle between different challengers jumping in to defeat Sukuna.

So you're gonna sit there, and tell me that the Sukuna who: - Planned beforehand to keep Megumi alive specifically to beat Gojo - Stole Megimi's technique and have a way to counter the Gojo - Gambled on Megumi's technique's method of bypass being able to be replicated - Had to steal Megumi's technique in the first place, and force Gojo to hold back to prevent Person B's technique negating Gojo, and Gojo still gets rid of 10s Mahoraga And then state say that Sukuna could have done it alone? After he specially planned and kept Megumi alive? What kind of storytelling is that? You're gonna show me that Person A was helpless throughout the fight, and literally had an offscreen asspull, and then tell me "he could have done it alone" when the whole fight was based on small chances and had an extreme amount of luck. All that does is tell the readers that Sukuna would have outright lost if he didnt have Mahoraga.

Thats why i always say people expecially those disrespectful New Gen Fans need to put some respect on tbe likes of Dragonball, Naruto or even One Piece. I don't particularly find an issue with Gojo praising Sukuna as much as he did, even saying he would have still lost if Sukuna didn't have the shikigami. Considering Sukuna killed Gojo, all through careful planning that developed over the course of the entire series, it wouldn't be at all surprising if Sukuna had more up his sleeve. Especially considering all the wild stuff he does after Sukuna returns to his Heian form, I don't doubt Gojo when he says something like that.

Lets not forget other characters forgotten like TODO who by the freaking way said " I cant tell him that yet" meaning Yuji and what he wanted to say we still dont freaking know to this day and its annoying that we havent seen or even got a mention of Todo.

I've never liked JJK. After reading like 50 chapters it just felt so fucking stuck. Nothing actually progressed, it was just 1 fight after another. It would be like if dragonball characters went through all the arcs, except they never aged inbetween. Reminds me of bakuman where that one girl creates a manga that starts out really cool and then it falls off cause its just constant fights without purpose.

Personally, I don't think JJK has gotten worse per say, but I undoubtedly believe it has changed, A LOT. Some things I find kinda interesting. Gege is taking this in a very unexpected direction. While readers probably don't want copy/paste stories, they still like being able to predict what will happen next or at least have the story move in a sensical direction based on their past experience with other manga or even jjk itself. Of course though, that has not been the case since the Culling Games. I'll admit, JJK has gotten HELLA memeable recently, for better or for worse, but I honestly don't mind. Each chapter is still just as interesting to me. Or maybe the story really has gotten worse, but I just never really noticed it because my interest for JJK hasn't waned at all. Hear me out though with this one: I think we might be projecting a bit. Not ourselves literally, but what we all want for the characters. After all, that's why all of these characters death took so many people by surprise and annoyed them. Most people, including myself, did not expect many of these deaths. It didn't make sense at first. Obviously, Gege has provided at least some reasoning behind them now, but it doesn't align with what most people predicted. This is why I don't really bother with theorizing much for JJK. I theorize plenty for other manga like One Piece or Black Clover, but JJK plot is moving in strange directions, and I just read it in the heat of the moment. I don't bother with thinking about what will happen next, but I still retain that excitement for the next chapter, minus the theorizing. For all I know, Sukuna's fuga attack will blow up Yuji. As long as JJK keeps me hooked each chapter, I will continue reading it. Maybe JJK actually has gotten worse, but right now I don't know nor do I care cause it DEFINITELY has not gotten boring. I'm hoping Sukuna's fuga attack doesn't burn everyone to a crisp, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Ok, I understand the series isn't for everyone, but some of your points dont really work 1. Kusukabe never dodged WCS. The only person who has dodged it is Maki, which is understandable 2. The reason people dont use binding vows to instawin fights is because they are permanent and can't guarantee victories. If Gojo were to use a binding vow to insta fire purple, he would have to use hand signs forever more, which would just be a stupid risk that might not work. The reason sukuna did it is because WCS is a new powerful, technique. He doesn't care if he needs to add more handsigns/incantations, because he probably didn't see himself NEEDING to use that technique again. 3. We are in the middle of the big sukuna fight, just let him cook, especially after the last 2 chapters. Also there are amazing scenes in these chapters. I really just think you need to let the story finish before all this critism. I just feel like the people making these vids are gonna switch up when it ends up having a good ending

