How long does the process of digestion last? Do you find yourself still hungry no matter how much you eat? If so, you might be eating foods that are too high on the glycemic index. It’s definitely something worth knowing if you’re struggling with excess weight.
The glycemic index is a system of values given to foods according to how quickly they cause an increase in blood glucose levels. To put that in layman’s terms, it basically measures how fast different foods are digested by the body. Glucose is a simple sugar that gives your body energy, and you get it from the foods you eat.
Your blood is what carries this sugar throughout your body to all your hungry cells and tissues. That’s why it’s called blood glucose. If you eat something that’s high on the index, your blood glucose will spike, giving you a fast boost of energy.
TIMESTAMPS:
What glycemic index is 0:58
Foods that digest slowly 3:30
Foods that digest moderately 4:08
Foods that digest quickly 4:34
Foods that don’t have a glycemic index value 5:27
What about pizza? 6:09
Are all low-glycemic foods healthy? 6:43
Music by Epidemic Sound www.epidemicsound.com/
SUMMARY:
- The glycemic index is a system of values given to foods according to how quickly they cause an increase in blood glucose levels. To put that in layman’s terms, it basically measures how fast different foods are digested by the body.
- If you eat something that’s high on the index, your blood glucose will spike, giving you a fast boost of energy.
- Foods and drinks are actually split into three groups: low, medium, and high. Low items rate from 1 to 55, medium is from 56 to 69, and high items are from 70 and above.
- According to the experts at Bodytomy, some low-glycemic foods, like cooked vegetables or a salad, can remain in your stomach anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
- There are also foods that really don’t really have a glycemic index value since they don’t contain any carbs. But they can still take a while to be digested by your stomach. It can take you anywhere from 2 to 5 hours for your stomach to digest meats, like chicken, lamb, and pork.
- If you’re having pizza that’s just dough, cheese, and sauce, that might rate high on the glycemic index, mostly because of that dough. But believe it or not, adding toppings actually makes your slice healthier!
- You might encounter foods that will be low on the index, but if they’re processed, they most likely still contain tons of saturated fats, sugar, and empty calories.

@jamescampbell4776
@jamescampbell4776 5 жыл бұрын
@@mrbem1000 No, once you remove the fiber from the fruit, the juice is just quickly absorbed sugar (mostly fructose) that is then processed by the liver, and can cause all sorts of health problems such as non alcoholic fatty liver disease. You are much better off just eating the whole fruit.

@@jamescampbell4776 what about juice that include fibre? As in it blends the whole fruit then drink it like vitamix not pressed juice
@jamescampbell4776
@jamescampbell4776 5 жыл бұрын
@@cassandramak8025 Yes, if the whole fruit is blended then that is much better than pressed or squeezed juice because it retains the fiber. It will absorb slightly more quickly than eating the whole fruit, but only because the blender basically thoroughly pre-chews the fruit for you. As long as you ingest the fiber it will slow down the absorption of the sugar, giving your muscles more time to absorb the glucose, and giving your liver more time to process the fructose.

Must be You don't do anything strenuous.. Your body is not requesting more carbs. It's just burning the one's from Your 1 meal. Try doing a light workout or even better a heavy workout and see how hungry You get.. It wont matter what You eat, It will all digest insanely fast only to request more almost right after the prior meal.

Diabetics are told to save orange juice for times their blood glucose start to drop/ hypoglycemia, and drink it then to get their glucose back into the normal range again. Info. given in video is not accurate for a diabetic to follow. American Diabetes Assoc. or Diabetes.org is the much better source to refer to.

If you are extracting juices from the fruit and leaving the pulp/fiber behind, that juice is high glycemic. If you are blending them together along with the pulp/fiber, that juice can be low to medium glycemic. Bright Side should have pointed this out.

5 months ago I had 207 lbs, prediabetic and IBS, due to uncontrollable diet, processed food, and low glycemic foods and drinks. The fact that I was just about to have diabetes made me think more about what I'm gonna do with my life. Ever since childhood, I was struggling with maintaining a balance, I had periods when I was skinny and not eating almost nothing all day which lead me to gastritis. After I met my boyfriend and being emotionally safe, we start eating only comfort foods, junk foods and so on which lead us to obesity...he also had 381lbs 5 months ago. After researching through diets and healthy lifestyles we give it a try to Ketogenic Diet which was the best decision we made. Now, after 5 months I have 131lbs and no risk to diabetes, IBS is good, either the cholesterol gets lower and my blood test is getting better, my boyfriend also has now 290lbs and he's extremely happy. As you maybe know, the ketogenic diet is high in fats (only the good ones) and medium proteins and only 5% sugar.

bread actually can take up to like 12 hours to digest, that's why the more bread/ white pastas you eat, since your body can't digest it quick enough it stores and builds up in your stomach giving you a bloated looking stomach 😂 You wanna eat more fruits and veggies since those will digest much faster, ranging from 1 hour to 4 hours to completely digest. They got it completely backwards haha. Same with meat. Can take up to 24 hours to digest.

What I think is important in terms of keeping you full is your insulin. Foods that don't spike your insulin levels will make you eat less. Whereas, you have potatoes, they drastically spike your insulin level, thus making you have the urge to eat more, which may result in over-eating.

If you're a nutritionist and recommending only a grain of salt then you are not a very good nutritionist, especially if that grain of salt is your RDA for the average healthy adult! Sodium is a necessary nutrient, but you should already know this.

Question: when low glycemic products sit in digestive system for longer will it require body to produce more acids to dissolve them? Will food sitting for longer time spike insulin production? Please advise

@joyceyou3972

Water needs to be absorbed first, before food gets digested, so we're# advised to drink water at least one- half hour before or after meals. Plenty in between meals, too! I thought I'd never be able to down a meal without liquid, but actually, it didn't take long to be able get along without it.

So I eat heaps and heaps of veggies (no oil) some of the quickest food through the digestion. You can easily trace a meal by using beets and or certain seeds... that way you can see when they come out and time the digestion. I eat one large meal per day and I’m NEVER hungry as I just keep eating in that period until I’m full.
