As a guitarist myself when I see, Jimmy page, he just amazed me over and over again because to me,he was a complete riff, master! He had such creativity, writing songs, and making killer riffs. It’s just incredible.

LZ never used a tour bus. They had their own plane. They'd stay in one place and fly back and forth to their gigs. They were the biggest band in the world during the 70s. Did they have lots of groupies? YES!!!!!!

Nah … Zeppelin ate salad with mineral water on the side and did yoga between gigs. A very quiet life off-stage. Role models really … hotel staff admired them for their composure, cleanliness, and punctuality. Perfect gentlemen. Cheers 🍺

Bonham is pretty prominent in most Zeppelin songs, one is Achilles Last Stand, or his 20 minute solo called Moby Dick, from this concert at Earls Court (1975). It’s the one with better shots of him playing, he did that solo over 200 times, at some point in a 3 to 4 hour nonstop concert. YES! He was & still is the greatest drummer, just wish he was still alive. The greatest band ever, split up, knowing they couldn’t go on without their friend & greatest drummer.

Drumming? Watch either Achilles Last Stand or Kashmir from Knebworth 1979 or Trampled Under Foot from. Earls Court 1975 ( same concert as this song….incredible series of five nights in London…all sold out shows.)

@@rawprawn8198 it IS good! And it’s my favorite Zep song! However, he’s talking about examples of great drumming technique, and Levee is an example of great drum SOUND produced by the placement of the drums and the mic placements. A great example of sound engineering and mixing but not of prowess on drum technique. I think my suggestions show off Bonham’s mastery of his instrument in a live setting.

I saw Robert Plant and Alison Krauss two weeks ago. He can still sing and he is 72 years old. It was a great show.

Each of these geniuses are the GOATS of their crafts, & together the GODS of MUSIC! Yes quite a bit of Page’s playing was improv, as are often some of Plants vocals, especially towards the end, with the You Shook Me, which is one of their songs. Plant & Page, would try & draw out the best in each other. These guys played like four parts of one being, if one improvised, the others flowed like it was their idea.two other great lives, Madison Square Gardens (1973), Since I’ve Been Loving You. Dazed & Confused May 24,1975 Earls court, the like 35 minute version, Page plays his guitar with a violin bow. Every time they played a song live, they are never the same, a basic structure with improvs. Thank you for your reaction, please do many more Zeppelin songs.

One of the amazing things about this video, aside from the astounding performance, is the crowd noise. During Plant's vocal solos the crowd is dead silent: no whistles, no random shouts, nothing. Then when the song finishes there is an explosion of applause. I don't know if the audio was manipulated, but I don't see the point if it was. Phenomenal performance regardless.

Bonham's gallop on Achilles Last Stand is unparalleled. He also lays down some thunderous fills during the guitar solo of Stairway to Heaven in this same concert (Earls Court). Also, their concert at Royal Albert Hall 1/9/70, you should definitely listen to "How Many More Times."

Robert & John Paul Jones were relatively straight - there was drinking, some smoke and the occasional coke, but not in excess. In their later years together Bonzo’s drinking became excessive and Jimmy had an affair with heroin in the late 70’s.

A lot of older people didn't care for long hair or the music back then. Which made it even better. Zep was world famous but they kept a low profile when they saw that the press was clueless.

Many of their really great songs weren’t on the radio, or rarely were. If you weren’t lucky enough to see them in concert, the only live thing was their movie, The Song Remains The Same in theaters. I sadly wasn’t lucky enough, to young & no transportation. Seeing these live performances on KZfaq, are the next best thing, & thankfully they are pretty much great quality. Anything live from MSG (1973) is excellent, the movie was made from those 3 concerts.

Post war, beginnings of Rock and Roll, then the 60’s with The Who and The Rolling Stones and Cream, and then the late 60’s and 70’s with Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. So my parents were Rock and Roll fans, and didn’t really have any objects to my choices in music. I would suggest Good Times Bad Times and Dazed and Confused from the first album, Four Sticks from the forth album, The Wanton Song on the Physical Graffiti album, and just about anything on the Presence album. If you’re interested in. Bonzo’s drumming. These are random choices, there are a lot of songs he is prominent on.

They did 3 to 3.5 hour concerts! But yes, def some drugs. Especially Jimmy Page I think, but Lordy, what music!

Page was the only one who did heroin. The others, not such hard drugs, and Page didn't take drugs from the beginning. I think by the time he was wearing the suit decorated with poppies, he was probably starting on heroin. Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones also took heroin. In his autobiography, Keith said he took it to keep up with the demands of the lifestyle and the requirements of the performances. However lesser drugs (dope and alcohol) would also enable LZ to relax after 3-4 hour performances where it was hard to come down from such an extended adrenaline high. I remember seeing a video of a woman who barely escaped the 9/11 destruction of the World Trade Centre and she said she was on adrenaline for days and could not come down off it until she got medicinal intervention after seeing a doctor. Adrenaline like that can be life threatening if it does not stop. I don't think they took drugs to enhance their performance. That would rather have impaired their performance.

PS, something that Bonham did that was unique to rock was he played along with the lead guitar and less with the rhythm. There's a video here on KZfaq that breaks down his style and what made him so great.

FYI the 1975 concert is very bad quality sound wise compared to their other concerts. From what I gathered, it was recorded onto vhs tape so that would explain the terrible audio. The 1970 at Royal Albert hall is my favorite, but MSG 73 is probably their best (on film) they have some other live recordings audio only that are great. Paris Theater 71 is amazing as well. Look forward to more.

From what I've heard, this would be about the time that at least some Zeppelin members started using heroin. Jimmy in particular had a big heroin problem for years. Cocaine and other drugs I'm sure were just "refreshments".