I'm not gonna take a review under deep consideration if I hear someone couple their subjective view with a statement that says "I don't think I need to spend anymore time proving that" and "although we've established our evidence for jujutsu kaisen's declining quality" (referring to your opinion on the series and why you think it's bad). To be a little more critical of some of your points though: Although Gojo isn't the type to praise characters for their strength, he also isn't the type to...die from battle. I'm sure his loss changed his view on Sukuna and his strength. Let's also consider that the airport scene are hallucinations of Gojo and his friends before his death, not an actual event. So to say he has choices over what he discusses with his friends is taking the scene highly out of context. There's numerous times where a technique's basics are explained, and then their details are hashed out later in the series. If you're not a fan of that, that's completely fine again that's your opinion, but you can't use that as a reason the series fell off when they've been doing that for a while now. With your point on the world slash, you're assuming Gojo wasn't able to dodge it. We know he has a reaction to the world slash via Gege's recent artwork depicting the cut out scene, so it's possible that Gojo assumed his limitless would keep him safe. It's also very possible that it was a completely different world slash than what other characters have been dealing with, which very well could be the case since the world slash used to kill Gojo was the improved version via the binding vow that Sukuna used to reduce the hand signs and incantations to hide it. We just don't know for sure quite yet. Kusakabe never dodged the world slash, he mentioned it was coming and then expanded his simple domain's range to interrupt Sukuna's chants/incantations. The panel from 254 you bring up isn't the actual binding vow, it's simply stating the conditions of the world slash currently. The next page is when the binding vow for the world slash is revealed. Sukuna didn't necessarily need incantations/handsigns for the world slash...that is at full power. But we know Sukuna's so damaged that he requires these things to increase his output (which Gojo did earlier in the fight numerous times). This very specific circumstance doesn't necessarily bring into question binding vows in other fights though. Gojo, Mahito, Jogo and Yuki all under circumstances in which this binding vow would not have put them ahead in their fight. Gojo would now be required to use handsigns/incantations against Sukuna + his shikigami, Mahito would be forced to use handsigns/incantations against Yuji after putting down Todo, and Jogo's maximum meteor could only "damage" 15F Sukuna not kill, so these binding vow wouldn't help. Plus take into consideration Jogo is someone who fights very straightforward, and isn't as tactical as other curses. In the case of Yuki, she needed to power up star rage so that binding vow is useless there as well. Miwa's binding vow included her present and her future strength into one swing, in exchange for never swinging a katana again, definitely not the same effect as Sukuna's. What advantages has Sukuna gotten "for the sake of the plot?" And how is that a bad thing if so? Gojo's birth literally changed the world of jujutsu, and before Sukuna's return was the pinnacle of strength, forcing kenjaku + the disaster curses to seal him rather them fight him. Would that not be an example of Gojo's advantages forcing the progression of plot? Just to play devil's advocate with another strong character. Genuine question, what pose on chapter 253 page 8 is repetitive? The pose Sukuna hit against Yuta and Yuji seemed to be a callback to the anime Sukuna vs Mahoraga fight, but liking that is a matter of personal opinion so do what you will. Although Gege's not a fan of the weekly cycle, that's probably why he's been taking numerous breaks after Gojo vs Sukuna ended. All things considered, I respect your opinion and some of your points I even align myself with. I just take issue with using your personal opinions to state objectively how a series is declining.

Sometimes, I wonder if Gege saw all of the impactful deaths in Hunter X Hunter, and just assumed that killing off random characters that people are just starting to get attached to that could also potentially reveal more about your story is peak fiction, which it isn't you're just creating multiple wastes.

Nah this was screwed far earlier when it kept repeating itself. This just sounds like a lot of fan boys woke up to the lazy writing once their fav character died.

My problem with jjk isn’t the story. It’s just the fans. The fans are arguably worse than the my hero fans which is astonishing to me. All they ever talk about is leaks and spoilers. They all make the same jokes which devolve to nanami’s abs, how cracked or hot Gojo is, or people just putting in comment sections domain expansions thinking they cooked. I’m convinced jjk fans are either down bad no life’s or people who still bring up the but can he beat goku thing in 2024 unironically and are posting deep edits of cod scenes. Genuinely the anime is so unlikable because of the fans and I get that sometimes you have to ignore a fan base, but this was just too much for me

Too many people let the anime and manga industry (mostly shounen) go along with the truism that "major character death means good and deep writing NO MATTER WHAT" for so long, and I feel like this is the inevitable result. There seems to have been a big push for writers to include this element of earth-shattering tragedy that touches most of us in real life without demonstrating understanding of why losing an important and cherished person hits differently than reading about loss of life in the news. Death happens constantly. We have to MAKE it matter. (Great video, by the way. I got suspicious that we were heading this way after Toji's brief "comeback" in the Shibuya arc. It felt like the worst example -- YET -- of potential just thrown in the trash.)

Heavenly restrictions and binding vows become such an asspull in this show. They either do absolutely nothing or they can make you the strongest character in the show instantly. Imagine being born with a heavenly restriction that crushes your balls every day and then losing to a dude who was just born naturally gifted. Then someone else get's your exact buff from not drinking milk that day.

The binding vow thing can be explain by Sukuna's personality. Sukuna has no attachments. He does what ever he wants. Most characters won't want to permanently weaken their technique for one battle. Not Sukuna. He is petty enough to give up everything just for one fight.

When Gege said killing off characters makes the story more interesting, I think what he doesn't realise is that while it might always be more interesting for the writer (having to plan around a characters death), it isn't always more interesting for the reader. For the writer they go "oh boy how am I going to move the story forward now" and it's an interesting challenge.
