I can definitely say that west coast hip hop has not resurrected. If anything, we have regressed back to being stagnant to the same era before Kendrick, the Top Dawg label , YG, and Nipsey came along. Certain artists you’ve mentioned haven’t broke out outside of the west. Ever since Roddy cooled down, we’ve been down on our ass as a coast ever since. Who knows if its gonna get better.. but i hope it does.

LA hasn't come back, the West Coast scene hasn't had the crown in nearly 30 years. They currently have some superstars, but all regions have that.

Besides Drake who only half counts anyway, Kendrick was the biggest star in rap for a long time. The south had more national artists than the west, but the biggest star has been Kendrick. Part of it is also because like Texas, you can be rich & successful without expanding out of California. but we also are sort of beyond the days of one region having the ball in their court, at least until regionality in music comes back.

@@bootneyleefarnsworth7307 you're right allow me to rephrase. until the significance of region-ality (not a word but you get me) hopefully returns. I cant verify if future "sells" more than Kendrick because nobody sells records anymore. they try to pretend like streams & sales can equate in away (because it helps them fuck the artists when they have no clue what they're worth to the industry) but they cant. so that could be true, but dont really matter. Kendrick Lamar was the highest profile rapper (active/from his era) for a long time. business aside Everton free everyone gladly treated him as the one & positioned him as the "savior to Hiphop". the arguement against that could be that some people feel he doesnt represent the WC the way someone like Snoop did, but people like Snoop feel like he does so 🤷‍♂️.

He's allowed a lot of privileges that the rest dont get because he can sustain his relevance without being a rapper at all. If Usher drops a rap album tomorrow no matter how good it is or isnt we're not gonna call him the biggest rapper right? even though he would be the biggest star, who happens to be rappin.

Hottest new rapper is Big Sad 1900. Only versatile rapper dat can fw dwn south, midwest n eastcoast rappers bar, flow n delivery wise. Beat selection, quotable bars, and cadence all A1. Everyone else needs to take notes frm Big Sad. Use BETTER BEATS n cater to more than just LA crowd. My favs in LA rn are G Perico, 2Eleven, Frosty, Rucci, BSG. I also fw TF for taking lyrical route so salute him for being different.

Chicago and Detroit disagree with you putting the east coast over them. Especially when NY tried to copy of Chicago. If that's YOUR personal preference cool. But it would be 1) south 2) Midwest 3) west 4) east coast. Only thing that can be debated is #3/#4.

Midwest rap is defined by chopper fast paced rappers like Twista, Tech N9ne, Eminem, Esham, Bone Thugs etc and nowadays the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Michigan sounds are distinct and are sub genres in their own rights

The issue is west coast can boom but it’s just too much influence from gang politics because how restrictive they can be, I think many artist really can blow up more from west coast but for example try explaining to the rest of the country what significance do Jay hats and stl caps have , I believe asm and treyway too have such unique cali flow kinda how Detroit has there own unique flow people like, but they music is just politic for someone from elsewhere to bump or understand

What do you mean by gang politics! The gang scene is the worst right now in the west coast at of All regions of the rap community!! The Midwest (Chicago, Detroit) has a huge gang scene plus less strict gun laws compared to commieforina!! The East coast is just aggressive and most of the drill scene has moved down towards the south because of how strict the gun laws are in NYC!! The south will always dominate rap because is perfect for the gang/street scene!! No gun laws!! None of the hippie white liberal shit!! And they keep it real in the south

I've never listened to a NY rapper and thought of the south, what are u talking bout. Their energy and style is completely different. If your talking about beats and stuff NYC is the only city that beat selection changes alot because in NYC everyone from everywhere lives there. That's why they was on UK drill super early. Places like Chicago where I'm from we all sound the same because everyone from here lived here they whole life. My uncle and stuff from the Bronx and everyone there is from everywhere... FL, LA, ATL so all those sounds go there too
