Disclaimer- This video is to give the viewer an idea of how much time it takes typically in our hospital. It can be different in different hospitals … I hope you enjoy the video and also get a some idea about the time taken for a total hip replacement surgery
A hip operation, from the time a patient leaves their room until they return, typically lasts around 4 to 5 hours. The process involves several stages, each crucial for the patient's safety and successful surgery.
Firstly, the medical staff verifies the patient's details and medical history, ensuring all necessary pre-operative tests are completed. Once cleared, the patient is transferred to the operating theatre (OT), a sterile environment where the surgery will take place.
In the OT, the anesthesia team prepares the patient for surgery, administering the necessary medications and monitoring vital signs throughout the procedure. Anesthesia ensures the patient is unconscious and pain-free during the operation.
The surgery itself lasts approximately 1 hour, during which the orthopedic surgeon performs the necessary steps to repair or replace the hip joint. This involves making precise incisions, removing damaged bone and cartilage, and inserting implants if needed.
After the surgery, the surgeon closes the incision, and the wound is cleaned and dressed. The patient is then carefully transferred back to their room for recovery.
It's important to note that the duration of a hip operation can vary depending on the complexity of the case and any unforeseen complications that may arise. However, medical teams are well-trained to handle such situations efficiently, ensuring the best possible outcome for the patient.
